Theon: "Hey Dad, the son of the most powerful house in the North loves me like a brother, and if we ally with him, he'll help us conquer the Westerlands, you know, that kingdom with all the f**king *GOLD* comes from?" Balon: _"HERP DERP!_ No one gives me a crown, we're invading the giant, frozen kingdom with no commercial resources a single port, because I hate Ned Stark!"
I really appreciate your geography-oriented content because I feel like GRRM doesn't do a great job of painting a picture of the various places he writes about. Case in point: King's Landing, which features heavily in the story, remains a bit of a mystery as far as city layout
By looking at those great bulidings and structures, you can say how much the kingdoms of Westeros have devolved both in culture and technology. Kind of like what happened in Europe after the fall of the roman empire.
The Manderly's were never defeated by the Starks. Actually they originated in the Reach but lost all their land to a rival house, the Starks then offered them a fort where White Harbour is now, saving their house, which the Manderly's remain grateful for.
CivilizationEx your videos always focus on facts of the books. Maybe It's not a bad idea to give some space for theories in your channel, but with caution
I have a series I did awhile ago just focusing on theories, there's like 6 or 7 parts too it I covered a lot. I've thought about doing more but the history aspect of GRRM's world I find more interesting then theories, so I tend to focus on that. :)
I wonder if Gaemon really was a targaryen, after all if he really wasn't then why kill his mother but not him? Maybe they killer her bc only she knew that he was a targaryen bastard, and kept him alive just in case he was needed.
It's possible, she claimed his father was from Lys but she would have said anything to spare her son and Aegon was known to go to prostitutes, so who knows. Out of the 3, Gaemon/Sylvenna actually had some decent policy ideas lol.
CivilizationEx I mean if it have to force someone to say something it makes you wonder if that's the truth or not. Early in the witcher 2 there's a character (either this one lady or her son, depending on what you did earlier) who's being tortured and you find a message where they "confess" that the mothers two younger kids are the older sons bastards. Ppl would've believed that if that became public knowledge bc it would've been her confession.
What about Duskendale and Maidenpool. I know King’s Landings and Gulltown took a lot of trade away but they should at least be the equal to White Harbor.
The foundation of the Hightower is a fortress of black stone of uncertain origin on Battle Isle. The stone is reminiscent of Valyrian roads and the Black Walls of Volantis. A possible Valyrian origin is supported by the claim of Maester Jellicoe that Oldtown began as a trading post for ships of Valyria, Old Ghis, and the Summer Isles, predating the arrival of the First Men to Westeros. Septon Barth claimed Valyrians came to Westeros because their priests prophesied that the Doom of Man would come out of the land beyond the narrow sea. In contrast to the Valyrian theory, Archmaester Quillion suggests the fortress was made by the mazemakers. Maester Theron suggests it was created by Deep Ones, citing its similarities to the Seastone Chair. Some smallfolk believe the Hightower simply appeared. This information is from A Wiki of Ice and Fire.
I'm going to start back with Star Trek vids at the beginning of next month with a vid about the Ferengi. I have not decided whether to cover the Discovery show because I have a feeling it's going to be terrible, lol. But I will give it a chance and if I like it, I will do videos about it, but I will always primarily focus on old star trek (TNG, DS9 my favs) cause a lot of the new stuff like the JJ Abrams movies I am not a big fan of.
awesome, ive got a feeling discovery is gonna be terrible aswell, really hope it doesnt fuck with the lore too much, i mean the bloody main captain is supposed to be spocks adoptive sister who we've never heard of before..
Intersting, Winterfell has 2 sets of walls and inner walls. It is such a big fortress that for me it is impossible to belive that Winterfell it's just a simple castle like any other castle. I thought that it is something more than this, a city for example, or at least a town.
Theon: "Hey Dad, the son of the most powerful house in the North loves me like a brother, and if we ally with him, he'll help us conquer the Westerlands, you know, that kingdom with all the f**king *GOLD* comes from?"
Balon: _"HERP DERP!_ No one gives me a crown, we're invading the giant, frozen kingdom with no commercial resources a single port, because I hate Ned Stark!"
Well, when you put it in that way... You just realize how stupid and haughty Balon was.
THIS!!!! A THOUSAND TIMES THIS!!! One for each king on the isle of a thousand kings
...and that port ain't even on their side of the continent.

Rodrigo Lanas they have a map of it in A clash of Kings....
The mysterious geographical aspects are part of the overall story.
Which is why I prefer Tolkien
A world of ice and Fire is far better than AcoK especially since 3.6
Story is more important than a geography lesson of the city layout.
I love and rewatch your videos man. You're my favourite asoiaf lore youtuber.
13:50 Spitfires? YES YE SOUTHERN CHAPS, HEAR THE ROAR OF MY MERLIN ENGINES

Kings landing was built in the current era and its got plenty of impressive buildings.
Did you mean Gothic?
U have to love these houses and lords like the manderly whom despite their Lords of house stark being killed but they still loyalist to them.
The Manderly's were never defeated by the Starks. Actually they originated in the Reach but lost all their land to a rival house, the Starks then offered them a fort where White Harbour is now, saving their house, which the Manderly's remain grateful for.
You didn't mention how each city smells.
He did
King's Landing: crap
Oldtown: crap of unknown origin
Gulltown: bird crap
Lannisport: Lannister crap
White Harbor: Wyman Manderly's 15th feast that day, also crap
Another great video! Keep it up!

Do you think there is enough info to do a video on the deep ones?
Only if you include some theories as well, I think.

how did they put foundation for such a tall tower on top of the black stone?

highgarden to high up for it to be seen.
