I recently watched Blood Sport with my 13 year old son. (Thanks Covid). He loved it. I wasn't sure if it would hold up. He liked Blood Sport as much as I did when I was 13.
I wasn't a big Bruce Lee fan because I thought his movies where to comical. Van Damme movies where way more realistic for me. So I watched them all the time.
Oh what IRONY!!! Are you telling me that the actor who played Hossein and is FAMOUS for the line, "Now I show you trick or two", went on to become a magician? LMAO!
When I was about 8-9 years old I was waiting for this movie to start on tv....I was so excited that I started to do karate moves off the couch. I jumped off the couch and snapped my left arm in half. I went to the hospital and had it put in a cast. I came home hours later and turned on the tv and blood sport was on! It was a good day.

Steve Henry Daw is an Australian. In the early 80s he moved to HK and worked as a physical instructor in YMCA ( Tsim Sha Tsui ) . He was a 2nd degree karate blackbelt ( Uechi~Chi Ryu Karate~do ) an auxiliary police officer , and also runs a talents hunter agency then in his leisure time. He now lives in Malaysia and tends to return to Australia bythe end of the year. A 4th degree blackbelt tillvnow.
@@VikingSamurai Just a quick update and further bit of info. Steve trained in Uechi Ryu Karate Do in Whyalla South Australia 1974 to 1979, Steve was a very athletic and a gymnast hence the back flips in the movies :-)
From the first time when I watched Bloodsport and saw the scene where Bolo Young's Chong Li character breaks the first opponent he faced neck, I would tease my mind into thinking that opponent reminded him of Bruce Lee, whom he must have harboured hatred for since that Enter The Dragon movie, so killing that opponent quickly was an act of vengeance. I know it's weird, but honestly that always came to my mind. 😋
Samson Li from what I heard was a homage to Bruce Lee (only just) because of Bolo being in Enter: The Dragon, that's why he has the JKD style and the flexes......but as many would realise, nobody could pay homage to Bruce.......Nobody is that damn good.
Another great video about this JCVD classic. I always read many historys about the "Bloodsport" figther, such many does guys was professional dancers and stuntmans."Poor Man Dalton" Fuckink awesome!!!
Dear Viking Samurai, after some investigation I found out that the karateka fighter who gets ko by Jackson in the second fight is called Cotard (no first name), fighter from France, and is played by Rick Erikson (billed at the end of the movie). The kung fu guy thrown out of the tatami by Jackson is reported correctly, the actor's name, but in the movie you can catch a quick glimpse on the board and is spelled Tse Hin Kung. As for the mouthguard guy, he is in fact listed in the credits (Paul Findley), but after further investigation I bumped in a behind the scenes pic of his fight, and on the board it says "Paul Finley". Last, I believe (not 100% sure though) that the orange short pants guy kicked repeatedly by JC is in fact Mark Sharrock. Hope this helps. Ps please get Donald Gibb on the show! Keep up the good work.
one of the things that most American filmgoers do not understand about the Chinese language is that there are 7 main dialects of the language with most of them being regional. This leads to different names being used by actors as the tradition in Some Asian countries is you have your name is something they already have a word for in the language. Take the name Zhang Wei which is literally meaning great. In another dialect, it would be Wang Wei also meaning great. This also gets further complicated as some martial artists have an English name to further appeal to western audiences.
I still enjoy these videos. Any chance you can make condensed version that recaps the cast? I wonder whatever happened to the other characters (A.P George) as the referee; the manager, OK USA guy, the HK Inspector, the singers of the soundtrack, etc. It's a lot to ask but your channel is the appropriate one for this request.
@@VikingSamurai Thank you kind sir. The character of the inspector is still alive but no longer acting as per Wikipedia. No more info on the referee. HBO Max is currently playing Bloodsport.
Frank Dux has several photos from the Bloodsport set on his site. One shows that Ray's first opponent is named Marc Cotard. He is a French savate fighter. Played by Erik Erickson. The orange shorts guy might be Mark Sharrock. The site has a photo of the scoreboard, showing Sharrock vs. Dux. Dux breaks his own world record (one-tenth of a second faster than his fight against Hossein).
Bro, awesome vid. Been waiting years to find out who these fighters are. Just found the Facebook account for one of them (which you'll probably cover in your second video). As for the multiple names for the Chinese actors, I chalk that up to multiple Romanizations for Cantonese and Mandarin version of the names. For example, Lam Shung-Ching is the Cantonese version of the name while Lin Chung-Cheng OR Lin Tsung-Cheng could be seen as the Romanizations of the Mandarin version of the name.
