Vlad, what is your opinion of the stripping of the (former) Professor Emeritus Rein Müllerson, of Tallinn University of his academic accreditation, for having attended a conference in St Petersburg, which the former President and Prime Minister of Russia, Medvedev? After all, this man was the first foreign minister of Estonia after the break up of the Soviet Union, and had been an adviser to Gorbachev before that.
My impression of Putin is that he doesn't want actually to use a nuke rather he wants the effect of using a nuke without actually using one. Using one is an incredibly risky strategy for Russia with little guarantee for success however making everyone believe that you will use one under some kind of red line isn't
It’s called Madman Theory. The term was coined by Richard Nixon, who theorized that a country could get its way by making other countries think it was crazy enough to nuke them, even though it had no intent of actually doing so.

@@thiefsleef6752 They said they were pushed into the corner even before they attacked Ukraine. And they've been given hundreds of escape routes over the years. In fact, the reason we are where we are and Ukrainians are still dying instead of discussing reparations is that the West kept giving russians the escape route and now it's next to impossible to push them out of Ukraine. So what do you suggest that we do with people who do whatever they want and say they were forces to do that?
@@thiefsleef6752He’s not in a corner though. If he were to withdraw from Ukraine, he’d be humiliated, and his regime security would suffer, but he might survive it just because Ruzzians would be glad to be done with it. The only question then is whether it would be death by incineration, or death by gunshot/window at the hands of his own officials, who most likely aren’t suicidal. And neither is Putin.
If you've ever watched the Olympics, specifically the Curling sport and seen the sweepers frantically sweeping the path ahead of the curling stone, THAT is what it looks like in the Kremlin when Putin and his dingalings are frantically redrawing their red lines further and further back as their adversaries push ever onward.

It is curious how a nation, rife with corruption, and with a GDP no larger than Spain could somehow maintain such a large military, a large nuclear arsenal, and a large bloated bureaucratic state.
For as long as nuclear weapons have existed, the nuclear risk has been nonzero. For as long as nuclear weapons continue to exist, the nuclear risk will be nonzero. A state of zero nuclear risk is impossible without the decommissioning of all nuclear weapons. This revision does little to nothing to elevate the nuclear risk. It's another bluff.
You don’t need to ask such a ridiculous question…instead you should be asking *when does the virtue-signaller (Ukraine) stop its narcissistic NATO enabled gaslighting of its nuclear armed neighbor peaceful neighbor?*

Only real "RED LINE" in Russia is the Putin's red face when he stares into mirror, crying and moaning why nobody takes his whining seriously, no matter how big of a boy he tries to be.
In Russia there are many lines. The lines shift and multiply randomly. All of them have been painted red. Only one or two of them activate a nuclear response at any given time.
The response to this new policy ought to be the extension of sanctions in the language of the nuclear policy - ie we ought to expand sanctions to India and China for providing financial support to Russia by purchasing oil.
I do not intend to sound flippant about such a severe threat; however, to allow Russia, or any country, to win a nuclear war without firing a shot is insane. Not only does it encourage aggression, but more dangerously, it will cause all-out proliferation, for obvious reasons. Comfortable and great looking sweater by the way.
"You can have no conflict without being yourselves the aggressor" - Abraham Lincoln's message through the ages to Putin. Adding the word "nuclear" seems redundant.
Russia : "Let us do what we want or we will start world war three." How do you combat such a mindset? Simple, you call their bluff and tell them to grow up. This situation puts me in mind of a thief who has been caught stealing, and they continue to steal while telling the policeman that they will firebomb his house if he tries to stop them stealing. Does the policeman allow this behaviour or does he do his job?
As Rumsfeld was once derided for saying, although succinctly and correctly: "There are known knowns. These are things we know that we know. There are known unknowns. That is to say, there are things that we know we don't know. But there are also unknown unknowns. There are things we don't know we don't know."
@@migmarfin It wasn't particularly clumsy, certainly not by the standards of WH language in the last 20 years, but there was a *desire* to deride, so derision occured.
Yes, right. For the mushroom cloud fears, please say exactly what Putin would attack with a tactical nuke, much less a larger warhead? The US has already pledged that if Putin uses one, of any type, all the conventional restraints come off, NATO will go after Russian conventional forces with air power, full throttle. We'll then learn who has or doesn't the technological edge in detection, electronic jamming and inventory delivery...the last time the US has "tested" forces like these has been in Iraq, perhaps Syria, and attacking the Houthis, which is very different than going up against Russia inside Russian itself. Putin doesn't dare use any type of nuike against the West, even the edge of the Baltics or Moldavia. Much more likely he is to release some fires and explosions at even more sensitive sites - please note, pacificsts - than he has already attacked across Eastern and Western Europe: s torage depots, factories and arms trader stockpiles all involved with provisioning Ukraine in one way or the other.
Trump has said he will disband NATO. Well at least the US can leave. That leaves a crash program in rearming preferably without US weapons and mass production of tactical and strategic nuclear weapons. It is going to leave Putin a window of opportunity to use nukes and rely on Western dithering.
What putin is saying (yes the small letter in his name is intentional) is "Let me win or nukes!!!" It doesn't at all mean nukes will fly because of missiles without nukes in them.
Mentioned it under previous video, the problem inherent to policy U-turns is that only one of the policies can be correct, either it wasn't a problem all along and he has to explain to Ukrainians why he witheld the missile use or he was right all along and owes explanation to all of us once our Geiger counters chill a bit. And any of those reasons should be better than petty electoral ones
How about Europe growing a bit of spine and creating a coalition of the willing from among those nations whose leadership show some courage? Bring together a number of brigades of troops on rotation and go help an exhausted friendly neighbor, who is desperately fighting for its survival from brutal attacks by an evil lunatic. Or is Europe waiting for Ukraine to fail, so you can fight this evil in the streets of your own cities?? Such positive action would have nothing to do with NATO. In fact, the dithering attitude of the NATO alliance is deeply disturbing.
Vlad just calmly explaining to his anxiety ridden audience why they shouldn't be concerned that Russia has just updated their doctrine on the use of Nuclear weapons as a response to the US allowing Ukraine the use of missiles inside Russia.
Thanks BB lad. Zelensky has made it clear if be ruzz uses nukes they will get a response in kind. Ukr probably already has some form of nuclear weapons, either a dirty bomb or a neutron bomb. If you have a nuclear industry, the technology isn't that hard.
Just got home from work, to this video, what a nice surprise. Im not too big on nuclear risk management. At best we draw the risk out for longer. Also, was the nuclear risk ever really 0 since 1945?
I'm not an expert in any way so this is just my thoughts. Putin has a nuclear red line when it comes to regime security, I can see that. Although, in the Ukraine war, I can't see any situation were Putin using nuclear weapons improves his regime security when totaling up different factors. For example I think there is a possibility that China, after Putin using nuclear weapons, says " That's it, now you are on your own". Such Chinese statement has to be a huge negative for regime security.
There’s no scenario where nuclear weapons would increase his regime security unless he was nearly certain that there would be no response from NATO. In most scenarios where he uses nukes, the chain of events ends with him incinerated or defenestrated.
I paused at the minute forty mark to say this: I personally do not care what Putin says on a piece of paper about when Russia can and can not use nuclear weapons. He has in my lifetime used the nuclear threat in Ukraine 2014, Syria (2016?) And at least again in Ukraine 2022. By just the mere threat of nukes he gained more advantage on the ground than theoretically any actual nuke would provide. And that was fine with the rest of the world as his actions were sudden, intense, and not enough to be considered a large enough threat of land grab for the rest of the world to need to respond. I believe Putin fails to see that he has crossed a red line with the world in 2022. He has actively invaded a democratic nation that never posed any military threat to Russia. This is a greater damage to world order than the American invasion of Iraq 2003. Based on Putins history, I believe him to be as likely to use a nuke today as he was back pre-feb 2022. That is to say. He may use one if he is severely unhappy with the situation on the ground, so there must be a global effort to confirm a nuclear attack by Russia, would be the end of him.
Politically, I believe this is a great time for Biden's decision. Not only does it help Ukraine stop the Russian offensive for the winter, but does anyone really think that Putin will have a significant reaction when his pal Trump will put an end to this in two months? If he does, it will provide Trump with a difficult problem to deal with on the first day he steps into office.
I don't know if a person is insane when a person has selective memory but has Putin forgotten the West has nukes too? And did Western leaders forget we have them also? Maybe it is long co v id?
Russia is yet to start actually losing, meaning in a sort of a classic movie like collapse of their front lines - I think that is the greatest precursor to nuclear war, the idea has been put out in the public sphere, it has been relatively normalized, so, once and if we seen Ukrainian tanks rolling over Russian trenches we truly won't know what kind of conflict this is. also, nuclear war is a strong word, nuclear deployment would be a better term.
As long as NATO makes it clear that the use of nukes in Ukraine would incur a massive military response, then there’s basically no chance of nukes being used for anything that happens in Ukraine, short of Ukraine using nukes. Ruzzia using nukes would convert a humiliating defeat into an utter annihilation of its military capacity. Also, China and perhaps Iran would withdraw support, and India would break off relations and stop buying oil. Ruzzia would collapse. Putin knows there’s basically no scenario where nukes improve his situation, and many scenarios where using them results in his incineration or defenestration. Since he’s not suicidal, he won’t use them. Even a humiliating defeat would be more survivable than a nuclear war.
He is just saying he is going nuclear so when he doesn't, he can do so in response to something Trump does, which makes Trump look awesome, and Trump is a Russian agent.
It's raining, i'm changing the nuclear doctrine!! It's dry again... .... I'll change the nuclear doctrine!! Come alreadybwhen hebis actually going to do something, i want to see the crater where there used to be a launcing site.😂 Come on Putin walk the walk!!

Vlad will do nothing nuclear, his bestie is taking office in 2 months
to help him out.
SWING BRO. SWING. SWINGGGGGG
Who is he gonna nuke?
Politically, I believe this is a great time for Biden's decision. Not only does it help Ukraine stop the Russian offensive for the winter, but does anyone really think that Putin will have a significant reaction when his pal Trump will put an end to this in two months? If he does, it will provide Trump with a difficult problem to deal with on the first day he steps into office.
I don't know if a person is insane when a person has selective memory but has Putin forgotten the West has nukes too? And did Western leaders forget we have them also? Maybe it is long co v id?
China won't let him ruin their markets.
Thanks as always Vlad!
Little man barking.
He is just saying he is going nuclear so when he doesn't, he can do so in response to something Trump does, which makes Trump look awesome, and Trump is a Russian agent.
nuclear war is bad
It's raining, i'm changing the nuclear doctrine!!
It's dry again...
.... I'll change the nuclear doctrine!!

I appreciate your view Vlad, it has way more nuance then most people.
Thank you, for taking care of us…:)❤
The problem is, what will Putin do. When all his conventional toys are broken.
He'll won't have time to do anything because he's gonna be busy being dragged through the streets by his previous buddies.
