I totally agree. I couple years ago I had a few neighborhood friend that I was close with and we used to all bike around the neighborhood during the pandemic. Then we started calling ourselves, “The Biking Gang” and some younger girls in our neighborhood who we thought were annoying and sassy decided that they wanted to start their own group and we had like weird thing you had to do to join and some stuff happened and let’s just say that was a toxic friend group and I don’t talk to them as often anymore. So it was fun until we labeled ourselves as, “The Biking Gang” instead of just being friends that biked around the neighborhood.

I feel like a squad is very different to a friendship group bc in a squad there is a leader and that’s where the jealousy comes from however a friendship group doesn’t always have a leader. Even though friendship groups might not have specific leaders, they can still be extremely toxic bc of things like there being duos that just ignore everyone sometimes. I’m in a friendship group of six like this and it’s very toxic a lot of the time but the problem is it is only one girl. I personally agree with everything you’re saying as I can verify that all of it is true. Parents do play a key role in how the children react as we get advice when everything is so chaotic and sometimes that advice just makes everything worse. Even though a lot of groups are in the industry you are in, parents have so much influence and it isn’t necessarily the best thing. I feel as though you guys really addressed most of what I think needed to be said here in this video about being in groups. Sadly you three have been in some less that healthy ones in the past..so you, in many ways, are some of the best people to be getting this message out there for young potential influencers, and just people in general to hear. However in the chat. Sophie asked a question..."would you join a squad?" I honestly don't have a quick or easy answer for that. Being in a group or squad as far as influencing is concerned...at face value it sounds like a great idea. You get a large group of popular and talented people together and make content with each other. Having that many other personalities and experiences together in one place can lead to some truly amazing content potential. Lets be honest about it, most of us first got to know the three of you when you were a member of a group. Its typically great for your "career" as being in these groups often increases your exposure a great deal, and hence your social media numbers will increase as a result of it. Furthermore you have, in theory, a large group of friends that you can hang out with and grow with. If ran properly, and if the adults in the room keep the overall focus of the group on being a healthy place to work and grow as an influencer...I feel that Squads, or Groups, could be a great thing. Honestly, I have always felt that if it was just the kids doing all of this, with as little involvement from the parents as needed, aside from editing and camera work, that many of these groups that you speak of, would not have turned toxic like they did, certainly nowhere near as badly as they did. Its all about finding that healthy balance or creating content, but not at the expense of people's mental health and general well being. Creating a space that people can grow and flourish in with support for them should they require it. That is the problem though...That is not at all what happens. All too often these groups bring out the absolute worst in people. The potential to make large sums of money being a successful influencer, is a large part of the problems that these groups have. Parents get blinded by the size of a paycheck, and soon it is all they seem to be able to think about. This obsession with money, like a poison, spreads quickly to all aspects of the group. Soon, it turns into parents arguing and fighting over things like "how much screen time my daughter is getting", or "why are all the good video ideas going to that person" and so on. These arguments turn increasingly petty, as soon you will hear full blown arguments about topics that don't mean anything like a girl changing her hair color to the same as another girls, or arguments about where people are standing in certain shots "my kid needs to be in front!". Soon, its basically a weekly ordeal, if not a daily ordeal, for the kids to be sitting there while the parents are acting like 5 year old brats that didn't get a toy in their happy meals. Worse, is often one or two of the parents becomes the ring leader of sorts, and starts telling everyone else what to do constantly. This toxic and hostile energy, almost always gets directed at the influencers. I have read, and seen myself, grown adults yelling at their kids for a simple mistake. Or worse, they start yelling at other people's kids for next to nothing or just to belittle them in order to make their kid look better or get more attention. Parents often get their kids involved in this putrid mentality too and start encouraging them to sabotage their own friends in the group in order to increase their "position" in the group. That is when the "poison" spreads to the influencers fully. Because if you are in a toxic situation, it also brings out the worst in you. That is when you hear about backstabbing, talking behind people's backs, and overall just people acting like bad friends. It really becomes a very unfun, unsafe, unhealthy, and even emotionally dangerous place for people to be. This leads to a lot of mental health issues. I feel a lot of this behavior is because the amount of stress that everyone is constantly put under in these groups. That stress is eventually going to come out somewhere, and most of the influencers are not going to take it out on their parents, so naturally it gets directed at each other, or worse gets internalized. Then you touched on one of the most toxic elements of these groups in the video as well, and that is the emphasis that often is put on exclusivity. Where often the adults pass rules that prevent the members of the group from doing content with people outside of that group. This, in extreme cases is even done to the point that they wont allow members to even hang out with people outside of their group. This is so unhealthy for anyone's mental state for two main reasons. The first being that you have no control over who your own friends are and who you can spend time with. But also it puts a psychological element of control added to the group that people might not fully understand. Basically, it makes it so leaving that group, means you must also leave all of your friends behind, and potentially never be allowed to spend time with them again. In one well known incident, a person left a group and all her friends were forced to even block her on social media(that still bothers me)...And sadly, this wall of text only scratches the surface of how toxic a group can become if its run by the wrong people... So, I agree with you three, as good as being in groups was for the three of your "careers", the other parts of it, the negatives involved, were not worth it. Sadly, the three of you got caught up in other people's greed, desire to live vicariously through their kids, and self destructive personal behaviors. I think though that, the lessons that you three learned from that experience, will help you and guide you for the rest of your lives. You three have seen first hand how these groups can be. You have seen that often the adults in the room are just kids in big bodies. You have felt the mental stress and pressures applied with being in these groups. I feel that you will use this knowledge to better yourselves and better your lives. It took a lot of strength to get out of those situations, and it takes great wisdom to learn the lessons from them that you all have learned and shared with us here. Be mindful and proud of what you have overcome. Use it, not just in your life, but the lives of others as you continue down the path. One day, when you have kids of your own(if you choose to) use the experiences of this time to guide them through their own journeys. Never forget where you have been, even if you have no desire to return, for the lessons of the past are always a guide for what lies ahead. Most importantly, never let those people that have wronged you in the past darken your spirit. A deed done is a reflection of the person that did it, never the person it is done to. I also should mention, that it is my belief that the three of you, have parents that care for you greatly, and are not part of the problem. I feel that they have found the healthy balance that I spoke of, and that they should be the model for other influencer parents. I cannot imagine Ashley or Heather getting on one of your accounts to curse out a 11 year old fan that said a opinion they didn't like, but sadly I have seen that very thing happen. Its...sad(ill simply say that, I try to be polite if I can) Try to look at it this way, at least that experience is over now. Onward down the path to the next stop of the journey, and we will be here with you for as long as we can. Here is my 2cents on this: it’s ok to have squads, it’s ok to have groups, and it’s even ok to have labels, but when you step into trying to control someone, or say they can’t hang out with anyone else, that is a problem, and I can see why you girls don’t want to be part of squads anymore. But please know from my life’s experience, it is ok to have groups and be able to have other people in your life.

Yes but even in just a friends group, there is always going to be a natural leader. That's just human nature. If you have a group of friends and you all decide to go see a movie, you can have 3 people wanting to see 1 movie, 2 other people wanting to see another movie and 2 other people wanting to see a third movie, so someone has to step up and take charge or nothing would get settled. That's why even in a friends group, there is always someone seen as the leader

If you have a group of friends and you all decide to go see a movie, you can have 3 people wanting to see 1 movie, 2 other people wanting to see another movie and 2 other people wanting to see a third movie, so someone has to step up and take charge or nothing would get settled. That's why even in a friends group, there is always someone seen as the leader
