I watched all of those clips live and it was some of the most incredible hours of my life. I wish I knew this was a job when I was in college 15 years ago. Thank you for sharing!
Kelly Norton, Agreed! Viewing these ocean bottom seabed panoramas with meditation music playing in the background was very calming- even healing, almost like being at a spa. At the same time, witnessing these young ocean scientists making new discoveries in real time. Spectacular. ..And for me, was in college 40 years Ago!
if you have young kids (it's a real job, lol) then hopefully you can indeed help guide them and support them in getting them hooked on science in general, yes including this cool channel - not only for core learning interests, but possibly to help inspire future educational track and future job ! :D
Sorry, but the commentary is EXCRUCIATING! I have to turn the sound off to watch these videos! The film is amazing but the moronic, self-conscious 'commentary' is embarrassing!
All the critters are awesome--and I love the wonder and enthusiasm of the crew! "He's twirling and throwing out flowers--oh I love you!" just made my day!
Never stop sharing this please. The beauty and wonder we all get to experience is an amazing service to us all. I also love hearing how excited you guys get!
Thank you so much for these videos and thank you for not removing the voices of the scientists. I love how happy they are when they see something rare or cute. :)
The team is an integral part of these discoveries, and it is a wonderful thing to hear the excitement and enthusiasm of each and every person involved! Science isn’t a dry, humorless thing in a laboratory, it is people doing cool stuff like this and poking around in the unknown!
@@alphatonic1481 So do I. And I am a retired USGS guy! These ‘kids’ are doing great science and having a great time doing it - being able to share the experience is such a joy.
I was fortunate to catch all of these moments live - even though this will sound like an emotion that’s not rational, I confess I have a sense of pride knowing I was “discovering w you all” :) Testament I suppose to how much I love EVN and all that you do.
At first I didn't notice that this video did not include the recent addition of labels. With or without, these are delightful, but I would suggest considering also uploading a second version of this with labels. Two versions (eventually) available might have several advantages.
When you look at these amazing videos from the bottom of our own ocean, no sun, complete darkness, quite cold - yet still life. It really makes you wonder could there be life on the moons Enceladus and Europa, under the thick ice layers. I'm sure one day we'll send a probe to poke around on those moons to see what's underneath the ice.
Well, deep sea creatures tend to rely on the remains of surface creatures. I'm not denying the fact there could be life on those moons, but it's more likely for it to be bacteria.
I've seen a bunch of people make Subnautica jokes about this one moon that's supposed to have an ocean way deeper that ours. Subnautica is a game btw if you didn't know.
Thankyou for my pre sleep treat guys. Amazing, beautiful and just mesmerising especially the Dandelion dancing n twirling. Really did look like a tiny fairy in glowing mandarin toned frills.
@8:52-The soundtrack and closed-caption subtitles lack scientific names, which is a shame as they could be a learning aid. Thank you for a splendid video.
I enjoy watching these so much. Just amazing creatures we would never know about. (that flesh-colored starfishy animal looked like a va*ina. freaked me out for a second). Thanks for posting!
I would never have guessed that so many deep water invertebrates were such good dancers. Perhaps you should start a series of Dancing with the Sea Stars! I had never heard of sea pigs before I started watching your videos. Are sea pigs a type of shell-less snail (opisthobranchia)?
It can cause disorientation especially to the ones with eyes. Because there's basically no light at this depth and those eyes are more accustomed to bioluminescent produced by other animals. Sometimes when they try to observe a fish (with the light), the fish's movement get a little bit disoriented by making few bump/bonk on the rocks. But when they see this happen, they usually leave the fish alone. So there's no clear evidence if the light from the ROV actually harmed the animals, because they don't stay observing these animals in long period of time.
Is it just me? First time watching this channel I pictured the crew inside a submarine with everyone peering out the window talking? It took me a couple episodes to realized IT'S A DAMN DRONE AND NOT A SUBMARINE!!! I think I need to take a break from this "above water see-weed" I've been enjoying and go 😌😑💤💤💤
You can learn more about the naming process and listen to recorded pronunciations and the complete ʻoli (or chant) composed of all the names here: nautiluslive.org/blog/2022/04/08/whats-expedition-name-building-relationships-between-people-and-place-through-olelo
If you click on show more at the top, it gives you a better idea of how to pronounce the name - Luʻu-a-ea-a-hiki-i-ke-kumu. In Hawaiian, you pronounce all of the vowels.
that'd be cool but those softwares need huge databases of existing pictures to train themselves, i'm afraid we do not have enough photographic material of deep sea wildlife to have this kind of technology applied in that field yet

Apart from the visuals being stunning, the running commentary completes these videos.
I love the conversation.

The wonders of the deep ocean never fail to amaze and inspire me.... Love the Nautilus!!!
I absolutely love these videos. I just loved how amazing y'all get by so many things.

This crew has dope chemistry
This channel really calms my anxiety. I love the reactions. Glad no one is jaded by this beauty.
This video proves that Hawaii is beautiful from the Deep sea floor to the top of the Volcanos
Magnificent. All that beauty and we are privileged to see it.
I love that the images are crystal clear.
The dandelion looked like a fat little fairy sitting on a spinning flower 🤩 This is awesome!!

You could call the second "director's cut," I suppose. "Platinum edition"?
Listening to a scientist practically fangirling and crying over a creature is so wholesome. I love to watch your videos :)
Thank you for taking us to a fascinating part of the world most of would, otherwise, never get to see.

observer #1: "...do you think this is, like, a defense mechanism?" *laughing*
pink sea cucumber: *dances seductively*

The best youtube suggestion I've ever received tbh
Makes you wonder if aliens are like: "Wow, look at that, it walks upright and tries to do math, soooooooo cute" while looking at us.
This channel is gold.
What is the debris coming of the sea dandelion? 🤔😳😊
one word from me....
"Fascinating"
It’s amazing just how much we don’t know about our planet.
I'd love to be there with you all. Stay safe and well.
So amazing. I agree with her, I love you little creatures.
Never ever boring!
I always watch your live feeds and your clips...Amazing informative and a huge thank you to all that you do....Thank you...
So cool to watch. I love the variety of coral, starfish, sea urchins and that cute ballerina (jellyfish?)
These are wonderful - but I'd love to have a depth indicator too :)

Nominations for the most coolest job in the World are in, and we have a clear winner.
I wish i could see all the beautiful creatures

In a later post, someone noted that sea pigs are holothurians, related to sea cucumbers rather than shell-less snails. Is that correct?

That little spinny fish looked like he was wearing uggs🤣

Guys, I'm gonna miss these dives! But just until... June or July? And of course I'm gonna miss you all. 😋 Sorry, I had to say it.
Beautiful!!
Amazing. Kiss from Angola
I'd like to know the depths of each scene, please!
You have a sun star in your lab? Is he a living star that you can watch and interact with or some unlucky guy in a jar?

Those 10 arm starfish are NASTY terrible predators that devour everything in its path
I find it interesting how much coral looks like mushrooms, part of me wants to believe they are related in some way but they probably aren't lol

[7:50] How old is this sponge? I'm not sure of the name - Polyopagon?

what sea animal is the purple long thingy
omg omg omg its amazing! holy, amazing, wonderful, wow, Wee! Bit less screaming and more normal talking and informing would be nice.
Any data on the effects of artificial light on various creatures at depth.
