    The suction cups turn white due to bacteria. The suction cups themselves are made of plastic, which contains plasticizers. These can be digested by bacteria and thus the plastic becomes harder over time. If you put it in hot water you melt the plastic a little and make it a bit softer, but they will fall off after a few days again.

    An extra tip for soaking the wood: boil it for an hour or two, it really accelerates the process by a lot.

    Awesome stuff Tommy! Regarding tip 3 and after watching Josh's workshop. I really like the idea of taking my time setting up the hardscape, making slow adjustments over the course of several weeks. My question is that if you are using a bunch of wooden hardscape how do you balance the soaking in order to keep them submerged, while also having the tank not filled for several weeks? If you soak them first and then get to setting everything up, then I imagine they would fully dry out by the time you actually fill the tank?

    Didn't know the +1. Thanks for that tip. Otherwise when I put new fish in the tank I use a thin hose(the type is used at hospitals) and maintain a constantly dropping water 💧 during 2 hours. Cheers guys

    i have a problem, everytime i buy male guppies they last like a month or 2 then they start developing fin rot or bloating . For as long as i have kept guppies i dont know what causes this, i do weekly water changes with RO water and the fish have plenty of room to hide. I also feed frozen tropical food-brine,bloodworms etc.

    • @glasscanvasart5273
      @glasscanvasart5273 2 роки тому +1

      Guppies like hard water, not the soft water you get from RO. Having said that it could just be that poor breeding has lead to them becoming weak.

    • @boges11
      @boges11 2 роки тому +1

      Decrease the light period or strength. I have 9 tanks. 7 are on 8hrs and the other 2 are at 7hrs because I was having algae problems in those 2. I also decreased 1 light to 60% strength. No more algae problems.

    What kind of vinyl do you use for backgrounds? Is it aquarium specific or is it a type of window vinyl with a water activated adhesive?

    • @pablosx7087
      @pablosx7087 2 роки тому +2

      Since you are placing it on the outside of the aquarium you don't need anthing aquarium specific. I use frosted window vinyl and it works great. Also, using a water+soap mix helps you place it and get rid of air bubbles before it dries up.

    Again, Filters, CO2 but i assume there is a heater somewhere, but where you rarely mention heaters in any of your videos.
