I was almost 6 when this aired and I remember these all very vividly. Damn, it’s a shame what happened to Nickelodeon. I think by 1990, The Mysterious City of Gold wasn’t airing anymore. I used to love that.

I didn't have cable for another 10 years, but I do remember catching these Nickelodeon shows when I would get a chance, like at my aunt's house. I can even remember the Maya the Bee theme song to this day. Such nostalgia! ^_^

OMG. I remember the Sally Struthers commercials (both ICS and the Feed the Children/Christian’s Children Fund). They aired a lot on Nickelodeon which confused me as a kid. I also remember that the Lynda Carter LensCrafters commercial was a frequent ad spot.

It's nice to see that this volume of Nick Jr commercials contains mostly promos for the shows they had on the station back then. It's a far cry from the shows they show nowadays on Nick Jr, which are mostly cookie cutter, lackluster and above all, made for purely entertainment and to sell toys. No education to be found, as far as I can tell. Back then, I feel like there was a far greater variety of shows that clearly had a lot of care of thought put into them. Shows like "David The Gnome" and "Eureka's Castle" were not only entertaining, but they also taught lessons that can be applied to every day life. Shame to see shows don't have things like that to offer kids nowadays.

Jackie Chan's Action Kung Fu doesn't get much attention, but I picked up a Complete in Box copy a few months ago, and fell in love with it. It's not overly difficult, but the graphics and music are amazing for NES, and it's just so much fun. It's unfortunately getting kind of expensive (as are a lot of great retro games), but it's worth seeking out if you are into classic games and never tried it.

This was my toddlerhood! I remember Grimm’s Fairy Tale Classics, Maya the Bee, Adventures of Little Koala, The Noozles, The Little Bits, Eureka’s Castle, and David the Gnome. With th exception of Eureka’s Castle and David the Gnome, I believe the rest were anime.

I loved the Elephant Show too. I remember seeing Sharon, Lois, and Bram at the Kentucky State Fair in 1993 (I believe). RIP Lois.

David The Gnome wasn’t anime but the cartoon actually originated from Spain and was localized like all of the anime shows. Nickelodeon played a LOT of foreign animation back then.

@@80sCommercialVault I think it was a case where a lot of European studios like the anime-esque look because they had a stronger relationship with Japanese studios at the time. That is why so many modern French cartoons can ape anime-equse styles without even trying.
American cartoons still needed another 10 or so years to catch up on that front.

I didn't have cable until 2000, but I can remember watching these cartoons when I would vacation at my aunt's house. I can still sing the Skinamarink song too. :) I may have been in my adolescence by then, but I still enjoyed them.

My God, does this bring back the memories. I suspect Nick Jr. fulfilled the desires of many a budding anime fan back then.
Also, that ICS promo was the first place I ever heard of Sally Struthers. I can't watch an episode of "All in the Family" to this day without thinking, "Do you want to make more money? Sure, we all do!"

I watched all these shows on "Nick Jr." back when I was 3 and 4. I might have watch "Maya The Bee" a little earlier but that was before a month later when I moved to a new place and didn't have cable there until October, 1993 at another house.

I had no idea they'd show the short subject films in between shows during the Nick Jr. blocks! The Sports Cartoons were the most well known then I thought about the ones they'd show from International Rocketship Limited out of Canada and then here it is! That was the one they'd show the most! There's so many more because they had the time to show them due to their "Limited Commercial Interruptions!"
Plus Jackie Chan's Action Kung Fu on the NES didn't disappoint either - the commercial and the game!

Never expected to see a commercial for Jackie Chan's Action Kung-Fu. The bee animation at the end was a staple of Hudon Soft's Japanese ads, so it's interesting to see it here.
