Not everyone with a degree can be considered a good physician so here is to parents who advocate for their children and physician heroes who look beyond the obvious. The fact that he is of Syrian origins and education is a blow to all those who prevent such brilliant minds from immigrating to our country.
We both know there is a right way and a wrong way to enter this country, legal and illegal as with crossing the border in any country. US border has been insanely abused, but I'm sure this wonderfully intelligent doctor came to the US the legal way and with great respect for our America and of himself. 1:57

I understand that Syrians in the comment section are proud of a person representing their country in the most honorable way possible. Still, all this pointing out that he's Syrian is a bit cringy.
Yes, I celebrate every skilled and empathic person, no matter their nationality. Still, I cringe whenever people bring up nationality where it has no relevance. It's just a way for to associate themselves with other people's success, when they in fact had no involvement. My fellow country men do this all the time, and I find it embarrassing.

I'm syrian and I totally agree. Not all of us brag about our fellow compatriots' work though neither about our ancestors' inventions, contributions, discoveries etc... Plus, I think there's a need to say that syria is not really an islamic country , it doesn't follow the sharia law .It's a secular country where christians have their own laws and there's a lot of atheists or non practitioners muslims.
But sometimes, when ignorant people accuse us of being uncivilised and stupid, it is only right to give them some general knowledge.
Islam is a religion, not a state, and it is present on all five continents. Do you want to tell me that Saudi Arabia applies Islamic law, then what about Iran, which is considered an enemy to it as well. Syria’s laws are also derived from Islamic law. Every country has its own view of the law. Did you not ask yourself why the president he must be a Muslim in Syria. As for the special provisions for Christians, they are part of Islamic law that allows non-Muslims to be judged for what they believe in

Steve Jobs was an Arab. His parents were Syrian. The man was a major pioneer of PCs. Whether you like it or not, Islam was highly enlightened when Europe was in the Dark Ages. Algebra was invented by Muslim scholars; and many other significant scientific discoveries were made in the Muslim world. However, today the Arab and Muslim world is not that same world of enlightenment. Politically, the area is relatively primitive lacking representational governments. The appalling violence perpetrated by fanatics within the Islamic religion who oppose modernity( certainly not every Muslim nor a majority of Muslims) keeps the region mired in a regressive state. Evidence that Islam, like the process of reformation Christianity underwent, is in serious need of a serious Reformation.
I'm not anti-Arab nor anti-Muslim, however, there is no scientific evidence that Arabs or Muslims are smarter than anyone else. If anything, the Arab/Muslim world owes itself to do much better than its recent past has shown. It needs secular government.....and democratic representational government. The fact that today the Middle East is still ruled by monarchs and dictatorships.....shows that it has a ways to come yet to the modern 21st century. And groups like Al Queda and ISIS, needless to say, do tremendous damage to Muslim credibility in the modern world.....and begs the question: can conservative Islam reconcile with modernity?
