This is a beautiful example of why the rest of the world was so envious of British film-making. So well composed with equal amounts of bitter-sweetness and comedy. Beautifully filmed, great acting and lovely music to go with it.
I have a friend who lives in San Francisco, he was visiting a while back and whilst watching our TV programmes he described it them as total class, the difference he said was stark whilst the variety of our programming was delightful and quality to it's core, we can at least get something right here but really having been subjected to Netflix over lockdown I crave the calm surrounding of series from the 70's and 80's.
@@kevinbaird7277 British film and TV is def better than American - as an American who grew up watching programs from other countries I find British film so much better that I haven’t seen American TV in about 15 years. I often recommend a film/series to someone who hasn’t seen any or much British TV and they are always impressed!!
I just discovered this and love it! It is a wonderful alternative to the hate, violence and cruelty that the new is full of. Just right for the end of the holiday season.

@Justin Royce i really appreciate your reply. I found the site thru google and I'm in the hacking process now. Takes a while so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
This is a peaceful and happy film. Thank you. I search for Canadian sci Fi and British tv if almost any kind. Intelligent, thought provoking and wise. Also great humour.
We've watched this various times through the years--gets better and better. Presently in the Coronavirus "lockdown." Great acting, great music. Thanks for posting!
I used to be on the post 📪 1988. Absolutely loved it. LONDON ec1 to ec4. KEB st Paul's. 2nd post out and delivered by 11am. In the boozer for 12. Remember that 2 deliveries a day by 11am. Used to be a respected profession. 6 months training learning every street and postcode in London. Times have changed!
Lee Clarke - thank you so much for including the write up of what this movie is about....I sure do appreciate it...Lately I have tried to watch movies that people listed but they are not the movies they say they are. At least when there is a write up or a detailed description of what the movie is about you know that you have the right movie....Thumbs up for that....Thanks for sharing this video....Good movie.
Around 7 minutes in when Alison Steadman appears, that's my road...my house is next to the one with the white van. Strangely surreal experience to leave for work each morning and have this being filmed literally on the doorstep.
Brilliant. The story is brilliant because it is true. Mail is delivered by bike in most countries I've visited. The US is an exception, and postmen there regularly die from MI's due to sedentary jobs. And the post there is insolvent for paying for gas powered vehicles. It's true also because you meet interesting people on a bike, not in a shiny new car. The paparazzi, the Colombo cop, and all the rest are also brilliant story parts. How did I miss this? Thanks for posting!
The Missing Postman (TV Movie 1997) - imdb 7.6 Clive Peacock is a postman in a small seaside town in Dorset. He's happy in his job and doesn't want it to change. But new technology is being introduced in his sorting office. Since he can't drive, and since deliveries by bicycle are deemed to be "old fashioned", he is offered early retirement. But he doesn't want to retire. On his last day, he collects the post from the pillar box... and decides to deliver it by hand himself as a protest. And so he starts out on a long journey by bike all around Britain, delivering each letter personally. He is hotly pursued by the police (who want to arrest him for "stealing Her Majesty's mail") and by the media (who see a great human interest story and turn him into a celebrity). But he manages to stay one step ahead of them, making many friends along the way.
And look at the state of The Royal Mail now, bloody privatised and posting a load of compulsary advertising through yer letterbox for us to pay to recycle ourselves. Great little film. Thank you.
I’ve ‘bin watching this film for an hour and I’ve paused to write this and will watch the rest in bits. I took redundancy at 58 and now I’m 80 in a couple of months. Thanks for showing this little gem. Great watching shame the BBC cannot come up with programs as good as this nowadays. If you like this you would probably like The Beiderbecke collection too. Also stars James Bowlam as a school teacher.
