8:30 47th week of 1963? As a young lad, on Friday, November 22nd, I felt shock and disbelief at a level that would not be eclipsed until September 11, 2001. Each of us has experienced personal tragedy that has affected us more deeply. But as a nation, these events stunned us all simultaneously.

I was sitting in junior English class at duPont Jr Sr High School, when my history teacher stuck her head in the door and told us about the assassination. Really a stunner.

These, and the Princetons, have a different sound than the Reverb models ... they are wonderful.

Hey Lyle! One of these days it would be nice to see you do a show and tell of your favourite hand tools and tell us what you like about them. Personally, i"ve made better purchases by listening to experienced tradespeople explain what makes certain tools great and I'm curious about your take on things. Thanks!

Lyle's list of soldering gear doesn't mention the "Engineer" brand of manual solder-sucker he switched to recently.

Little piece of OCD trivia -- the cup washers for the back panel are from a later generation. They have the flat edges that don't cut into the tolex as the original type would. The original type cup washer can be seen in the view of the baffle board around 5:24

An old Oxford that has a basket that kind of looks like a Utah Coil, but it's an old Oxford. Back when that amp was new, both Jensen and Oxford speakers came in yellow or "gold" boxes with royal blue printing on them. The Oxford box had a blue ox on it. The Jensen box has blue trim with a few fleur de lis ornamentations on it, in blue, and the obvious words "Jensen Loud Speaker" on it, also in blue. Utah coil boxes were yellow or gold and red, and had Utah Coil printed in red ink several times in multiple lines, all running at a 45 degree angle. Those Utah Coil boxes really screamed for attention.

If only old Utah Coil speakers were as loud as their boxes.

Give your camera more credit. Those screen grid resistors do look crackly glazed & slightly overcooked to my eyes. Ouch, such a nice amp and the chassis has that big cludge dinger dent in it. I have faith that Lyle can make that chassis look as straight as anyone else can, regardless of the tools in the tool box. I bought some of those sheet metal pliers and found me some gently used yard sale Snap On duck bill pliers. Sadly I'd really like to have 3 pairs of those smooth jaw Snap On duck bill pliers, just not for $295. Vise grips with an old paperback book stuffed inside the jaws can work wonders too.

Please, please, please do a segment called, “Lyle, Love It Or Hate It”!
Adore what you do! You helped inspire me to start tinkering and I recently put a 5E3 kit together and am now hooked.
    My sincerest gratitude.

I have a 64 deluxe reverb. It looks very much like your deluxe. I bought it about 1980 for $200. I blew the original speaker and replaced it. Its been re-tubed twice, and I had the "death-cap" removed and a grounded cord installed.

I had a 67 Super with a nearly identical dent on the faceplate. I modified a cheap slide hammer to pull most of it out.
I wish I never sold that one. A literal barn find amp that sounded amazing.

It's a shame the chassis has the dent in it. I know it's pretty easy to straighten out the face plate. I didn't know the early black face amps didn't have the Fender logo on the grill cloth.

? I recently watched a video by Fryette amps about reforming the filter caps in his old fender concert. Is this a technique you would employ when you service amps? Pro's and con's of doing so? Maybe a video on the subject would be cool... Thanks...

That style of "Slo-blow" fuse, with the spiral filament wrapped around a central core (fiberglas?) appear to have been designed for resistance to sagging from shock and vibration during transport, or perhaps resistance to thermal failure from quick inrushes of current at turn-on. Probably a good choice for use in a tube amp, though 2 amps is definitely too high. I would hesitate to use a fuse rated higher than 25% over the value stated on the back panel.

Don't clean the chasis! Leo used to slather his amps in zinc oxide to make them more UV resistant...

You are right to be suspicious of those CC screen grid resistors. They look like the ones from CE distribution…total garbage. I purchased a bunch with the plan to use them on Fender repairs…all of them were way out of tolerance and look and feel and taste off almost like they are fake. I believe others, myself included notified them so not sure if they are still available…buyer beware. FYI I love and support CE, but this particular product is a fail.
