I love this so much!! The whole music video is just so beautiful, aesthetic, artistic, and symbolic.
Taehyung and his amazing dancing and beautiful soulful vocals. He looks so handsome and cool too. I love the choreography so much. The beginning dance where Taehyung look like he is dancing with a girl or a person, but it actually not the case had me fangirl. The dance look so passionate and just amazing.

There are theories about how Tae is being depicted as Narcissus, a hunter born from a river god. He was cursed to love the first person he saw, and since his father being a river god, he stumbled upon a body of water where he saw his own reflection and inevitably fell in love with himself. This could explain the lyrics “I dumped myself into the lake” because he loved his reflection so much. However this doesn’t explain the masks, but I think those stand for the theme of fake love that’s going on
yes this I think is the correct concept!! this video doesn't have the BU "bangtan Universe" symbol as the rest of HYHH videos do. So this video has it's own concept...probably tied in with all the fake love theme.

not do sound rude but please don't compare to other kpop acts, the meaning of the mask here is completely different and symbolizes hiding your true self in order to be loved and accepted, the whole thing has more of a phantom of the opera vibes than GD or whatever

this one doesn't have the "bangan universe" symbol however, so this is just it's own video concept like serendipity. The lyrics relate to the fake love theme of this upcoming album though.. And if you read Outro: her from the last album..they hint stuff about fake love and wearing masks...so it goes perfectly!

Well, the only thing I can tell is watch again with subs on. But the song is about loss and a black tear is symbolism of losing someone important and special in one's life. People often think when they see with tear tatts it's for killing someone when it's the exact opposite. It's for loss.

I’ll get to my theory for a moment but the flower Tae was holding a smeraldo it isn’t a real flower so it’s fake and it also means a truth that can’t be told. There’s also how some scenes shows two different paintings one was where Tae was looking at himself which goes to ly highlight reel photos or the painting where (I forgot what’s it called or who it was ) but it was someone who loved them self so much they threw them self in the lake. And the other is from Ophelia painted by Millais which is where Tae was surrounded by flowers. Also the mask shows it’s fake and black tears means loosing someone close or dear to u, and if a tear falls from the left side it means unhappiness. Also the mask and tears thing can also be from SingularGhibli
Overall for me is that how Tae has two different personality one is that something like how in the i need u MV is the father, like how The other Tae is aggressive like that and the other is soft so he buried himself(the aggressive one) in the lake and ice started forming(if u read the lyrics, subtitles) so he puts on a “mask” ( another version of him) but it’s starting to come out again which is like his Stigma.

BASICALLY IT'S A REALLY DARK ROOM/BOX/BACKGROUND WITH DANCERS WEARING A FULL BLACK BODYSUIT THAT COVERS THEIR FACE AND THOSE DANCERS ARE SIMPLY WEARING/HOLDING THE MASK AND ONLY TAE CAN BE SEEN BECAUSE HE'S NOT WEARING BLACK. ALSO WHEN TAE LETS GO OF THE ROSE, IT'S NOT REALLY FLOATING AWAY FROM HIM, HE LITERALLY JUST PASSED IT TO ONE OF THE DANCERS AND THE JUST HELD IT AND MOVED IT AWAY FROM HIM (EVEN THEIR FINGERS ARE COVERED, IMAGINE THE WHOLE BODY COVERED LIKE A GLOVE)

I just like to say that this is all based on twitter, these theories that I’ll be commenting. Hope I helped you.
According to most theories: Taehyung has two selves. His possessed self ( the self where he was possessed by the devil like in Blood Sweat and Tears ) and his normal self. The thing you saw in the beginning of the video, where Tae’s hand was in a coat, that was his possessed self trying to control his real self.
The English Lyrics are:
“ If I shouldn’t have thrown myself away “
“ What was I supposed to do back then? “
This means that Taehyung is now aware that there’s two of him. He regrets the fact that he hurt his hyungs and Jungkook by allowing himself to be possessed.
At the end, Taehyung wore a mask when he cried but when Jungkook cried in 2017 Wings Trilogy Trailer, he didn’t wear a mask. So did Jimin and the statue in Blood Sweat and Tears. This somewhat indicates that Taehyung ( possessed self ) is just faking the fact that he’s hurt. He wants to lure a member to him and break him ( just like what he did in Blood Sweat and Tears with Jin and the statue )
The flower he’s holding is a “ Smeraldo “ flower, a Smeraldo flower is a flower that does not exist in reality. The meaning of the flower is “ the truth I can’t tell “.
Some people think this is connected to Seokjin. That’s why Seokjin keeps holding flowers. The majority of the people ( and so do I ) think that Seokjin holds so many flowers ( a smeraldo is counted ) because he can’t admit the fact that he hit Jungkook in that car accident.
If you remember in Euphoria, at the end, there was this “ hyung, are you hiding something “ then it shows a clip of Jungkook getting hit by a car? Majority of the people think that the “ hyung “ is Seokjin and the one asking that question is one of the younger members besides Jungkook. In a HYYH note that Bighit posted, Seokjin wrote that he went for a drive / took his car out on May 22, but that’s also the same day Jungkook got in a car accident. Seems pretty unusual if it were a coincidence, right?

Not gonna lie I got annoyed every time the one in the back mentioned G-Dragon. First of all I don't understand what he is talking about since I never have seen the mv he is speaking about. At least since it was GD I aknowledge that his mask probably had a deeper meaning than just "woahhh that looks cool, let's use is!". For non kPop fans like me it reminded me more of everything between 18th century masquerade balls up until modern cinema like V for Vendetta.
Well at least our dear Antis have something to refer to if they try to slander BTS again since god forbid BTS uses something similar that Korean citizen a, b or c used in something they published. **sigh**
*About theories: Well it is a bit soon to already speculate but my best guess at the moment is that it is the broader theme of self-deception and the need of humans to create a "Persona" according to Carl Jung.*

I don't think "Fake Love" is actually a rumour. They literally told us all the names of the "chapters" including the correlating songs as well as the title track for this album in their Melon performance. ^.^
That's what a Persona is. It doesn't represent us but what society expect us to be. We put up a Persona to be loved and accepted by other people out of fear that we don't fit their expectations but even if people love this Persona they don't love our actual self. A simple example would be that we just don't tell people how we actually feel/think about a topic because we believe they would dislike us for it and rarely anyone wants to be disliked. We have the inborn drive to make people like us even if they just like a facade.
the thing he meant about gd was that he had a similar concept going on with masks but where bts is (sort of) veering into fakeness(?) like so far that's what the theories suggest like fake love, fake self etc, gd was more about political uprising(?) or just uprising in general, like two faced harvey dent-ish stuff i think. a good mv would gd's coup d'etat - the masks are aplenty there. also, please don't bash me if this is all wrong lol

Like gd doesn't own his own concept of wearing a mask, a lot of film, movie, mv and songs also include mask before so y can Bts use the mask? Everyone can use mask for the mv and this song is not even same with gd's one.
