  • Here's one of my favorite ways to cook squirrels. This is my kid's favorite meal!! It's simple with very few ingredients involved. You can use this same method with whole ducks or turkey leg quarters. This is a great way to cook old squirrels so that they are tender enough to enjoy eating. It takes a little time but the end result never fails to impress even the pickiest of eaters! Thanks for watching and I hope you try this recipe!!

I soak mine in buttermilk. The acidity tenderizes it and milk allows the flour to stick good

I'am going to try some thing different on fried squirrel. Going to soak it in a HEAVY baking soda brine over night. IT SHOULD make the meat tender, juicy, and delicious. > Cause i do steaks and pork chops this way! Once out of the brine. RISEN IT OFF GOOD, IN WARM WATER. You can see, and feel the pour on the, chop and steaks open up > Pat dry. i like to use melted butter all over it , then season it> Pork chops i use ground cinnamon, and chicken bouillon with my seasonings, On steaks beef bouillon and my seasonings. Let it hang out for a hour to soak up the seasoning. Then i take them out to the pit and smoke it. Then flame broil them YUM Some time they drink up the oil or butter > just brush some more on them. Give them a good glaze

I do it that way but I add a corn starch or flour mixture to form a little gravy and scoop it onto mashed potatoes, I don’t make it to thick but man is it delicious

We put the cooked squirrels in ice water mix, pick the meat off the bone a lot easier on the fingers. Looks great IMHO.👍👍👍

Yea Dad fry's them in an electric skillet ( spices to taste ) till crunchy , then drains it and steams them in a bit of water with lid on adding as needed till they fall off the bone . Brown Gravy, mashed Tators and corn . Yummo

How do you prep your squirrel before cooking? Soak? Brine?

I soak mine in saltwater over night. Definitely helps with the taste!!

Should just be skin, rinse well to get all that hair off, and toss in the pot.

How many squirrels did you use here? I have several in the freezer, but I'm not sure if I should go out to get more

26 grinds of salt. I hope your blood pressure is ok. Are you from Arkansas? I saw the Red River ad and living in Little Rock, I'm familiar with Red River.

115 over 70. BP not a problem. Shaker doesn't put much out at all. Thanks for watching!
