I mean come ON!! The choice of coming into the story already regretting the choices, vs other interpretations where the regrets slowly get bigger, just makes that final line so crisp.
A wonderful performance of a wonderful song. When my daughter performed this song they added bongos in the background. It gave it a whole new sound. You have an outstanding voice. P.S. I have been a professional music contest judge for 30 years.
I was looking for this song as sung by Audra McDonald on youtube... to post on my Facebook page. I love it's message. Then I found your version. Hannah... this is a BRILLIANT! Sooo truly felt, so clearly in your heart and eyes... You blow Audra out of the water! THIS is the version I posted on my FB Wall. As a fellow Actor, my hats off to you... I wish you a rich and satisfying and WONDERFUL Career Hannah!!! And please, don't settle for anything less than the Moon.
This is the best interpretation I've seen yet. At first, I thought it was going to be a ho-hum performance. But I absolutely love this version. The humorous interpretations are nice, but this is deeper and leaves the audience with a better understanding of the piece. Fantastic job.
My daughter is playing Hand in the University of the Arts upcoming production of In the Green at the end of October in Philadelphia. I have been listening to the cast recording, and I am obsessed with your voice - just love your tone, especially in your lower register. So I searched you out on UA-cam and found this gem. Gorgeous! My daughter also has a rich lower register - she is so excited to follow in your footsteps!
You sound so honest, like really sad and like you're (or your character) is actually reliving everything all over again, not trying to belive anything but the truth; that you married for money not love and stars and moon. I LOVE IT!
You know, I thought I'd rather have the humor. But I was completely wrong, it's so powerful this way. Your voice is amazingly strong and honest. This performance is touching.
wow this was...extremely honest. I love this song, and love how people can perform it so differently. To this day, I have yet to see someone take this honest, heartfelt approach. This is splendid. Great actress.
Like another person said, I never comment on videos. But I have to. This is amazing. Just simply fantastic, and I'm so grateful that I could even get the chance to watch this video. Thank you for inspiring me in so many ways. You are beautiful and talented beyond words.
No joke, I also never comment on videos, but I watched this video a few years ago and I just recently remembered it when looking through my sheet music. I showed it to my friend and we both just cried (another thing I never do). You are such an intelligent singer and I appreciate the amazing and deep connection you found in the text. Inspiring.
This is my absolute favourite interpretation of this song. You're an extraordinary actress and you have a beautiful voice. Best of luck for whatever's in the future :) (PS - always go for the good guy, not the one with the money)
I really like the timbre of your voice. I'm also glad you did this in its original key (right?). I did this a little while ago and had to transpose it because it's pretty low. I really enjoyed this!
No, maybe you are thinking of something else. This is from Songs For a New World by Jason Robert Brown. Its a musical revue for two guys and two girls. This song is for one woman looking back on her life. I wouldn't be surprised if there is a similar song that is meant for three singers.
Hah, my profile lied, I'm actually 18. haha, but yeah I am currently studying at NYU's Tisch school of the arts in CAP21. you are so kind, thank you so much!
wasn't this song originally written for a musical about three girls that didn't know what they had and the value of love? I thought this was a three person song !?! I'm not sure. What do you think?
@joltgoddess It sounds to me like you prefer bad acting. If the actor isn't feeling things "interior" then no amount of externalized movement will ever be true. This acting is raw, honest, gutsy and incredibly real. Thank GOD she was not doing what you seem to think is good acting.
I don't like the way the song is portrayed in this video. I like the following video better because I think the girl gives the song more character. Elyse Brenner sings "Stars and the Moon"
+Jessica G I disagree and do you really don't like this version? This is an awesome musical version of this great song, while Elyse's version is a very good high school version of the song. This is actually the best version of the song I've seen.

that is the most amazing performance of this song I have ever seen. It truly blew my MIND! bravo! Absolutely perfect.
Well done! Thank you so much! I think you're one of my favorites singing the song
gee, you make me blush. thanks so much, you keep making my day! if i have any more videos, i will be sure to post them! thank you thank you thank you!
I was really moved by this rendition. I teared up when she sings “I said to him” in the third verse... thank you Hannah Whitney

This is possibly the best acted version of this song.

This song just proves that 'living the dream' doesn't always mean living your own dream.

This is the most incredible version of this dog I have ever seen. Your emotion throughout the piece brought me to tears

Always a beautiful sound. Nice performance. Much better than the terrible belting associated with this composer's songs.
