In this video, I share essential advice from master improviser Julian Lage to help you break out of guitar jail and start "playing outside." With video clips shot at Chris Thile's Acousticamp, where I studied with Julian and a group of other luminary acoustic musicians.
Includes live footage of Julian improvising on his signature Collings acoustic, playing a couple of bluesy improvs and one improv with two simultaneous tone centers. See how Julian's insights can improve your guitar playing and set you free!

Glad you appreciate this series, Patrick! I felt the need to document and process/interpret some of what I learned, even for my own playing!

This evening I began for the first time, linking the changes with diminished chords, immediately my playing became more fluid, had more movement, interest, fun, and sounded more musical.
