I think one of the most stunning things I've ever heard.
They have moved beyond the notes, and the technicalities of singing this type of music. They are present, emotionally and physically, and in love with the moment. This is absolutely beautiful.

I've heard many iterations of Chanticleer over the years, and in my opinion, this particular group blends the best of all of thm.
first time i heard this the tears flowed freely. beautiful. notice how relaxed the soloist appears. this is wonderful music. the imagery is incredible.
parker-shaw arr just can't be surpassed. what a dynamic duo. robert shaw was one of the preeminent conductors and choir conductors in u.s. hx. i loved working w/ him, and he was so kind, but tolerated no foolishness.

I had the honor of hearing you gentlemen sing this for an encore in July at the Boothbay Harbor Opera House in Maine. A stunning show, but this has to be one of my favorites.

Everybody writes "l'amour de moi s"y est enclose", but I guess it's really "cy est enclose" (here is enclosed), because "s'y est enclose" doesn't seem to mean much.
I don't know for sure the original text, but your remark is interesting because it needs a discussion: Firstly, "s'y est enclose" is correct French:
there are, in French , verbs that are called "pronominaux", meaning they can be used with a pronoun that causes a reflexive sense, meaning "to (verb) oneself": So, "s'enclore" is old French for "s'enfermer", that is "to shut oneself away". So "s'y est enclose" means "has shut itself away there", "there" being the English translation of "y", which is a reference to the second verse : "Dedans un joli jardinet", meaning "inside a pretty small garden".
So, whether you write "cy" (old French for "ici") or "s'y", you have to refer to the second verse, because both "cy" and "y" have to be located.
The difference is that with "cy", you mean the love {has been enclosed}, and with "s'y" tou mean it {has enclosed itself} : So, both forms have a sense, and I can't sware which one was the original, but it seems that "s'y" is the right one, because the delight expressed by the poem about that garden in which the love is caught shows that this enclosement is fully accepted by the poet, so he has most probably chosen to enclose himself: Then, the right form is "s"y".
Hi Daniel, I'm french and I agree absolutely with you, however, Nestor could be right also, "CY" is a medieval adverb and means "ICI" (here in English) I had the occasion to hear different versions of this song, and of course since so many centuries the original text could have been easily altered, so which is the good one?
The two interpretations are both valid: ( I'm French)
It's more shocking to read: "Quand il est là", instead of:"Quand il est las" :
The adjective "las" means "tired"... When it's tired,the bird "rests"...
The French "las" can be translated with the English "weary". My opinion!

Nice song, but nobody seems understand the the celled sense, its a classic ambigous text where the "rossignolet" is the male sex and the "rose" the female one! But it could be listen how just flowers and bird.

There are cases in which the musical and emotional connection between the members of a choral or musical group make the presence of a director on stage unnecessary, in addition to their capacities. Generally, a director draws a lot of attention to the detriment of what really matters, which is the whole or the musical experience, of course it is also a visual experience in which the attention is focused on the whole and not on a person.
