    I bought this ski last year and used it touring and backcountry skiing in Georgia and loved it. It's the best ski I've ever toured on. Floaty, responsive, playful, light. This ski was perfect for powder touring and was never lacking no matter what the terrain and just a total joy to ski. It manages the black magic of being super playful and easy to initiate turns, yet becomes super stable and charges well in powder at speed. The perfect powder tourer and my go-to touring ski now for big adventures.

    I tried this ski today in the 186cm backcountry pow, bowls and trees. Definitely felt like a 110 was a good with to have since we're getting so much snow in Verbier. I was actually surprised that I didn't find the width way too wide for me given it was my first time on anything like that. Gives you a nice big stable platform and was pretty fun. I did struggle getting forward on this ski though - maybe it was too stiff or too long? The shop didn't have the Corvus on demo you so it was a choice between the Ferox and Navis. The guy in the demo store based on my feedback recommended me a Mindbender 108. My friend skis the Armada Tracer 108 and loves it but he's a pro mountain guide. I'm really a beginner in tree skiing, and don't get to ski deep powder that often. When it get steep and deep with tight trees I really struggle. I don't necessarily like tree skiing yet - maybe because it's really tough - I prefer open bowls and fields. If I could get good at it though that would be great. Of course the Ferox wasn't great at all on piste but I have tools for piste so i'd rather not compromise too much. It actually felt like you were gliding on the edge when carving - quite a strange feeling. At least now I have a reference point for wide skis.

      Might be the stiffness or might just be you adapting to a wider ski. Really appreciate you providing your feedback!!

    I was wondering if you would recommend this ski as much as the Corvus freebird for the resort and backcountry application. I'm looking for a touring ski that would allow me to charge on soft and hard snow and still be light enough for Touring. Thanks, love the information on your channel.

    • @SkiEssentials

      Yes! If anything, the Ferox Freebird feels a little stronger than the Corvus Freebird, but I still think it's plenty light enough for touring. If you like to charge, you'll really like the Ferox.

      @@SkiEssentials I forgot to mention that I mostly ski in the east. Québec. I'm currently skiing a Mantra M5, does the Ferox will be a lot different ? That's why I'm wondering between the corvus and the Ferox. Thanks again for the help

      @@p-ocote Definitely. The shape of the Ferox is way different than the M5.

    I am looking for a BC ski which can be used crossing over between piste and powder. I have a 120mm BD Megawatt for the big days but would like to add a ski which gives me the freedom to hit the groomers with my daughter for a day or two but also to do some freetouring with hikes up to two hours or so. I am currently torn between the Ferox Freebird, the Corvus Freebird and the classic Corvus. I am probably a level 7-8 skier. What do you think is the best model to chose for me @skiessentials? Many thanks!

      HI Alex!
      I'd say the Corvus Freebird fits that bill the best. The Ferox is a bit weird and the regular Corvus is a tank. Corvus Freebird gives you the best of both worlds--a bit strange, but also strong and stable. Have fun!

    I'm looking for 50/50 powder and I'm torn between either this or the anima, but the anima with shifts is HEAVY. I plan to go out of my way for pow with either ski and because of that I don't feel like I need the extra weight/performance of the anima. All I need to know is if the Ferox is good enough on crud and hardpack. Is it?

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials  3 роки тому

      Yes, I think you'll be much happier with the Ferox than the Anima for that application. The Ferox is still a strong ski, perfectly capable on crud and hardpack.

    once again guys, who knows it better than skiessential. I'd like to get a ferox. which length would you recomend if you were 180 height and weight about 73kg? also what kind of binding? shift and duke pt are to heavy in my opinion, im looking dor a pin binding like g3 ion 12 or st 12 roation or even a kindpin. but g3 should be good if even a nikolai schirmer uses it all day.

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials  3 роки тому

      Its more based on height and ability level as well as you desired performance out of a ski. Assuming your about six feet and an advanced skier, something around 175 to 180 would work well, understanding that a longer ski will give you more stability at higher speeds and more float in deeper snow, whereas a shorter ski will provide more ease of maneuverability.

    • @Nico-bv6hi
      @Nico-bv6hi 3 роки тому

      @@SkiEssentials completely makes sense! unfortunately i still dont know which length i should get. I'm kinda worried that the ahorter version won't float too well but yeah. why shouls i buy a touringski which is longer than myself..

    Hi, thanks for the review, How would you compare Ferox , Atris and Anima in terms of stability on hard inconsistent snow ( I guess in powder they all feel fantastic ), is Ferox stable ? Thank you, there is not much info or good rewievs of Ferox online

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials  3 роки тому

      Anima most stability, Atris next, then the Ferox Freebird. The Ferox is last in that order basically because it's designed to be lighter, but considering how light it is, it's still a very stable ski. Great choice if you're looking for a backcountry touring powder ski that's also stable at speed.

    How will this ski perform compared to Salomon Q98 from 2016? What will be the differences?

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials  10 місяців тому

      That's a deep dig. The Ferox is considerably wider and more rockered, so the soft snow performance of that ski is going to vastly outperform the Q98, which is considerably more grippy and better suited to on-trail and in-bounds performance.

      @@SkiEssentials Which ski would you recommend as a follower to my q98 - BUT i want something which is stronger / better in bad snow conditions (warm snow, a lot of tracks... refrozen stuff etc.)? You are so skilled about skis, amazing.

    What’s your opinion on the Fritschi tectron 12 touring binding. I have a pair which I use for everything fixed to a 2015 rossignol soul 7.

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials  3 роки тому

      Great binding. I find it's similar to the Kingpin 13, and both work really well if you're looking for a relatively safe, relatively strong pin binding that's still lightweight.

    Looks like a Tracer 118

    • @SkiEssentials

      Similar shape, yeah, but they feel different. Ferox a little lighter and more responsive, Tracer heavier, but smoother.
