Hello Srabonti ur friend from Toronto Canada 🇨🇦 Let me tell you something very honestly I also used to think about the severe summer heat when I was growing up in Kolkata, and always wished to go to a cold climate country. God sent me to Canada. When I was young the cold did not bother me but now I am a senior, seriously I return to Kolkata every winter months November to March to avoid the severe winters. It has been 50 years. So I totally understand your wishes. 😊

Why not? You should explore a new place.. different country. Especially at this age when you are done with all your responsibilities and you have the qualification you must. Glad to know that you two have the enthusiasm to live differently. Age is no barrier. When you come out you will know how people are friendly and always make plans like this. Last 31 years we are settled in USA and love it here. It is the best of both worlds. What’s your social connections wd be that’s definitely depends on you.. everyone’s experiences are different. Only one hiccup wd be your aging mom. I don’t think bringing her with you guys wd be a smart decision as medical insurance for non citizens are messed up. And where will you leave her and why wd you leave her? Anyway….all the best!

@@asfamily4360 nothing to thank me… The reality in the US is not as it was 35 yrs back! Even 10 yrs back I could never imagine that I would spend more than 2 weeks in India! Starting 2005, I bought some properties in Goa, a fairly calm and cosmopolitan place to enjoy vacations…. Slowly during my 2-3 weeks stay in India, I started exploring and doing a positive-negative excel spreadsheet in USA vs India. By 2017, my decision was firm! Time to take an early retirement at age 55, and get to know my motherland! I’ll share that list: Positive points of big cities first: USA- Big cities because potential job opportunities are available there only for qualified candidates. But you must get at least a work Permit VISA, which is not easy! 1- over all clean, ( not everywhere ) and good AQI. 2- Generally low crime, but in high tax areas only! 3- Food and clothing expense is manageable for the beginners. 4-,Individual freedom is good, no interference by neighbors. At the same token, no help from neighbors either at times of emergency! Only help is calling 911! Negatives: 1-BIGGEST NEGATIVE!!! MAJOR EXPENSE IS BUYING PRIVATE MEDICAL INSURANCE . Companies won’t provide insurance in the first 3-6 months. 2- Hospitalization bill is astronomical!!! Small example- I had Maleria yrs ago after a trip to Kolkata. 15- day hospitalization bill was more than 100,000 USD! Of course Bank of America paid, but only 80%! So, Only 80 or 70% of the total hospitalization cost is covered!!! Rest to be from your pocket. 3- Healthcare has deteriorated drastically! A friend recently had GB surgery as an out patient! Released in the evening after a morning surgery! I got my own GB Surgery done at Columbia Asia ( now Manipal ), by a top surgeon, and STAR health paid the entire cost, and allowed me to stay for 4 nights, private room etc, until I felt comfortable to be discharged. You will NOT find this level of of healthcare in the US! Many of my friends do all their dental work, knee surgery etc in India now. 4- A very subtle but palpable under current of racism exists. The low income blue collar community feels that their jobs are being taken by Cab drivers, gas station and fast food joints. White collar, educated class feels Indian IT, doctors, scientists are taking the US jobs! 5- US cities have more dark skinned people, brown, ethnic, middle eastern, African countries and various ethnic communities than “ Caucasian” people, what we typically think, as foreigners/ white people. 6- Ethnic areas in NY NJ Flushing, Queens, Bronx are full of homeless, unhealthy surroundings and blue collar Indians and Bangladeshi folks get deported often!! 7- Without a car, life is impossible! Car insurance is a huge expense! 8- Indian communities are there; but for people of your age group, from upper middle class class, well settled in India might find it difficult to to assimilate with the affluent, well settled middle aged Indian community, living there for 20-30 years. A natural human feeling of inferiority complex is bound to affect some people, specially the ladies! 9- Food- no fresh fish, chicken, mutton! All packed! No parar bajar… only supermarkets, in a driving distance not in residential blocks like we have here. 10- Over the counter basic medicine even needs a prescription, hence a doctor visit. 11- house hold work- There’s a myth that everything is done by machine in foreign. True, we do have washing machine, clothes dryer, dish washer etc. but, own home, and luxury Rental apartments only provide those facilities. Ordinary rental apartments will NOT provide a dishwasher, or clothes dryer. In a cold country a Dryer is a must!! No way you can dry your laundry in a balcony… 90% apartments don’t even have a balcony! 12- It snows from late Nov to April. Life is really tough then! You have a good working background in the Hospitality industry. Applying for a job of your standards, full Work Permit and sponsorship from a company would be a wise decision! A reasonable lifestyle for a couple requires at least a 150,000 USD annual salary to maintain a similar lifestyle you have in Kolkata. Otherwise, ask Soumi seriously trying for an overseas assignment 2-3 yrs etc in Europe. You’ll e joy the real charm of living abroad. US doesn’t have HSBC presence any more! But Europe does! I wouldn’t recommend london. Terrible financial situation! Let’s be proud that India is the 5th largest economy in the, soon to be the 3rd! UK is behind us… Germany soon to be behind too! I love Indore! Cleanest city in India! India has great cities to live too! I hope, the US life related details are helpful for you. Wish you all the best!!!!!

Rome feels like a Bangladeshi town. I’ve been going to Europe 3/4 times a year just to get out of NY, but not in big cities, European suburban towns, or villages. For you settling there would be tough.. no jobs. European INFLATION is sky rocketing…
bhalo thakun.. look at nijer desher good points… research korun…India is vast! Kolkata is not the only city here… I also feel WB is not the same! I wish you a happy life wherever you settle!!!! Please don’t mind the long comment… first experiment with a 6- month tourist visa in the US, staying at an Air B&B ( in winter months), and see the life in 4-6 ft snow all around. It will be a very practical experience. Enjoy a foreign vacation!!!
Getting your daughter on a job placement in Europe would be a good option for you. Or, getting her married to a well settled U.S. Citizen is a good option. Consider all options to fulfill your dream! God bless! All the best!!!

@@asfamily4360 nothing to thank me… The reality in the US is not as it was 35 yrs back! Even 10 yrs back I could never imagine that I would spend more than 2 weeks in India! Starting 2005, I bought some properties in Goa, a fairly calm and cosmopolitan place to enjoy vacations…. Slowly during my 2-3 weeks stay in India, I started exploring and doing a positive-negative excel spreadsheet in USA vs India. By 2017, my decision was firm! Time to take an early retirement at age 55, and get to know my motherland! I’ll share that list:
Positive points of big cities first:
USA- Big cities because potential job opportunities are available there only for qualified candidates. But you must get at least a work Permit VISA, which is not easy!
1- over all clean, ( not everywhere ) and good AQI.
2- Generally low crime, but in high tax areas only!
3- Food and clothing expense is manageable for the beginners.
4-,Individual freedom is good, no interference by neighbors. At the same token, no help from neighbors either at times of emergency! Only help is calling 911!
Negatives:
1-BIGGEST NEGATIVE!!! MAJOR EXPENSE IS BUYING PRIVATE MEDICAL INSURANCE . Companies won’t provide insurance in the first 3-6 months.
2- Hospitalization bill is astronomical!!! Small example- I had Maleria yrs ago after a trip to Kolkata. 15- day hospitalization bill was more than 100,000 USD! Of course Bank of America paid, but only 80%! So, Only 80 or 70% of the total hospitalization cost is covered!!! Rest to be from your pocket.
3- Healthcare has deteriorated drastically! A friend recently had GB surgery as an out patient! Released in the evening after a morning surgery! I got my own GB
Surgery done at Columbia Asia ( now Manipal ), by a top surgeon, and STAR health paid the entire cost, and allowed me to stay for 4 nights, private room etc, until I felt comfortable to be discharged. You will NOT find this level of of healthcare in the US! Many of my friends do all their dental work, knee surgery etc in India now.
4- A very subtle but palpable under current of racism exists. The low income blue collar community feels that their jobs are being taken by Cab drivers, gas station and fast food joints. White collar, educated class feels Indian IT, doctors, scientists are taking the US jobs!
5- US cities have more dark skinned people, brown, ethnic, middle eastern, African countries and various ethnic communities than “ Caucasian” people, what we typically think, as foreigners/ white people.
6- Ethnic areas in NY NJ Flushing, Queens, Bronx are full of homeless, unhealthy surroundings and blue collar Indians and Bangladeshi folks get deported often!!
7- Without a car, life is impossible! Car insurance is a huge expense!
8- Indian communities are there; but for people of your age group, from upper middle class class, well settled in India might find it difficult to to assimilate with the affluent, well settled middle aged Indian community, living there for 20-30 years. A natural human feeling of inferiority complex is bound to affect some people, specially the ladies!
9- Food- no fresh fish, chicken, mutton! All packed! No parar bajar… only supermarkets, in a driving distance not in residential blocks like we have here.
10- Over the counter basic medicine even needs a prescription, hence a doctor visit.
11- house hold work- There’s a myth that everything is done by machine in foreign. True, we do have washing machine, clothes dryer, dish washer etc. but, own home, and luxury Rental apartments only provide those facilities. Ordinary rental apartments will NOT provide a dishwasher, or clothes dryer. In a cold country a Dryer is a must!! No way you can dry your laundry in a balcony… 90% apartments don’t even have a balcony!
12- It snows from late Nov to April. Life is really tough then!
You have a good working background in the Hospitality industry. Applying for a job of your standards, full Work Permit and sponsorship from a company would be a wise decision! A reasonable lifestyle for a couple requires at least a 150,000 USD annual salary to maintain a similar lifestyle you have in Kolkata. Otherwise, ask Soumi seriously trying for an overseas assignment 2-3 yrs etc in Europe. You’ll e joy the real charm of living abroad. US doesn’t have HSBC presence any more! But Europe does! I wouldn’t recommend london. Terrible financial situation! Let’s be proud that India is the 5th largest economy in the, soon to be the 3rd! UK is behind us… Germany soon to be behind too! I love Indore! Cleanest city in India! India has great cities to live too! I hope, the US life related details are helpful for you. Wish you all the best!!!!!
