[iPHONE SE 2020 REVIEW]
Everyone’s talking about how the new iPhone SE for 2020 is the "affordable iPhone" and the "only small iPhone" left in Apple's lineup … and while both those things are true, what’s more interesting to me is that the new iPhone SE is a lifeline. For all those people who never wanted to give up the home button, people who never needed a bigger screen or FaceID or more cameras, but do need a new iPhone. And for them, the new iPhone SE 2020 is basically perfect. Join me for MrMobile's iPhone SE 2020 Review!

Forget the iPhone, make a review about the belt
hahahaha so true
Facts
Noice
i want it..!!
You darn right he should! 😂
80% of the reason why I bought this phone is because it is a small phone with modern specs. I HATE big phones
Should have gone for an Samsung s10e. Better spec than iphones
Same reason I bought it too. Tired of the huge screen phones lol.
@@ShynobieX that's a totally different OS.

ShynobieX specs don’t matter to me, user experience matters
It’s not about the fact that you spend 399 on a phone. It’s about how often you have to spend it
Thought i've heard of this somewhere by someone, nah i'm imagining things..
Bear in mind there's a good number of people still using the original iPhone SE. This would be the perfect upgrade for them and they won't have to spend $400 again for a few more years
@@Devo_gx This is a 4G phone. There will be 5g everywhere in 2 years.
With battery that less I'll have to spend again next year on different phone.
Pls buy the 450$ instead. Like HE said, 64gb wont be enough for the next 5 years. Unless u regularly empty your internal storage which crazy to do for 5 years.
My SE 2 lasts all day through phone calls, FaceTime, watching UA-cam, playing games, emails, and texting. I’m so impressed

I've been using my SE for almost 4 years, and when I listen someone say that 4.7 it's claustrophobic, I start to laugh because it's way bigger than my phone xd
I’m in the same boat lol
I had a small iphone 6 and moving to a S10+ was great, the bigger screen really felt awesome and way better, i thought i will never need a big screen but now i dont think ill be able to use a small screen again.
I now think jumping to 6s or 7 would not be bad;D this phone is benchmark for bikers lol
I’ve had a iPhone 5S until the iPhone 11 came out, I have a 7 now
Same!
Your dad is effing cool. What a slick solution to his battery issue. (And yes, I do agree with your hypothesis especially for my partner who can do about 3 tasks on her pocket computer.)
I don't get why he didn't just get the battery replaced. Plenty of tech repair shops where I live. Plus Staples, Best Buy, and Office Max also handle screen replacements and battery replacements.
Yep
It's a cool idea regardless, but why not replace the battery while you're at it and get the best of both :)
@@jackdamenace13 Perspective. You and I may agree that your solution works better long term, for someone who has lived on minimal income, his solution requires less upfront costs. And one can never predict the future.
@Adam J it's a problem that apple has manipulated the market to swallow.
They pair insane powerful chips with incredibly small batteries and they have a dedicated chip handling Bluetooth, wifi and the rest of the extras. The thing about this that Apple users dont get it's that the chip is not eficient and Apple doesn't have a magic formula, but it's rather the low usage of the CPU at start that makes it seem that way. As the years go on and CPU usage increases that battery feels dramatically smaller. Because it's just not enough.
And that without counting Apple just like other companies, dont use high quality batteries (because they can get away with it), push software updates that makes power consumption higher, yata, yata, yata.....
What I'm saying here it's somewhat reproducible by using the phone for tasks that makes CPU very often to go over 20-30% usage. If you take a Snapdragon 855 with 4000mah, and the iPhone 11 pro max and have them using a lot of CPU power, the iphone doesn't even come close to compete and the 25% less battery will show up. That means in 2-3 years a 11 pro max user that now gets 1,5 days will start to have to carry a battery pack, while me with a mi9t pro that now I'm getting the same 1.5days, i will still get well over a day of usage out of it.
I know UA-camrs have always pushed for better cameras and displays, but for the avg joe out there, even if they like premium devices, if you give them for a month to use 2 devices, one with 2x the battery of the other and one with 2x better camera, 95% will choose the battery one after.
Even if MR. Mobile it's right about iPhone pushing competition, he is also forgetting the power that Apple has when creating tendencies. The new iPhone SE shows you can get away with shit design and a battery that's gonna last a year with low usage. We already have excelent budget phones like mi9t and realme x2 pro, which offer excelent value without neglecting anything, but gimmicks like water resistance and wireless charging. Water resistance degrades with time (and it doesn't take that much mind you), and wireless charging it's so slow compared to some of the best fast charging phones out there. The realme x2 i just mentioned fully charges in half an hour

I have got to praise you Michael. Many of your colleagues have lost the link with the average consumer for many reasons (first of all maybe because the last time they bought electronics with their money has been 10 y ago). Your videos are just as well produced yet much more relatable to given your more down to hearth POV. You truly are the best in the business IMHO. Cheers from Sicily!
You know what else it is? An actually affordable iPhone for once.
I just realized most ppl don’t need a very powerful camera system they just need a decent camera to click basic photos with their friends and relatives and there are very few who are into clicking exotic photos of things , animals or ppl etc.
It's because phones are so similar these days that the only thing that reviewers really have to focus on are the cameras and the gaming performance. So many reviews I've watch on UA-cam have started featuring gaming sections to their reviews because otherwise they wouldn't have enough content to call it a review.
Even the camera part of the reviews are getting to the point you have to pixel peep in order to see the differences.
I just want mine to be able to transcribe text well with MS Office... x_x

Question to MrMobile:
What would be your impression if ANY android phone maker released a phone with a 4.7inch, 720p LCD screen with massive bezels and a 1800 mah battery, 5watt charger in 2020.
All for $400?
@@ivanmaksimovic163 why dont you do your research and understand why. People like you always believe rumours without any reasons or sources behind them lol grow up
Because the OS would suck. Who would buy a phone that would be buggy and lag everytime. Apps will be so slow. Even an iphone from 5 years ago is smooth now in day to days tasks. It's all about the user experience and then the specs. Not just the specs as every android manufacturer thinks (OnePlus is different)
@@epilouge This is maybe true 4 years before. But not now. Except you install some virus on the phone. But that is true for all platforms.
Giyuu Why would the OS suck if such an android phone, Pixel for example, released a phone with a small low res screen, huge bezels, pathetic battery capacity, no fast charger in the box, but the only thing it would have going for it is a modern chipset and longer update support. These are things Google would be highly criticized for while Apple constantly gets a pass. If google released such a phone now in 2020, trust me they would get destroyed by every reviewer.
@@JPerez-cw1tb Beacuse:
Android --> focus on everything specs, software left behind
iPhone--> software is a blast to use, not the greatest specs
Most people dont want a phone with 700gb ram or 100x zoom. They want a phone that sort of "works". Yes androids work too but quality of iOS is superior. By all means if you want those monstrous specifications then go ahead and get a OnePlus or Samsung. I was a massive Apple hater too. "Everything is so overpriced, lmao i can buy an android that works for like $100". Then I opened my eyes and put my biases and opinions aside, and I learnt more and more about iPhone, and I can say (along with million of users) it really is the better choice

"The cheapest iPhone has a more powerful processor than the most expensive Android phone."
-Jerry Hildenbrand of Android Central
But everything else is worse.
I think what Apple’s doing is they’re releasing a bargain phone with every super cycle. (SE was released before the iPhone X super cycle but the new one was released this supercycle). The next one will come with the iPhone 15 (or 14 if they go with a 12S) and probably have the same design as the iPhone 11 Pro. Big notch, maybe 3 cameras, but with the A16/17 processor of that generation. I feel like when this phone sells alot, manufacturers are going to look at it and finally realize that the working class don’t want $1000 flagships with 5G, 30 watt wireless charging, and a screen so big it’s encroaching on iPad mini territory, they just want a phone... one that can last them, and they don’t care about it the bezel or the screen to body ratio.
I’d like to see some phones come out next year around $300-400 with beefy specs and a Galaxy S8 like design. It’s time for the industry to take their foot off the gas pedal...
The SE is still expensive for a phone in AU.
@@TN_AU who pays in gold?
This would be HORRIBLE
Hmmmm i think the will use xr/11 design because it's cheaper for them to build
You can buy an old flagship phone. Same result.
I must say, I really appreciated that intro! My friend actually still has her iPhone 6s and will be keeping it even longer now because she has a new battery!
One of the first to watch, one of the first to comment on the fact that, even though I’m 32, I feel real old knowing I want this phone over any other. All the same, thanks for solidifying my decision - and for making the shelter in place more bearable!
And for the record, yes, I’m typing this on my original iPhone SE that I did replace the battery for. Almost 4 years going, while using iOS 13.4.1. Yes, the software update fact is as real as it gets.
Hey, enjoy the upgrade! Sounds like the perfect fit for you.
MrMobile [Michael Fisher] appreciate the like, and thanks for commenting! Looking forward to its arrival. Stay safe, and stay mobile (when you can).
i don't like this trend that a 400 dollars phone is considered midrange or even cheap, dammit i need to step up my salary
Yeah, 400$ is not cheap goddammit, and its gonna be over that outside US...
But it is... why would it ever be considered better than that? If you’re complaining that 400 dollars is too expensive for a smartphone, maybe you shouldn’t get one.
Right. Even $800 phones get reviews focused on "value and compromise."
But there are tons of options for sub $300 phones, too.
Even low end smartphones can be had for $80
Get a Huawei. They have tons of options under $300 that all work just as good as any midrange phone. Currently using a 2019 Prime that I picked up on Amazon for only $240. It has 128gb storage and 2gb of ram. That's more than enough for me.
When you mentioned it, I finally realized David Imel’s background is the same as yours.
4:02 that's a little misleading, as Google has structured Android so that security is largely addressed by the Services app, so it really never expires, as it's always updated.
Pixel 3a at the same/lower price with incredible camera, software updates and high resolution OLED display, headphone jack.
Only place apple wins is at speed and performance with the a13 bionic chip.
Agreed and the 4a will be even better.
The 3A is made of plastic, no wireless charging, no IP rating and the bezels are HUGE, perhaps comparable to the SE bezels.
@@innocentbystandard9104 I don't get what's wrong with plastic, it doesn't feel cheap and most people use a case so it doesn't matter really. You buy a $400 dollar phone and if you drop and crack it your paying a minimum 200 to get it fixed. Plus iPhone 7.5 watt wireless charging is trash... More of a gimmick imo

4:07 you are wrong. It is 3 years platform updates and 3 years security updates since the pixel 2. For the original Pixel 2 years platform and 3 were security had been promised but Google delivered 3 years platform and 3 years security updates nevertheless. It went from Android 7.1 to Android 10.
Still not enough.
Samsung Users be like : You guys getting updates?!!?
Even just 1 minute into the video you nailed it. As someone who still hates the display notch, and isn't really ready to give up Touch ID yet, I'm so glad they decided to make this phone. I don't really care about thin bezels at all, and 326ppi is more than enough for normal viewing...and I really think phones have gotten ridiculously large in recent years. I'm holding onto my iPhone 8 because it's doing just fine even almost 3 years later, but it's nice to know I have a "safe" upgrade path should I need it in the future. Thanks to Apple for releasing the iPhone SE, they’ve made my iPhone 8 feels alive again.

I got an an SE Because I don’t care about cameras, prefer smaller phones, enjoy the home button/hate the notch, and only use for general phone use/ideal games.
After 5 days of use the battery is perfect for me needs, the screen size feels like an upgrade from the old SE, and I loved the price. 450 plus 30 for a case, at just under 500 I’ll get an iPhone that will last 5 years, work well with my MacBook, and keep my on FaceTime/iMessage.
This is a perfect buy for me while I wait for Apple to get rid of that awful notch. I wanted to get an 11, but I guess I am someone that can’t stand it. Now, gonna go press the home button some more.
Weird I thought the review over Facebook you posted was this very same video.
Nice review and justification of why this is a great idea, but not for everybody.
Video liked as always
I have ESR's kickstand case for the Note 9, and it's the only one I can find that has a strong metal kick stand, and on top of that it's thin and out of the way enough to work with wireless charging (which I use all the time). Over time the case goes less matte and the hinge becomes less stiff (too loose) but they took a year and a quarter to happen, so I got their case again recently. Also, there's barely any kickstand cases that let you prop your phone up in portrait. So it's unique for a note 9 case all three wireless charging, metal kickstand, and portrait orientation for the kickstand
I love that Apple did this iPhone, it’s perfect for so many of us, I think I am probably one of those. I’m a bit like your dad, but not as well aged.
Whatever else, that belt idea is cool AF.

I don't know why. But this guy is my go to tech reviewer. Unbiased, covers products for the entire price range and everything else.
I upgraded my 6s for this SE. I’m disappointed that I had to give up my headphones jack. But other than that it’s the perfect size/phone for ME. It’s exactly like my 6s
You got the Pixel Update Policy wrong, Michael. It's just 3 years of updates, regardless if they are platform or security updates. So, for example the Pixel 2 launched with 8, it got 9, then it got 10 last year and it's getting 11 this year. It's support end in Oct this year, so that's 3 years of platform updates. OG Pixel got the same treatment too.
You should put an annotation on that part of the video, because that's some bad misinformation.

1:38 the BEST part of this phone!
Making Samsung launch the S30e so I can upgrade my S10e next year =)
Im currently using a oneplus 7t. Really like this phone. It has great a great screen. Great speed. And good battery life. I was a long time android user since 2011. In 2018 I decided to switch to an iPhone being the xs. Loved it. Loved everything about it... Except... The home screen. I love the customization of Android home screens with so many widget options. This eventually led me to the oneplus 7t. The oneplus 7t met most of my expectations. But the issues I had with android phones are still here. Number one is instability. Even this oneplus 7t has some stability issues. Every time I connect to Android auto my dark mode switches back to light. Sometimes the phone rings but doesn't show who's calling. These are just a few issues. My other issue with Android is consistency. I get that there's soooooo many Android manufacturers and Google and app developers have a hard time getting apps to act right on all Android phones. But I think this is an issue that may never go away. But yeah anyways all this has led me back to purchasing an iPhone. I couldn't afford the flashiest iPhone models so I had to settle on this guy. And I'm glad I did. I honestly don't need all the bells and whistles of the pro models. All I need is reliability. I want my phone to tackle to every task I throw at it. And most of all is stability. And I feel this phone offers just that.
I am in no way saying ios is better than android. They both have their perks and cater to their target audience.
Personally I love the SE line (I don't own an iPhone). To me I see it as like that basic iPhone for the more casual users and it does that job well.

I use both and I agree iPhone is smooth but there were occassions where my Xs gave up and cheap $150 Xiaomi phone was reliable enough
I also think this is the perfect parents phone. Heck one day I will probably switch to something like this when I am older, when I can’t bear holding an enormous plus sized phones
tldr: skip to 0:20 you will bring a power bank for the iPhone SE 2020 too. 😂
I've never understood the need for wireless charging, and it's not due to a lack of funds. I bought my own Xperia 1 (no contract) and find the battery care option through wired charging to be fantastic. I don't have to worry about charging before I go to bed as I can leave it plugged in overnight without worrying about battery damage. Just set it to before I get up for work and it takes care of the rest.
"but folks, its a $400 phone"
xiaomi: that is...overpriced
Xiaomi Note 8 Pro its 1 milion times better then this iphone SE - stupid edicion
@@arbenbytyqi9732 then why are u here watching iPhone's stupid edition 😂
A custom belt was made for your dad.
Battery cases: are we a joke to you?
Dad: My phone suffers from battery issues
Mr. Mobile: Gives his dad an iPhone SE2
Dad: My new phone suffers from battery issues
It’s also for those people who want an ISO device but can’t afford to spend £1000-£1500 because they have a family or need to pay Rent/mortgage or need to just eat
Welcome to our world where 4.7 inch screen are too small to do anything
It's too small to do the things UA-camrs are going to do on the phone. Honestly how many people actually edit photos on their phones, even if they have one with a screen over 6 inches?
This is why I have to take reviews with a pinch of salt, especially those from the UA-camrs where it is their full-time job. The average users use of a phone isn't going to be anywhere near that of a UA-cam reviewer. Screen on time for example, who apart from reviewers are going to have their phone screen on for 5 hours a day.
4:30 "But even if you're buying a $700 iPhone 11 or $1,00 11 Pro, the fact that you're getting all the support behind it... more than justifies the cost".
They charge 600$ for any kind of repair for your device. I wouldn't call that "support" at all.
0:28 That's a cool idea, but I think a battery replacement would be better =D
When the customer's reason to buy a new phone is the battery getting older, you know why those companies killed the replaceable battery.
The Pixel is three years of software updates and four years of security updates (not two and three, respectively). I'm surprised you'd make a mistake like that.
For the price I would get the more diverse, capable S10e.
Also I've been with Apple for the last 10 years, the 5 year updates aren't all that since iOS is essentially the same thing for the last 5 years. Compared to Android 10 is way better than P and O which is way better than N, M and gosh let's not talk about L! Android has improved so much, it's now my main phone over the iphone.
Oh and also you need to review the Samsung A51, OMG that phone comes kills the iPhone SE in every way, both made in China too.
Clifton why not S10 lite?
Very good video as always, Mr. Mobile. You mentioned not liking iMessage. Why is that? In fact, can you do a video on your favorite and least favorite messaging app or apps?
Thanks to this video, I found my resolve.
I am going to make a charging belt just like your dad did. A genious idea.
I needed a new iPod after my classic 120gb died and a new phone after my razer phone died, saw this and wend back to apple for the first time in about 5/6 years!! I love it so far, if I need a camera I have cameras so that’s not an issue for me
This iPhone has just the right size. I wish Samsung would come out with a flagship specked phone of this size. With ip68. Phones are getting stupid big these days.
Ehm.. s10e maybe?
@@2chap true. S10e is a good one but also probably the last of that size. Unless they make a S20e? 😁
I want the next SE to be slightly smaller but make the whole thing a screen like the iPhone X, but instead of Face ID it should have a finger print censor on the power button and a hole punch camera.
iMessage really does suck. I don't understand the hype.
only hyped in US, no where else
It’s convenient
It’s extremely useful if most members of your friends and family, colleges use iPhone. Also if all your other devices (laptop/desktop) are from Apple
@@dvo5808 How is it more convenient than any other messaging platform. I have an iPad and a MBP, though I do have an Android phone. However, all my friends use whatsapp, telegram, google chat/sms, or fb messenger. iMessage is awful. Sharing pictures is so much harder. On my desktop I have to do ninja tricks to drag and drop images into the chat. I'm sorry, bud, but iMessage is the worst messaging app I've ever used.
@@shahriyarhussain3931 I could say that about any messaging platform. It doesn't mean the platform is actually any better than an alternative. It's a ploy to get people to stay with Apple and you bought into it. Congrats.
People need to understand that this iPhone has the latest SoC and security features. It’s just cheaper.
After being used to bezel-less phones, this phone already looks 6 years old.
It is, LMFAO. The IP 6, which is the design language the SE is based upon, was released in 2014.
I like the way you review phones compared to other more up themselves channels
1080p gang! Then again, my display is only 1080p...
1440p gang, s10+
@@bl00dkillz I have a Note 10+ with 1440p, but I was watching on my laptop. I always try to crank up the quality for higher bitrate, though.
5 and half hour of SOT is quite amazing for such a small battery size!
If samsung can do this thing on their galaxy s8 or even s7
That will be such a great phone
TRU
You Can change The battery of 6s for 29 $ without spending 399 for the SE2020
3:58 that's the entire reason I as a longtime Android user are jumping ship. Getting real tired of having to upgrade an otherwise entirely perfect device to get the latest OS and related updates. I've got a 128gb iPhone SE being shipped to me from my service provider, should be here in a few days
currently using an iphone 7 and still going strong but i’m waiting for it to naturally die out haha. iphone SE here i come !!
1:45 I'm not sure how it is in the U.S, but I'm pretty outside of the U.S there's an abundance of value smartphones on the market. Low prices and unnaturally high quality.
The US has a crap market. Only 5 actual OEMs there. Apple,Google,Samsung,LG and Oneplus.
LG,Oneplus and Google don't make value smartphones that are good. So it's only Samsung
+João Cardoso Ever heard of the lg v60?
@@MsMRkv yes the LG V60, a 1000$ phone. Value
Sometimes people don't bother reading
The OG comment is talking about 200$ phones which is mainly Huawei, Xiaomi, Samsung,Realme worldwide but in the US, there's only one of them
in the US they like to spend money and get in debt for shit they don't need. On the other side of the atlantic, it's mostly 200 bucks devices you see in peoples' hands, because nowadays cheap phones are quite good, and do everything you need. Who in their right mind would spend hundreds for browsing facebook and using whatsapp?
