I had it when I was a pre teen and didn't understand it or what I had to do, so now I'm an adult I thought right let's finally play this game and nope still didn't get it
Seriously one of the best lists I've ever seen. This is actually extremely accurate and the best WatchMojo countdown video I've ever seen, thanks for making!
Viewtiful Joe from Capcom was a great take on the action formula but my guess is it was overshadowed by other IPs from Capcom (Devil May Cry, Resident Evil, Onimusha)
Yes, Skies of Arcadia is great. Bit of Trivia for ya. Did you know, in the Japanese version, when the baddies have Aika captured, Vigoro.. raped Aika. Which actually explains how she is towards him later on after you rescue her.
The sanity effects on Eternal Darkness are so awesome. They could do a whole video on that game. It's always been my favorite GameCube game. Thinking there's bugs on your TV, watching your volume meter go up and down....classic
I remember playing Paychonauts when it first came out and thought it was the greatest game I had ever played. The sequel did not disappoint. Thought it should have won game of the year but atleast it was nominated. Out of all these games I HIGHLY recommend it. It’s good for all ages and the sequel was a gaming Masterpiece
Grim fandango is one of my favorites games ever! I beat it like 10 times now, I was 5 when I first played it, i'm 25 now and I get very happy and excited whenever I see someone talk about it ☺️
The Western game GUN has become a cult classic for me. It's a game that's very cool and fun to play, I play it every once in a while. It makes me feel like I'm in a Clint Eastwood Western, like For a Few Dollars More and The Good, the Bad and the Ugly.
Thank you for adding Soul Reaver! 🙏 remember playing through this game in middle school on my Dreamcast listening to the Linkin Park -Hybrid Theory album 👌😌👍
Metal Slug I Never Gave a Crap About Contra but this SNK Run 'n Gun is one of my personal favorite games wish it gotten an anime adaptation similar to the recent Shenmue The Animation
Played and finished 7 of these games 7. Legend of Dragoon - It was okay, had some innovations, combos were hard plot was dumb. 6. Fallout - not nearly as epic as every other game in the series. 5. Earthbound - a great game no doubt, just not as great as the ones ahead of it. 4. Ico - beautiful and atmospheric. 3. Eternal Darkness - one of the neatest most innovative horror games. Mountains of atmosphere too. 2. Skies of Arcadia - just an absolute joy to play from beginning to end 1. Grim Fandango - One of THE great games of all time. Arguably the greatest adventure game of all time.
Fallout 1 has the best plot, atmosphere, music, and art design of the whole series. Even its playability is fine once you’ve become accustomed to its mechanics. On top of that, the combat is genuinely hair raising and tense because for most of the game you’re just a couple wrong moves away from a particularly sordid demise. The latter day 3D installments, with the possible exception of New Vegas, are like theme park attractions compared to the first two renditions.
Yeeeesss, wasn't expecting to see earthbound, it's my favorite game of all time, with no competition whatsoever. Played like 10 times already and enjoy watching people play as well. The story is sooo freaking good, I'll die playing that game
Thank you for the update, WatchMojo..!! Back in the late 80s, there was an awesome game called 'Leisure Suit Larry 2'. That was an all time classic game for me. After that one, The Secrets of Monkey Island.
it's such a shame that these 20 games were left so underappreciated for a long time, when they are some of the BEST games in their genres, i played Skies of Arcadia RELIGIOUSLY... so good...
In Steam, the game 'Homefront The Revolution - has an inside port to play Time-Splitters 2. There are mods to minimize how much of Homefront you actually need, to play Time-Splitters 2. Unfortunately, as far as I have found Time-Splitters solo game was never released in Steam, neither 1 nor the 2.
Great to see Legend of Dragoon get a shout. I remember borrowing it from a friend when I was 12, only got to disc 2. 4 years later I see it in a Gamestation, mint condition with both manuals for £30, bargain!
yay psychonauts is getting some recognition I may have completed the sequel and original a while ago but I still can't get over the cleverness of the game it was so much fun and serves as one of my all time favorites there is simply nothing else like it
“Exit” was an excellent puzzle/platformer for the PSP. It has a film noir/comic book aesthetic, a sense of humour, and (like most puzzle/platformers) was easy to pick up and really drew you in as the puzzles got deeper and harder, despite mild frustrations with the controls and occasionally slow/unresponsive AI characters. There was over 100 levels, even more to download once you finished the game, and a sequel.
Most of these games are popular/appreciated. Cult classics would be something like Deadly Premonition or No More Heroes or Doshin the Giant or Blue Stinger or Enemy Zero.
Man, Jet Force Gemini...you brought back huge nostalgia feels for me there! Does anyone know where I can play this these days? American McGee's Alice too, for that matter. ♥
Lots of RPG's on the list because they were one of the least popular genres in the early days. Once Skyrim and out and pretty much solidified RPG's as one of the top game genres, it only made sense that people would go out and seek older games of the same type. This is why you see people gushing much more for the games they despised a couple decades ago.
I absolutely love Skies of Arcadia! It's not only the greatest game on the Dreamcast but also one of the greatest RPGs as well as one the of the best games ever in general imho.
Panzer Dragoon Saga was the first game I thought when I saw the title, it's so awesome yet so underrated to the point that it didn't even make this list.
@@jimbo9208 System Shock 2 is in this list for underperforming commercially, and is considered the hallmark game in the immersive sim genre that is famous for being critically acclaimed but very niche and underperforming in sales.

spec ops was so rad partly because on the surface it just looks like any old third person shooter gears of war clone, but it turned out to be its own amazing thing
I'm glad I own most of these. I do wish that Psychonauts was given first place over Earthbound because Earthbound as of now isn't really a cult title because of its giant amount of support from Nintendo.
I feel No More Heroes should be considered a cult classic. I don’t know many people outside my self who’s played them all, while it managed to gain a trilogy and a spin-off.
You didn’t put the real #1:jade empire,we fans of it have been asking YEARS for a sequel to bioware,in a e3 interview that asked online fans questions to be submitted to bioware & I did asked it but it wasn’t the answer I was looking for,but that was many years ago so I hope that bioware changes their mind soon.
There's way to many of them, but the "Shenmue" series definitely has one, though part 3 was not well received commercially, the fans run strong, and want part 4 already. There also the "Ecco The Dolphin" series, and if no one has played "MDK 2" in their life, you're missing out on one of the best games ever made, its on "Steam" right now, get it, you won't regret it!😎😉

Forgot Earthbound fits in that cult classic category. Still no love for Lost Odyssey. Great game that flew under the radar as a 360 exclusive. If you haven't played it, do yourself a favor and get a copy and play it. It was once free on the 360 store, too.

Super Mario RPG yo. That should've been right up there with earthbound honestly. Both still hold up like a fine wine.
What about postal 2?
Grim Fandango is a must play every year. Best game for día de muertos.
Grim fandango one of the best games ever
MS should suggested part 2.
I had it when I was a pre teen and didn't understand it or what I had to do, so now I'm an adult I thought right let's finally play this game and nope still didn't get it
Reason why I clicked this vid
My eyes shine whenever sombody asks what Grim Fandango is, because I get to introduce this gem of a game to someone who just has to try it!
It’s a damn shame that these games were overlooked because a lot of these games are even better then some triple A games
Same goes for Psychonauts 2, it's even better than the first one.
First game that comes to my mind when talking about cult classics is Deadly Premonition. You either think it's bad or you LOVE it. I love it.
I thought the same. Was sad it wasn't listed, honestly it should be.
Thankfully a list that finally mentions LEGEND OF DRAGOON! soooo underrated!
chroooonically underrated.
It, along with other ps1 classics: Parasite Eve, Dino Crisis and Einhander!
It's a borderline crime that Beyond Good & Evil nor Giants: Citizen Kabuto aren't on this list.
Seriously one of the best lists I've ever seen. This is actually extremely accurate and the best WatchMojo countdown video I've ever seen, thanks for making!

Smash Bros Melee is pretty cool, too!~ Even though it has a creepy third eye on the back of Daisy's trophy when the game originally came out.
Viewtiful Joe from Capcom was a great take on the action formula but my guess is it was overshadowed by other IPs from Capcom (Devil May Cry, Resident Evil, Onimusha)
Crazy thing about Earthbound is that everyone nearly forgot about the game until Ness started appearing in the Smash Bros franchise.
yeah, i didnt know about Earthbound until later, my first encounter with Ness was Smash.
Undertale is what got me into Earthbound

Skies of Arcadia is amazing and I wish Sega would just port it to the Switch already!
A remastered version would also work
@@DragonKazooie89 as long as we can get something. It was one of the first games I've ever tried to 100% and boy, it was hard.
Add Jet Set Radio/Jet Set Radio Future here.
a Remaster would be best, with more content, especially for the latter half of the game when you're flying freely.
Yes, Skies of Arcadia is great. Bit of Trivia for ya. Did you know, in the Japanese version, when the baddies have Aika captured, Vigoro.. raped Aika. Which actually explains how she is towards him later on after you rescue her.
I didn’t realize time splitters wasn’t popular. I played it a lot
"not popular" never exclusively means it's bad.
I didn't either, I always hear people praising it

I was convinced Panzer Dragoon Saga was going to be #1 but they’re right, Earthbound was a better pick for the position.
At least they could have included it in the list, how did they miss such an awesome and underrated game?
And one of the few games more expensive the Earthbound at least for a loose copy.
Aw, no "The Longest Journey"?
Or any of the Treasure games?
I'm glad you put in all of the TimeSplitters games though.
Love both Psychonauts and EarthBound!
I just played Psychonauts for the first time, a week before 2 came out, and I thought it was a good game
Legend of Dragoon is like Final Fantasy with Power Rangers.
I love it.
The whole legacy of Kain series should have made the list if time splitters franchise did is my only feedback.
Absolutely
Throughout the whole video I was like "where's earthbound?" and then I was pleasantly surprised by the end
Legend of Dragoon is one of my all-time favorites. I'm glad to see it get recognition somewhere.
I see Grim Fandango, I click!
Skies of Arcadia is maybe my favorite RPG that doesn't have "Final" or "Fantasy" in the name. SO deserved more recognition than it got.
El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron.
The stained glass scene alone is breathtaking.
Earthbound's graphics are so vibrant and polished.
The game looks amazing to this day and it's almost 30 years old.
Skies is still in my Top 3 favorite video games.
I just finished replaying "Legend of Dragoon" about a month ago. I play it at least once per year. 🙂
I love going back through the game every year or two. Forever waiting and holding out hope for a remaster!!
"DOUBLE SHHLASH!!!" That game is expensive as hell now at my local game shop.

Soul Reaver is such a underrated game. a must play.
Liked and am watching!
Played Godhand on the PS2 when I was in college. Quite challenging but a lot of fun!
Okami is a must play game. Love it.
When it comes to JRPGs, my cult classic is Lunar Silver Star Story / Lunar 2 Eternal Blue. Those games had a following.
So freaking glad to see Soul Reaver on this list! Also wanted to give a shout to Fur Fighters.
super happy to see some legend of dragoon love!
Yes legend of the dragoon made the list I did play it was amazing fun to play and told one hell of a story
