I'm conflicted between "great animatic and use of a similar story element of a kid wanting to be with (his) loving parents" and "horrifying idea of a twisted version of his loving parents trying to hurt Harry which is good but creepy and sad as heck" Edit: Imagine if Voldemort either got into Harry's head and created that nightmare or Harry has (Alice in the Mirror Style) been dragged into a more twisted world of Erised where wishes become more dark
Its more creepy when you know Harry never meet his parents, and as young boy it was like his dream came true, and then crushed, becouse it was just some kind of monster
I can definitely see how Harry would be drawn into this, especially considering how he reacted to seeing the Mirror of Erised. He would be desperate to meet Lily and James.
I think it would be really cool if, in this universe, Harry didn’t enter this world through a door, but through the Mirror of Erised. The mirror would be the replacement for the Beldam, and would show you a reality which contains everything you’d ever want in order to lure you in, before capturing and killing you. This is in keeping with the books, as Harry is shown his parents in the mirror when he stumbles across it.

If you add the fact that James and Lily are dead and this is the only impression or memory he will have of his parents makes it creepy and sad as hell

I might write a short story based on the whole HP/ Coraline mixed idea, and then put it onto Archive of our Own. Honestly, when I first saw the graphic novel version of Coraline, I couldn't help but think about other characters who would be absolutely destroyed by the concept. Harry Potter was the first guess lol
