Tongue blocking gets the harp deeper in the mouth naturally. If you consciously deep mouth it while lip pursing, it gives that very similar tongue blocking fatter tone.
Much of what you say about Jason Ricci would be true as well for a great deal of bluegrass playing . Just listen to Charlie McCoy, early PT Gazell, or Buddy Greene and you will come to appreciate the value of lip-pursing for certain types of music.
Some are over the top on the subject. You know I was playing for quit sometime and really not bending i was hand cupping and getting a wild cool sound . you sound great and are a good teacher...

Been on the harp for a bit but you finally learned me to howl!
To play some nice songs in harmonica is easy, but to play very well harmonica is a long way man .Thanks a Lot!

I feel he must of done both tongue and pucker I truly feel both is the best. I agree with you. Nice work .
