Great tip! A lot of people will benefit from this slick, little trick. It makes perfect sense once you think about it. Thank you for making this video teasterisle.
I always challenged my boys to learn one new thing every day, regardless of what it is. That is also my own personal goal. Well, check that off for today! Brilliant, simple and fast. Just brilliant.
I think a larger rim would increase the chances of pulling straight up. I don’t think the mechanical advantage would increase, but I’m certainly no expert.
With this setup he is not increasing the force he is showing us that he is changing the direction of the applied force from horizontal to a vertical direction which gives him more advantage for pulling "up" the little tree
Crazy easy with such power but we all don't have such luxuries of having a tractor but the idea with the tractor rim is great. Those roots would do wonders to sell as tree root decorations.
If the ground is soft the rim will sink in and possibly flop over. I solved this by laying down 2x4's under the rim (about 4" longer than the rim is wide) like rail road ties, as the rim rolls and the stump comes out the 2x4's follow the rim.
interesting idea, I make several wraps of a 3/8 ths chain around the tree trunk at the bottom, then hook the other end to my front end loader bucket and pull the trees straight up out of the ground. next time I need to pull up some trees I will try the rim method
Problem is, that if the chain fails near the tree, there is enough energy imparted into the chain for it to come back and kill you. I would suggest at least welding a safety bar at the twelve o'clock position across the rim so that the chain is threaded through it. That way if the chain fails near the tree it will fly upward into the safety bar and dissipate enough of that energy before coming back towards you to reduce your danger considerably.
Ryan Taylor You're the type of person to shoot a bullet in the air and worry about it hitting someone. The chances of that happening are beyond small, if it wasn't then our former generation would have never survived.
Only thing missing is a blanket over the chain. I witnessed to my horror what a flying chain can do, and I'll never look at one the same way again (ex farmer here).
some people thinks (old school ) is just not the way to do things any more. high tech lazy way is in. All I can say is this, it's old school for a reason. IT WORKS!. I don't care if it was 100 years ago. or tomorrow. wrong is still in fact wrong. I hate to say it but. lol. right is always right. way to go. brother. a men
I used to pull out trees with a Belarus 3 times as thick with a long cable. I never used 4-wheel drive but I did give it a couple of metres run and the tree pops out like that. Although this wheel rim trick is a brilliant idea! I'll certainly give it a try.
Unless you've got a loader with at least 5K lbs of lift, you'll never get the kind of lifting force that the tractor power and weight has pulling up on the wheel, which acts like a pulley lever.
@@sideskraft Agreed! My 55HP Mahindra has nearly 3K of lifting force which does a good job of lifting the back of the tractor off the ground...with an attachment on the back as well.
The trees i have are about a quarter coin size around, so maybe i can do i with a 4wheeler ,cause i have crazy amount of these small trees that grow every year up During summer!!! So thanks for the idea 💡💡💡
If the chain is longer than the tree is tall the tree can't hit you or the tractor which gives this method a safety advantage over just using the bucket and chain to lift straight up. The bucket would be faster if you weren't worried about getting the muffler knocked off,or worse,an eye poked out,,that is IF the hydraulics can handle the stress of the lift. Chains supposedly absorb energy when they break then go to ground before the "business end" hits the implement or operator,,at least that's the theory but it's pretty stupid to stand close to a chain/cable/line that is being stressed.
We have a saying for such cases: from the cannon to the sparrows. What is reflected in this video. Yes, easy. But for a small tree you must have a tractor. Everyone has trees in the yard, and only a few have a tractor. So yes, it's easy for them, but impossible for the rest.
“Don't play what's there, play what's not there.” ― Miles Davis, Kind of Blue "I think that I shall never see / A billboard lovely as a tree. / Indeed, unless the billboards fall, / I'll never see a tree at all." "Song of the Open Road" written by poet and humorist Ogden Nash:
Or if you can afford it buy a set of pallet forks for your loader and save yours self a lot of time, fuel, and energy and pop them out with them. The curling power is higher than lifting, but I do it with an old skid steer all the time
fuck off, most farmers replant more trees than anyone for wind blockage. those woods are full of half dead trees, more of a hazard than anything. Its just fuel waiting to be ignited
I agree that farmers do far more for the environment than any environmental activist ever will. MOST farmers now practice methods of farming that are far more beneficial to the land such as cover crops, rotation, etc. Most people do not even realize just how beneficial a healthy lawn of lush green grass is to the surrounding area. With that said, a lot of trees does-not-equal healthy trees. When there are too many trees, they compete with one another and struggle to survive. I would much rather have few healthy trees than a lot of unmanaged trees barely making it.
Undergrowth like that isn't good; fire hazard, spreads diseases through the foliage faster, place for both parasites and vermin to thrive, and pulling them up and out like that aerates and loosens the soil.
great tip buddy.thank you for sharing.I tried this myself and laughed for 2 minutes at how easy it was.thank you very much.
Cool! All I need now is an old wheel and some chain. And a tractor.
and the time
and some beer! for someone, to hold of course.
Buelligan88
Also an old man to drive the tractor...😂
And some land
...and a tree.
Great tip! A lot of people will benefit from this slick, little trick. It makes perfect sense once you think about it. Thank you for making this video teasterisle.
Thanks for sharing!
I used this technique to pull out the stumps from a 35 year old cedar hedge and it worked great.
wow.. awesome..I have land full of these same size trees you just saved me tons of time!! thank you
I always challenged my boys to learn one new thing every day, regardless of what it is. That is also my own personal goal. Well, check that off for today! Brilliant, simple and fast. Just brilliant.
That's a great idea! The wheel makes the force upward instead of sideway.
Good idea thanks. Why did I throw out that old rim?
Does the torque or mechanical advantage increase with larger rims...
I am wanting to remove some trees and this idea is a super good one. I have a Jeep 4wd and plan to give this a try. Thank you for your video.
So thats a rim job
I just started laughing. You now know
If I hadn't set the beer down, I'd had blown it out of my nose!
Hahahaha
Crazy easy with such power but we all don't have such luxuries of having a tractor but the idea with the tractor rim is great. Those roots would do wonders to sell as tree root decorations.
Is that a thing?
To Bigfoot it is.@@jamesa.holman2634
Good Bless Engineering and Ingenuity. Great idea! Thanks!
That's amazing! Thank you for sharing. And i love your background music!
Now that is too smart, using physics to make it easier is always awesome. Good job.
If the ground is soft the rim will sink in and possibly flop over. I solved this by laying down 2x4's under the rim (about 4" longer than the rim is wide) like rail road ties, as the rim rolls and the stump comes out the 2x4's follow the rim.
It would have nice to see the rim working against the tree in the video.
the guy left the most important part out
flaming genius
Was that a sassafras tree ❤

Ryan Taylor You probably have a shield on your butter knife when making a sandwich don't you?
SSG. U.S.Army (Ret), Infantry / Sniper, multiple tours
"Chain Snaps almost Hits Kid" look that up on UA-cam and then tell me how chains don't transfer their energy into a whipping action.
Hey, three people have been hit, and two killed, with bullets fired into the air this Fourth of July.
Can I use my Yukon instead of a tractor?
Sure. Any truck should work.
easterisle what kind of tractor rim is best?
Only if you use 91 gas. If you use 89 gas. It wont work. 88 gas might work. 88.5 gas definitely wont.
Pure genius. Thank you!
very crafty idea, gonna have to try it. Simple leverage.
Only thing missing is a blanket over the chain. I witnessed to my horror what a flying chain can do, and I'll never look at one the same way again (ex farmer here).
You're right. People don't know how dangerous they can be.
Great idea,,,going to try it soon with my new tractor
some people thinks (old school ) is just not the way to do things any more. high tech lazy way is in. All I can say is this, it's old school for a reason. IT WORKS!. I don't care if it was 100 years ago. or tomorrow. wrong is still in fact wrong. I hate to say it but. lol. right is always right.
way to go. brother. a men
The laws of physics never change no matter how old they become
Also a good way to pull up fence posts
Good idea, I'm going to try this!
Thanks .
An old bumper jack with a chain works very well also. Great for pulling out fence posts.

What is a Belarus?
Thats a cross between a Belgium and a Walrus
Wow. I'll have to try this techique. Very clever. Thanks!
That is a great idea. Will have to try it one day.
Thanks for the tip , great video 👍🏾
Great idea. I like it. Myself, I would just use the bucket. but it's an awesome hack for people that don't have a front bucket to use.

Great idea, no tractor no problem, your riding lawn mower, or self-propelled lawn mower will do.🤣
Or pickup truck
A tandem bicycle with my wife and her fat friend 😂
Nice. Makes total sense when u think about it.
Clever and simple. Thx!!!

I will use your rim idea with a block and tackle. My hills are too steep for a tractor. I hate Buckthorn!
Thanks for the great tip👍🏼
Great vid!
I'm glad i saw this video before i made my video of me pulling up small trees.
Wouldn’t it be safer to put the chain on the front of the tractor and reverse out so the tractor can’t potentially flip. And if the chain breaks….
Using leverage. Great idea!
Great idea! Thanks!
pure physics, but one has to come up with the idea. super cool!
One Newman Look up flip-flop winch
Wow. Great idea
this works well with fence post
Very clever dude!
Fantastic idea.
Thank u great video
I got to try that. Thanks.
wow great info can't wait to try

Thank you SO much !
I’d plant it, it’s a pretty nice sized tree
All I need is a rim! Thanks!
Update: Tractor driver was decapitated pulling trees....
Great idea
The actual act was never showed
I was thinking the same thing, :)
The actual grammar was never shown, either.
I state your name Now that is funny! Lol!!

1:13...did you even watch the video?
faulcrom. a small version of the French wheel.
awesome idea.
You didn't show how it actually worked. Camera man missed it.
I've been doing this for 45 years.
Probably should have gotten it on video.
That’s is a great idea
Awesome!
Very smart thinking sir.
sure is amazing..
I take wisdom where ever I find it.
Forgot to mention needing a 25000 dollar tractor as well 😂😂😂
You can buy old tractors for 2500, my dad has like 5 Alice Chalmers.
Use golf cart, pickup truck, lawn tractor etc.
Great, now I just need a chain and a tractor.
And a tree
An excellent tree and root puller is my ex. She can tear a oak tree out.
My boss removes trees of about that size with a tractor about that size with no rim.
who ran the camera we didn't even get to see the tree come out
awesome
Great video!
Thanks for the content.
Keep up the good work.
בס'ד
Smart guy!
Nice
Now all I need is a tractor......
Redirected force.
clever
real cleaver
our small two wheel drive tractors pull out bigger trees u just need ag tires not lawn tires
so first you need a tractor.
a tank might do as well...everybody has one or the other for his backyard, no.
ever hear of a pickup truck ?
is that a truck for picking up the ladies?
Dingsheng Xin nope you need tree
This is doable with a hand winch.
It's all mechanical advantage.
Or if you can afford it buy a set of pallet forks for your loader and save yours self a lot of time, fuel, and energy and pop them out with them.
The curling power is higher than lifting, but I do it with an old skid steer all the time
👍🏴🤪
Smart, I just don't like that the trees falling towards the operator.
Especially without a hard hat.
a tractor with street tires lol
Cool technique, but kind of sad to see the woods being wrecked.
fuck off, most farmers replant more trees than anyone for wind blockage. those woods are full of half dead trees, more of a hazard than anything. Its just fuel waiting to be ignited

Cars
Is this what they call a rim-job? XD
Great idea
