Thank you, I am looking for an arrangement for solo shakuhachi to precede a western choir version..I will try this one.

When you crack the ro slightly in the first line, do you also meri downward, or should the note pop in without the meri move? Is half holing always accompanied with a meri move? Thanks, Steven!

Usually half holing is also accompanied by the head movement too…

How do I know which note is high?

When you go from ri to ro it will usually go to the higher ro. There are also the signs of otsu 乙 (lower octave) and kan 甲 (upper octave), which are not used in this example.

@@KochikuShakuhachi I guess I have done something terribly wrong. I initially loved the lower Ro (D2).
So i tried to get this sound right. Now I have problems to get the higher Ro (D3).
As you mentioned it is really easier to get the higher Ro when coming from Ri.
But why??? Is it some micro-muscle-posture you are already in, by blowing Ri???
What can I do? Robuki in KAN exclusively? Switching between Otsu and Kan till it is second nature?
And is Otsu really in the D2 register. I have read, three octaves are possible with my Shakuhachi. Is the third octave above Kan?
