The Getaway is one of, if not, my favorite game of all time. I just hope one day we get anything relating to the franchise. Remake, remaster, sequel; anything would help us fans rejoice and relive one of the most loved games of all time.

It truly was the best gta had good cameos but this had such funny, original and realistic cut scenes and characters it’s one u will never skip a cut scene on for sure still to this day I turn off hud in games because they look so good with nothing on the screen I never realized that until the getaway. Thanks 🙏
I loved how the game had no mini map, and how you had to pay attention to the tail lights for directions it was so ahead of it’s time the immersion was top tier

Its amazing to see someone from the actual production of the game standing infront of us! You are a legend! But coming now from the future where any "rumor" of The Getaway coming back on new consols was cancelled is honestly sad. I understand actually the amount of time and of course money it would take and then to sales not be promissing would be a huge issue-but it would just be wonderfull to still have that piece of nostalgia and play it when wanted (I donated my ps2 and like 40 games back in 2015. to a shelter for young moms) but on newer consoles. Nevertheless thank you for keeping this nostalgia community still up and running and there is nothing but hope standing for one day to come back. Good luck on your new projects and this channel you deserve it 👏🏻
Im from ARGENTINA and i never going to regret buying a copy of THE GETAWAY. i remember being a 10/11 year kid and LOVING this game, the story and the dialogues was PERFECTION. Please give me a chance to thank you for your work, i recently download the pscx2 and i realize how good was the gameplay, the aiming is so pure that until today it feels like a movie

Love hearing you talk about this, I treasure my signed copy! Have not played it for a few years but looking at that footage feels like it was only yesterday. Definitely one of the better games on the Ps2, graphically, game play and story wise

Mind a remake or a HD remake but I agree a remake would probably be a better choice due to updates etc. After playing RE2 remake and GTA latest games I fully agree that the getaway would be an amazing experience for modern day console gamers. I loved the “British grand theft auto” and the fact I knew and recognised the cars.
Dude I just finished replaying both getaway games on the old ps2 after years of not playing them and its fair to say they still are in my list of favourite games. Absolutely brilliant! I would love a new Getaway game
my stepdad worked for team soho and worked on both getaway games, i remember he used to bring home random ps1 and ps2 games that were just in a side room to "borrow" he gave me a copy of the first game about a week before release and i played it to death, i got all the way to the final level on the boat but i just couldnt beat it until i spoke to Alan (my stepdad) about it and he told me if you stand next to a wall the character would lean against it and regain health, wish i new that on some of the earlier levels, he also told me that the person that voice acted the main character was the most arrogant person he has ever met in his now 20 plus years of working in game design
Man, I remember the only reason for getting a PS3 back in the day, was to play only 2 games, GTA IV & Getaway 3. Since the Getaway 3 never happened, I played Gangs of London on the PSP. Absolutely love the series and all the work you’ve put into it. It’s never too late for a comeback.

Whoa, I barely played any games on PS2, but I did beat The Getaway. I think I borrowed it from my friend, he was a huge car nut and he got me hooked on Driver/Driver 2 series, so naturally we would play The Getaway. Really cool you worked on it as well, it looked very well put together. If I remember there was a crazy fast car you could get in that game.

The getaway needs a solid remake! It was the weight of movement and driving, the shooting and no hud, it felt really immersive esoecially with all the real shop brands and cars
That Getaway bag is incredible!!! Also, interest in a game so long after its released--that's a solid sign of a damn fine game. Companies could learn a lot by paying attention to interest like this. I often look to licensing as being the first and largest hurdle for remasters when people wonder why "x" game isn't getting one. The story of the creation of Playstation Home is really neat--thank you for sharing! Ha ha--gotta cover your ass when it comes to the press and how they take things spoken of in the community--good thinking Mike!
My dad bought us a PS2 when I was a kid, and this game was the only one he'd actually play OVER and OVER. We didn't know about memory cards so we'd constantly replay the intro scene and see how far we'd get to in 1 go 😂
I got a PS2 way back in 2002/3, one of those and I got it specifically for one game, The Getaway. It had the same title as an outstanding dream I had back then and logged. Imagine my amazement when I finally got it and played it. The only game I ever needed. I had two others, but The Getaway is frankly, the best game ever conceived. I am so glad that it is considered a masterpiece and that there is so much talk about it all this time later. I am proud of my good taste. A remake for the Ps4/5 would be sensational. I would buy it in a second. I still have the ps2 by the way and because i have also let it go because I thought my time with it had come to an end, I bought it again three times. I have also played The Getaway 28 times. I still have a hunger to play it.

Would love to see a remaster. Playing it again now and it’s awesome. Haven’t played it since I was a young teenager so it’s really cool to revisit it. Especially now that I’ve been to London a bunch of times and can find my way around much easier.
Really well. Loved the story, it really got the feel of an English gangster movie down. There are some control issues in places, like when you’re in Charlie’s mansion with the laser beams. The camera was a bit dodgy there and just trying to turn around was a bit hard. That being said I adjusted to things pretty quickly. The city was awesome and so much work must have been put into it. It was really impressive what you could pull off on the ps2 especially in those early days. The graphics were mind blowing when I was a kid and now they are a bit old but there is still impressive texture work and the vehicles all look great. I can imagine if you were playing it for the first time nowadays it might not have aged as well. Being already familiar with the controls and things like the indicators on the cars telling you where to go, definitely made it easier to pick up again. I remember finding it hard as a kid but I pushed through and this time round I didn’t find it too hard at all. I’d be great to play it with HD textures and maybe a slight tweak to the controls to be able to turn on the spot easier. It’d be nice to be able to control the camera with the right stick as well. Of course these things are probably easier said than done. Had a blast playing through it again and will be playing through Black Monday again shortly.
Really sad that all of the licencing in The Getaway would be near impossible to get for a reboot of this game and it goes to show what kind of a world we live in now, and that never even occurred to me before. But a completely new remake does sound possible and that is quite exciting. I have even had dreams about The Getaway, (many actually), and I dreampt about new levels and different missions, so that would be amazing. Would be nice if it happened. You do seem like a massive The Getaway fan and I notice a lot your merchandise. Where did you get it? Also, fascinating that you are one of those who were involved in its production. I just wanted to take advantage of this opportunity, even though you may probably never read this, but I can at least say I said it, to say thanks for making and putting together the best game I have ever played. It might be only a game, but then it doesn't mean that it doesn't have to mean anything. Really pleased for the whole production team that this game became the classic it deserved and is so fondly remembered. Even to the idea of a remake. Thanks for The Getaway. I was the vehicle artist on both games and also helped on exterior design. So working at Sony I picked up all the marketing mech we released. A few months ago though I sold a large selection of the collection to pay for my obsession with Sega Mega Drive.
It terrible news and another huge blow for the industry. Tens of thousands of game developers are now out of work and with it any chance of some games ever coming out. I very much doubt we will see a new Getaway.
If I was some millionaire I’d produce this remake! I’d really change it up! Instead of the story being cut in two, I’d have it so once you’ve done a mission with mark you’ll then switch to frank. Even have a big part of the story putting these two characters against each other! Imagine a car chase but you’re chasing yourself, then the game switches to the other playable character and all of a sudden you’re trying to getaway! Stuff like that would be cool! Also a final showdown with Charlie would be good
What's funny is I ripped my Getaway a few days ago to use on my emulator and I'm looking up some stuff only to find this video. I hope there will be a Remaster, Getaway is great but the controls could use a bit of modernization lol
@@RetroGamerBoy it was mostly the lack of cam control on the right stick, touchy vehicles, and harder to fine tune character positioning. I'm enjoying it a lot so far, it feels like a movie. I'm close to beating it and will try the sequel for the first time. It seems pretty advanced game for a 2002 game
Remember playing for the fist time and being hooked. Was nice to play in my own country instead of somewhere made up or a city in the US. I really hope the game comes back. And hopefully not just for PS but PC also.
@@RetroGamerBoyI wouldn't be too pleased with that to be honest as I don't like paying subscriptions to play games. I'd prefer to buy games outright. I also only play PC now. But as long as the series returns I'd be happy. Was heartbroken when they cancelled Getaway 3.
We loved the getaway for what it was, give us that with today's graphics and controls and we'll be more that happy, because that's what we all actually want
The part about PS Home essentially being born out of The Getaway has blown my mind. I still remember accidentally discovering PS Home and how bizarre it seemed at the time.
They could change the brand of company and changed the car I mean look at what Watchdog Legion did to the city of London. Damn London look gorgeous in that game. I believed with the technology of today this game can get remake but the question is how will the fan react especially those who are unfamiliar with this game.

I remember spending hours everyday playing it even after finishing the game. And i was very dispointed and upset of the cancelation of the third installement the reason way i didnt buy the ps3. Considering how shows like peaky blinders, top boy, gangs of london(loosely based on the psp game i believe) and movies like the gentleman came out frequently its feels like a missed opportunity to not make a game like the getaway. It seems like the team is making a urban fantasy game in london which looks cool but disappointing they’re not making a new getaway title
thanks for this mate - hopefully if there ever is a remake, this video will serve to temper expectations so it can get a second start without people overhyping what can't be done without publishers knowing it's 100% wanted.
Call me crazy but I feel like Rockstar was heavily inspired by The Getaway during their development of GTA 4 because to me that game has some similarities and evokes a sense of The Getaway spirit when I play it.
I really hope they reboot it. Your explanation on the licenses really explains why it has not been remastered yet. Like you said very physically possible as emulation has shown on pc. I too have it on pc but the most annoying thing about the game is the controls.
Oh awesome, I was just researching this game because Karl Pilkington says he got it for a Xmas present from his girlfriend on the XFM radio show from early 2000s and it sounds like it was really cool! Plus it got censored in Australia so ya id like to play the original full release.

hey, i saw the video of the beta cars the collab you did with matt, in the Mini part the game looked more like a PS1 game, so my question, was the game originally developed for PS1? Or were they just using the PS1 graphics engine?
never played the getaway as it came out the year I was born n wasn't massively popular with my generation I guess. but I do know that with everyone wanting a London GTA and have so for the past few years, the getaway would be so popular
Maybe a new Getaway game could be a Steam version that Sony could license out and that could use the Unreal Engine. Perhaps even have a "D.Y.O.M" (Do Your Own Mission) mode and do Vigilante, Paramedic and Firefighter mode. Taxi and Bus driver modes would be good too.
Because The Getaway was better then GTA when it came out, and i think it would of been better then GTA today if they continued to develop it from 20 years ago, what a game!

I'd love to see a new The Getaway. With the new console and it's fast streaming possibilities this could look amazing (imagine the UE5 demo but as a city). I think the UE5 engine could be put to good use and Sony has had some investment in the engine and Days Gone runs on an UE4 version too so I can see it work.
I absolutely love Black Monday, I remember playing it when I was a kid behind my parent's back since they didn't allow violent video games. It had a great city, great vibe and personally I enjoyed the gameplay. The vehicle and on foot controls took some getting used to but it wasn't all that bad as some people made it out to be. Today it's of course outdated but back then it seemed like every studio tried it's own thing. What I enjoyed the most about Black Monday though, was the music. I believe that Amon Tobin did an amazing job on the game's OST to the point that I've uploaded multiple bass covers of the game's OST and still plan on doing even more. I remember back in the early days of UA-cam seeing the trailers for Eight Days and The Getaway 3 and I was completely hyped. After a while read the news that both games were put "on hold" and even though I had some hope that Sony would put them back into production, after the release of PS4/XB1 I pretty much knew that those games were done. I really miss exploring a realistic rendition of London with licensed cars, stores etc and playing through a story that's about it's gangs with all that classic British style and humour. I really wish that Sony decides to remake the first two games in somewhat the same way Square Enix remade Final Fantasy VII. Triple A game, remade from the ground up with many needed changes and some creative liberties while retaining the original game's formula. Thank you for this video and I really do hope that the new game that's in development is a new entry in the franchise. If only Blood And Truth had shaped up to be a new open world Getaway instead of a linear VR title!
Just got the game again and completed it in a day and a half. I have loved this game since it came out. I don’t think people actually realise how the getaway changed how games are made, if you look at the older gtas before this came out they was not realistic looking. This game had cigarettes smoke and the amazing cars and storefronts. The first game that actually looked real world and for you to have played a massive part in that I take my hat off to you 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

Would like to see a new gen release rather than another remake, hd emastered titles have flooded last gen consoles so much it would be better for devs to put their effort towards a new game. It would be such a shame to not see The Getaway again though! Here's hoping we see one more, Watchdogs Legoin has managed a decent playground in London but, could have been better, especially with the Getaway style. You might be interested to know how great the Japanese version of the game is. They fully subtitled the entire game, of course most of the slang had to be changed but the emotion is still there! They even included the map of London, fully translated! For a type of game that does not do well in the Japanese market they really put the effort in! The sequel even came out here too!
Yup, going through Japan QA was very hard. It's probably the best version of both games. The best thing is that Sega and Capcom published the games in Japan. So I have a Sega and Capcom game.
I was going to buy a Playstation 3 on the strength of that Piccadilly Circus demo - because I adore the Getaway. The moment they canned it, I bought an X360. Also highlight of the game for me is the Lee Evans soundalike "Oi stop, I need your details!"
I have made a more modern game that is similar to The Getaway if you want to get that nostalgia hit but without problems the original had. Try out Mafia Definitive Edition.
Great video, such great memories of The Getaway and as much as I would be all over a HD version of any kind (would love to see a straight remake) if it didn’t have the feel of the old game, am not really sure if I would be so keen. Doesn’t seem commercially viable for the reasons you give but would still buy any new version. Happy to replay the original so will take that instead.
For the past 15 years i check up on any getaway news but it's usually met with disappointment, I had hope on the ps3, then ps4 and now we hear ps5 but realty is this game is full on dead and no one is bringing it back. I'm 33 soon I'll happily buy the new console just for one last getaway, I still got both versions of the game stored away, I killed so much time on both games it's unreal. I'm pretty sad that so many years later I'm finding news about something I'm convinced no longer exists 😔

Ya I think so as well. Imagine being able to hand the control of the car over to the AI and then climbing out onto the car roof and jumping into a pursuing car.

personally, the attraction was being at "home". having London, in a game. the style, the "feel", the cars the accent is something unique. The Getaway was quite gritty, rough. watch dogs is more cartoony and doesn't have that raw feeling. GTA, etc are all set in America. I'd love to see a raw, present time london game. Not watchdogs futuristic bs.. just my 2$
@@RetroGamerBoy if there's one thing that's stuck in my head from the getaway, it'd be the 'stop I need your details' Seeing the city link vans, bt vans, tigras, pug 106s/saxos, rovers etc and just feeling how close to home it was had a completely different feel to gta for example
The getaway black monday was amazing, it brings me back so much memories, also, I Love the "vibe" of the gameplay its dark and has a feeling that i can't explain haha It was also super realistic I liked the absence of HUD , really made the gameplay super immersive. I would rather play this game than play more modern games they all feel the same nowadays, not with the getaway, this game is Unique Bro, if you ever read this comment, i have to thank you for making this masterpiece. i beg you to call your contacts at the london studio and ask how many people we need to sign a petition for them to make a new game/remake
Unfortunately a petition won't help. It all cost down to the economics of making a game like that. Can they afford to make it, and what will it's profit margin be.
There’s a getaway mystery that’s been on my mind for many years now and that’s what happened to Mark, Yasmin and Alex at the end of the game. Did Mark leave the UK? Black Monday never mentioned what happened to him and Frank. Also, what did you think of Gangs of London for the PSP?
There was an idea that Mark became a gang lord and that a future Getaway would see him as the bad guy, essentially becoming Charlie. Some of The Getaway team work on Gangs of London, my cars are in their and I consulted on it. The game was going to be another Getaway game but I think the fact we could not do huge open world meant that it got a name change.

While a more linear Getaway sounds interesting and I do tend to prefer linear games I still feel like the series should stay open world. I guess I just want to see a modern recreation of London that is realistic as opposed to something like WD Legion which looks way too futuristic and only vaguely resembles the city.

Since the Getaway 3 never happened, I played Gangs of London on the PSP. Absolutely love the series and all the work you’ve put into it. It’s never too late for a comeback.

Whoa, I barely played any games on PS2, but I did beat The Getaway. I think I borrowed it from my friend, he was a huge car nut and he got me hooked on Driver/Driver 2 series, so naturally we would play The Getaway. Really cool you worked on it as well, it looked very well put together. If I remember there was a crazy fast car you could get in that game.

The getaway needs a solid remake! It was the weight of movement and driving, the shooting and no hud, it felt really immersive esoecially with all the real shop brands and cars
Sadly I don't think we will get another one.
That Getaway bag is incredible!!! Also, interest in a game so long after its released--that's a solid sign of a damn fine game. Companies could learn a lot by paying attention to interest like this. I often look to licensing as being the first and largest hurdle for remasters when people wonder why "x" game isn't getting one.

My dad bought us a PS2 when I was a kid, and this game was the only one he'd actually play OVER and OVER.
We didn't know about memory cards so we'd constantly replay the intro scene and see how far we'd get to in 1 go 😂

I got a PS2 way back in 2002/3, one of those and I got it specifically for one game, The Getaway. It had the same title as an outstanding dream I had back then and logged. Imagine my amazement when I finally got it and played it. The only game I ever needed. I had two others, but The Getaway is frankly, the best game ever conceived. I am so glad that it is considered a masterpiece and that there is so much talk about it all this time later. I am proud of my good taste. A remake for the Ps4/5 would be sensational. I would buy it in a second. I still have the ps2 by the way and because i have also let it go because I thought my time with it had come to an end, I bought it again three times. I have also played The Getaway 28 times. I still have a hunger to play it.

Would love to see a remaster. Playing it again now and it’s awesome. Haven’t played it since I was a young teenager so it’s really cool to revisit it. Especially now that I’ve been to London a bunch of times and can find my way around much easier.

Really well. Loved the story, it really got the feel of an English gangster movie down. There are some control issues in places, like when you’re in Charlie’s mansion with the laser beams. The camera was a bit dodgy there and just trying to turn around was a bit hard. That being said I adjusted to things pretty quickly. The city was awesome and so much work must have been put into it. It was really impressive what you could pull off on the ps2 especially in those early days. The graphics were mind blowing when I was a kid and now they are a bit old but there is still impressive texture work and the vehicles all look great. I can imagine if you were playing it for the first time nowadays it might not have aged as well. Being already familiar with the controls and things like the indicators on the cars telling you where to go, definitely made it easier to pick up again. I remember finding it hard as a kid but I pushed through and this time round I didn’t find it too hard at all. I’d be great to play it with HD textures and maybe a slight tweak to the controls to be able to turn on the spot easier. It’d be nice to be able to control the camera with the right stick as well. Of course these things are probably easier said than done. Had a blast playing through it again and will be playing through Black Monday again shortly.
Really sad that all of the licencing in The Getaway would be near impossible to get for a reboot of this game and it goes to show what kind of a world we live in now, and that never even occurred to me before. But a completely new remake does sound possible and that is quite exciting. I have even had dreams about The Getaway, (many actually), and I dreampt about new levels and different missions, so that would be amazing. Would be nice if it happened. You do seem like a massive The Getaway fan and I notice a lot your merchandise. Where did you get it?
Also, fascinating that you are one of those who were involved in its production. I just wanted to take advantage of this opportunity, even though you may probably never read this, but I can at least say I said it, to say thanks for making and putting together the best game I have ever played. It might be only a game, but then it doesn't mean that it doesn't have to mean anything. Really pleased for the whole production team that this game became the classic it deserved and is so fondly remembered. Even to the idea of a remake. Thanks for The Getaway. I was the vehicle artist on both games and also helped on exterior design. So working at Sony I picked up all the marketing mech we released. A few months ago though I sold a large selection of the collection to pay for my obsession with Sega Mega Drive.
Thoughts on London studio closing down? I think that ends any chances of getting a remaster or The Getaway ever returning again.
It terrible news and another huge blow for the industry. Tens of thousands of game developers are now out of work and with it any chance of some games ever coming out. I very much doubt we will see a new Getaway.

If I was some millionaire I’d produce this remake! I’d really change it up! Instead of the story being cut in two, I’d have it so once you’ve done a mission with mark you’ll then switch to frank. Even have a big part of the story putting these two characters against each other! Imagine a car chase but you’re chasing yourself, then the game switches to the other playable character and all of a sudden you’re trying to getaway! Stuff like that would be cool! Also a final showdown with Charlie would be good

It was the first open world cover shooter, I guess we got some things right and some things wrong.
@@RetroGamerBoy it was mostly the lack of cam control on the right stick, touchy vehicles, and harder to fine tune character positioning. I'm enjoying it a lot so far, it feels like a movie. I'm close to beating it and will try the sequel for the first time. It seems pretty advanced game for a 2002 game
Remember playing for the fist time and being hooked. Was nice to play in my own country instead of somewhere made up or a city in the US. I really hope the game comes back. And hopefully not just for PS but PC also.

The part about PS Home essentially being born out of The Getaway has blown my mind.

They could change the brand of company and changed the car I mean look at what Watchdog Legion did to the city of London. Damn London look gorgeous in that game. I believed with the technology of today this game can get remake but the question is how will the fan react especially those who are unfamiliar with this game.

Very happy and honored to be able to talk to one of the makers of this game . You dont know how much influence this game has on me because of it i consider england a most visit contry before i die . I remember spending hours everyday playing it even after finishing the game. And i was very dispointed and upset of the cancelation of the third installement the reason way i didnt buy the ps3. Considering how shows like peaky blinders, top boy, gangs of london(loosely based on the psp game i believe) and movies like the gentleman came out frequently its feels like a missed opportunity to not make a game like the getaway. It seems like the team is making a urban fantasy game in london which looks cool but disappointing they’re not making a new getaway title
I think the franchise has a while to wait before it see a new release.

Call me crazy but I feel like Rockstar was heavily inspired by The Getaway during their development of GTA 4 because to me that game has some similarities and evokes a sense of The Getaway spirit when I play it.
Everyone is inspired by everyone else in the games industry.

Like you said very physically possible as emulation has shown on pc. I too have it on pc but the most annoying thing about the game is the controls.
Ya the controls have not aged well. But it was the first cover shooter, so some mistakes were made.

Oh awesome, I was just researching this game because Karl Pilkington says he got it for a Xmas present from his girlfriend on the XFM radio show from early 2000s and it sounds like it was really cool! Plus it got censored in Australia so ya id like to play the original full release.

Unfortunatly not. The game would have been licenced for the PS2, some may have also been timed so a few years at most.
There’s another point that was missed. If a remake did happen, would they recast the characters? Half of the cast haven’t had any roles since.
They could use the audio files from the original. We recorded everything in 5.1
hey, i saw the video of the beta cars the collab you did with matt, in the Mini part the game looked more like a PS1 game, so my question, was the game originally developed for PS1? Or were they just using the PS1 graphics engine?
The team were working on a PS1 game but cancelled that game and moved to the PS2.

Maybe a new Getaway game could be a Steam version that Sony could license out and that could use the Unreal Engine. Perhaps even have a "D.Y.O.M" (Do Your Own Mission) mode and do Vigilante, Paramedic and Firefighter mode. Taxi and Bus driver modes would be good too.
That would be very cool, I like the idea for a custom mission editor.

Because The Getaway was better then GTA when it came out, and i think it would of been better then GTA today if they continued to develop it from 20 years ago, what a game!

There are quite a few people who would love to see this game again.
I'd love to see a new The Getaway. With the new console and it's fast streaming possibilities this could look amazing (imagine the UE5 demo but as a city). I think the UE5 engine could be put to good use and Sony has had some investment in the engine and Days Gone runs on an UE4 version too so I can see it work.
I agree, using something like UE will help speed up development.
I absolutely love Black Monday, I remember playing it when I was a kid behind my parent's back since they didn't allow violent video games. It had a great city, great vibe and personally I enjoyed the gameplay.
The vehicle and on foot controls took some getting used to but it wasn't all that bad as some people made it out to be. Today it's of course outdated but back then it seemed like every studio tried it's own thing.
What I enjoyed the most about Black Monday though, was the music. I believe that Amon Tobin did an amazing job on the game's OST to the point that I've uploaded multiple bass covers of the game's OST and still plan on doing even more.
I remember back in the early days of UA-cam seeing the trailers for Eight Days and The Getaway 3 and I was completely hyped. After a while read the news that both games were put "on hold" and even though I had some hope that Sony would put them back into production, after the release of PS4/XB1 I pretty much knew that those games were done.
I really miss exploring a realistic rendition of London with licensed cars, stores etc and playing through a story that's about it's gangs with all that classic British style and humour.
I really wish that Sony decides to remake the first two games in somewhat the same way Square Enix remade Final Fantasy VII. Triple A game, remade from the ground up with many needed changes and some creative liberties while retaining the original game's formula.
Thank you for this video and I really do hope that the new game that's in development is a new entry in the franchise. If only Blood And Truth had shaped up to be a new open world Getaway instead of a linear VR title!

Just got the game again and completed it in a day and a half. I have loved this game since it came out. I don’t think people actually realise how the getaway changed how games are made, if you look at the older gtas before this came out they was not realistic looking. This game had cigarettes smoke and the amazing cars and storefronts. The first game that actually looked real world and for you to have played a massive part in that I take my hat off to you 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

You might be interested to know how great the Japanese version of the game is. They fully subtitled the entire game, of course most of the slang had to be changed but the emotion is still there! They even included the map of London, fully translated! For a type of game that does not do well in the Japanese market they really put the effort in! The sequel even came out here too!
Yup, going through Japan QA was very hard. It's probably the best version of both games. The best thing is that Sega and Capcom published the games in Japan. So I have a Sega and Capcom game.

I was going to buy a Playstation 3 on the strength of that Piccadilly Circus demo - because I adore the Getaway. The moment they canned it, I bought an X360. Also highlight of the game for me is the Lee Evans soundalike "Oi stop, I need your details!"
It was a real disappoint that the series did not continue to the PS3.
Would you consider using Unreal Engine 5 after that Matrix Tech Demo last year in a remake situation?

Great video, such great memories of The Getaway and as much as I would be all over a HD version of any kind (would love to see a straight remake) if it didn’t have the feel of the old game, am not really sure if I would be so keen. Doesn’t seem commercially viable for the reasons you give but would still buy any new version. Happy to replay the original so will take that instead.

For the past 15 years i check up on any getaway news but it's usually met with disappointment, I had hope on the ps3, then ps4 and now we hear ps5 but realty is this game is full on dead and no one is bringing it back.
I'm 33 soon I'll happily buy the new console just for one last getaway, I still got both versions of the game stored away, I killed so much time on both games it's unreal.

Well Sony's trademarks on the game will be up soon, so they will need to do something with the IP if they want to keep it. Or yes it will die.

I think all of them were found. There was an early build of Black Monday that had a secret room under the museum.

personally, the attraction was being at "home".
having London, in a game. the style, the "feel", the cars the accent is something unique.
The Getaway was quite gritty, rough. watch dogs is more cartoony and doesn't have that raw feeling.
GTA, etc are all set in America. I'd love to see a raw, present time london game. Not watchdogs futuristic bs.. just my 2$

Seeing the city link vans, bt vans, tigras, pug 106s/saxos, rovers etc and just feeling how close to home it was had a completely different feel to gta for example
The getaway black monday was amazing, it brings me back so much memories, also, I Love the "vibe" of the gameplay its dark and has a feeling that i can't explain haha
It was also super realistic I liked the absence of HUD , really made the gameplay super immersive.
I would rather play this game than play more modern games they all feel the same nowadays, not with the getaway, this game is Unique

Unfortunately a petition won't help. It all cost down to the economics of making a game like that. Can they afford to make it, and what will it's profit margin be.

There’s a getaway mystery that’s been on my mind for many years now and that’s what happened to Mark, Yasmin and Alex at the end of the game. Did Mark leave the UK? Black Monday never mentioned what happened to him and Frank.
Also, what did you think of Gangs of London for the PSP?
There was an idea that Mark became a gang lord and that a future Getaway would see him as the bad guy, essentially becoming Charlie. Some of The Getaway team work on Gangs of London, my cars are in their and I consulted on it. The game was going to be another Getaway game but I think the fact we could not do huge open world meant that it got a name change.

While a more linear Getaway sounds interesting and I do tend to prefer linear games I still feel like the series should stay open world. I guess I just want to see a modern recreation of London that is realistic as opposed to something like WD Legion which looks way too futuristic and only vaguely resembles the city.
I think this is where they will struggle. The money investment needed to do that is not small, and I'm not sure what Sony's appetite is for that.
