Lament for a Ruined Kingdom - Day 20 | 30-Day Composition Challenge (Theme: Kingdom Has Fallen)

This was written for Day 20 of Ryan Leach's "2022 Theme of the Day Challenge" where I'll compose one piece per day for the entirety of June. The prompt for June 20th was "Kingdom Has Fallen", though I had to catch up from the previous day's delays. I tried conveying a forlorn desolate feeling at the beginning with some hemiola/syncopation sandwiched in between. Towards the middle and end there is a massive emotional buildup based on the themes presented in the beginning, perhaps conveying grief or a strong emotion tugging at one’s heartstrings.
