We need something this minimal and practical back on the market.
I wish they would reproduce this truck.
Jason Richardson If Toyota released a slight smaller solid front axle Tacoma, call it a T100 or just “the pickup” with a 2.2 I4 it would sell like fire I think. Just a simple truck, Hell with parking sensors, auto climate control, back up cameras, etc
Colton Ware I think USA laws require new cars to have some of those features
@@firemasterx23 doesn't mean they can't reproduce a older body style truck with the same technology as modern day ones..
I thought I was the only one that always dreamed of owning the black 4x4 from Back to the Future.
I think everyone that has a soul that saw the movie back in the day instantly loved the truck when first revealed as Marty opened the garage door. The film makers created a magical moment in the film that connected with us truck guys at a very significant level.
First restoration shop that I hear that sends there stuff to other pros like 22re performance when it needs it. This guy definitely knows about making stuff perfect. Trucks looks awesome. Especially with that Toyota bright blue its era correct and the decals too. Wish I had one of those. I got a 88 tho. Great job Greg keep it up.
I had an identical (Black) 85 SR5 4WD w/factory sunroof etc. in mint condition .. I sold it in 93. One of the dumbest things I probably ever did :) Awesome job guys
I had the 84 but had the carburetor and sold it in 93 as well. Wish I still had it.
@@jimmy4x4socal44 Location, kind of starting to look for a clean mid 80's Toyota 4wd...
Those graphics bring me back! Something about them always reminded me of Transformers; the cool factor was off the charts. Cool like the other side of the pillow as my dad would say.
That thing is beautiful, iconic truck for sure, this is the truck that built the reputation for Toyota reliability
Gorgeous vehicle. I can't get enough of these old, 80's SUV's / Pickups. Awesome restoration.
I also fell in love with Toyota's in the theater watching the first Back to the Future when I was 8 or 9. My first vehicle was a 84 standard cab 4x4, and I've had an 88 sc 4x4, 89 4runner, 90 4runner since and currently have a 84 SR5 4Runner. Huge props on the work, but looks like you have a very good starting point. Wish I had the funds to do this to my current 4Runner.
Awsome job guys. I had a gray 85 xtra cab years ago. Making me wish I still had it. You guys are very talented and blessed.
I owned an 87 4x4 Toyota truck reg cab Turbo short bed. Was fully loaded with power windows, locks, mirrors antenna, full gauges, no sunroof or cruise control and it was a manual transmission. Most turbos were automatics and all 4 runners with optional digital dash were automatics. The manual trans much much more fun to drive. The only upgrade I did was add a aftermarket intercooler and increased power dramatically. The turbo package was avail in late 85 (as 86 models through 1988 and was available on all 2wd and 4wd models 1986-87. In 1988, turbo option was only available on 2wd trucks as the 3.0 liter V6 debuted as an option for the 4wd trucks and 4Runners only. Standard power for the 4wd in 1988 was still the 4 cylinder, but like I had stated no more Turbo. The Turbos head was different and had a weak spot and was known for cracking between 2 and 3 cylinders, but other then that, was a good motor if cared for. The flywheel and clutch were also larger for turbos only. I now own a 1993 and 1994 Toyota truck 4x4 extra cabs with 3.0 liter motors with every option including factory sunroofs. I regret selling my 1987 and my 1988 loaded V6 short bed reg cab with sunroof, full power, white exterior with rare red interior. Maybe one day guy I sold to will let me buy back.
I've got an 86 extra cab 22R with a small flatbed that needs every ounce of love that you put into this one. Great work
Absolutely stunning! You guys are true masters of your craft, beautiful work guys!
Stunning mate absolutly STUNNING! i wish my 1982 dual cab looked as good
So beautiful that it hurts my eyes just to look at it. A true masterpiece.
This has to be one the best complete restoration of a vehicle I ever seen , they basically remade this truck brand new, everything in this truck was rebuilt and remade new again. Great job. 💯
Gorgeous job. Well done. I love these old Toyotas. The three wheelers were a great added bonus....
Had the same truck in dark metallic gray but a 1984 model. Love the restoration and brings back memories.
Awesome build! Owned one of these 85 Yota 4x4 ext cabs 10 years ago with just a weber carb & 5 speed on 33 inch Mud Terrains I managed to get 22-25mpg which was amazing. Oddly enough I got married Oct 21st when I finished the build on that one. No where near this clean...that is a legend you created! Very nice job!
I have this truck from 84, and it was sitting since sept. of 19. New battery, added air in one tire, pumped the gas about 20 times. Started up. They really are amazing trucks!
It’s just so awesome that people are embracing these old Toyota’s, same here! 👍🏼
I'm in love, love that thing! Properly done by people who know what they're doing. Blast from the past! I bet a lot of the older Ford, Chevy and Dodge owners would love t this Toyota!
You did a great job of restoring that little truck. I have a 1986 Toyota pickup there need to get back on the road someday
Such a beautiful icon this vehicle is! Just like the earlier Datsun King Cabs, thus so much better over all.
This here opened eyes of Motor Cities manufacturers on where to go in terms of building a market oriented 4x4, heavy duty, money worth, work horse truck, thereby extending the life span of a dead industry by challenging it to its bones and guts.
These are so sought after by now, and they are one of the hardest to get a hold of icons in car history, since they more than fulfilled their duty and purpose.
My god 😍😍😍😍😍 that truck is beautiful.
Function and simplicity. The only problem is that it is made out of beer can metal.
Awesome Truck. I have such an appreciation for older trucks!
Clean restoration! I used a company truck that was like a 1990 Toyota back in the day. It was an automatic and I put many miles on it. In total it turned over 300k miles and still ran strong! Someday I would like to restore my 1986 Ranger but no money :( well happy to keep it running!
SWEET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is my favorite truck model EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Wonderful renovation!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great job doing the restoration Greg!!👍🏻
Great truck and great restoration. For me, this is the best truck ever.
I bought an EFI in 87 and loved it so much! it was stolen in NYC and I found it the next day- kept it for a long time- now I drive a 2017 tacoma, I like it very much , but wish I had that EFI
Love these things. I think my manual Tacoma has some DNA from them. To me, it feels like a blend of a new school old school pickup truck. Hopefully it also shares there insane reliability. Nice build
My daily driver is a 1985 Xtracab. I wish it looked that sweet. Nice work.
New Sub. My first car was actually a 1985 Toyota 1 ton, long bed Truck. It was also blue! Thanks for sharing.
just chiming in as an owner. i have 93 5mt v6 extended cab long bed 4x4 almost like new with one owner. i used to have an 04 v8 4runner that unfortunately got totaled and i miss it but so grateful for this one that i plan on keeping the rest of our lives.
I am almost finished restoring and bobbing an 88 regular cab pickup with my son. Did everything over all new AC components, anything I could get from Toyota - even got new window regulators straight from Toyota. I wish this truck was available just like it is but everything scaled up to a full size with some large displacement straight six. I'm telling you you can have the dash out of this truck and have the gauge cluster in your hands in 10 minutes. I replaced the all of the AC components in about 2 hours. The condenser slips out from under the dash like sliding a book off a book shelf.
That is beautiful 😍 ! Yes! Every kids dream to have the Back to the Future truck!! Ive got a 92. Bullet proof.
Greg you have the coolest job man. Love them old Toyota's.
EFI was introduced in 1984, I know because I have one. They are rare in '84 but they were available in the SR5 as an option.
Beautiful restoration job, period correct aftermarket accessories.
I love these trucks and have tons of great memories with them all the way back from when they were new till today.
Awesome job fellas! Love me an old Toyota! I still have my '94, keeps ticking away.... Wish I had the straight front axle, that would be nice, would also like to do a turbo truck one day. That is my only complaint with the old Toys, they are just super under powered. Probably why they live so long, less stuff to break!
Love it when they get the old 3 wheelers in the mix, the icing on the cake here.
Awesome clean! One of the all time best trucks ever maid!👀😀👀😀👀😀!!!
Beautiful work! It looks like you guys really take the time to get things right. Keep it up!
This is an awesome truck, I would love to have one of those. Especially in that blue
Thanks for the video, totally enjoyed that. Can't wait for the Back to the Future restoration .
Great job guys.. I bought a one owner 1985 SR5 just like this one but it was black with a sunroof, power windows and all. The body and interior were great, but it had engine problems, so I found a 1985 2wheel drive that came with a Turbo charged 22RE, and swapped it into my SR5, and then one day some gentleman wanted it more than I did, so I sold it. now, of course, I wished I would have kept it.
Definetly one of the funnest trucks to drive Makes me want to take the cab and bed of my 85 extra cab 2x4 5speed and paint the frame .. mines a similar blue.to this was originally red .. but got a.rod knock 2.weeks ago , so gonna rebuild asap ...
Thats one awesome 85! Love the photo shoot three wheelers too
That’s sweet. I’d like one. But I have a Land Rover under restoration and your attention, dedication and good work inspires me to do even better.
Awesome build. Buddy of mine has an 85 with custom built dump bed that's a farm truck but runs like the day it came off the showroom floor.
Makes me wanna go wrench on my 88 4x4 in driveway 👍🏻 great restoration
Great job! These trucks are harder and harder to find. I remember when I had 2 pickups and a 4runner in the driveway and I just dream about having them back!
Excellent job, this is a true restoration.
This has to be the baddest/sexiest Toyota pickup I’ve ever seen!!!you guys killed it! Amazing job!!!
Great job... not only on the truck but also on the video! We are proud to partner up with you on all our restorations!
First year FI and last year SFA...the Holy Grail!
You did a great job , I'm from Guatemala and I love those trucks
Wow, fantastic job guys! Love the video.
re-doing a 1993 deluxe --wine red ,,new factory motor is in finished today, ,Inside grey immaculate,, black rhino bed coating all new chrome ready to hit the streets of Idaho This Tuesday 8/1/2023

Amazing work fellas! Truly awesome.
Had a 91. Loved that truck.
Amazing 👏work Guys, Great restoration, Dont have words to say.
Amazing job. Lucky owners. Thanks for sharing
I have a beautiful 5 speed 1985 SR5 4x4 xtra cab pickup. fully loaded, sun roof. Chrome wheels. no cracks in the dash. Interior is clean. Beautiful truck. They are great.
I had one of these 1985,5 speed ,22r,carb,think I bought it around 1999._l live in NJ-it was a rust bucket but,I"m 60 years old now, looking back,Probably the most fun truck I ever owned.Absolutely a beast in 4 wheel drive, locking hubs, straight axle, burned oil like hell but ran like a clock.
Amazing restoration. Beautiful truck...
Sharp ! Had an 88 , toughest truck I ever owned .
Beautiful work !! I love Toyota nothing like it!, I've owned a 91 pickup,92 4runner and currently own a 99 4 runner. I recently painted it toyota hot lava orange. Did the work myself I love it nothing like a toyota.
I had 85 4x4 standard cab bought new drove it everywhere loved that truck had it 20yrs before I let it go
You guys did an OUTSTANDING JOB ON THIS BUILD! That truck sits perfect and it’s obvious you you took some time to nail the stance in proportion to tire size. Those chrome wagon wheels look tough! I have an 85 with the chrome SR5 wheels. They don’t look quite as deep dished as the ones on blue boy. Would you happen to remember the rim sizing and tire size and lift specs on that thing. It sits so good!
Yess! The decals!!! My 4runner is an ‘86 but the ‘87 decals were so much cooler!
Very nice vehicles sir...thanks for your time making this nice video and making us happy
Yeah, I want one. Nice build!
The perfect Toyota pickup in the 80' and still I love it
Stunning!!!!👏👏👏😍😍😍 I luv japanese 4x4 classics!👌👌😎, and have a 87 Hilux Ext Cab 2.2l Y3 gasoline a 95 Landcruiser Hdj 80 4.2, and a 95 Nissan Patrol Y60 SLX, Arctic Truck, the 2 latter in mint condition. Cheers from Norway
Amazing work! I have the same truck and hope to restore it some day.
Back to the Future brought me here, Check out that 4x4 that is hot.
Oh, that is cool! Ive got an ‘88 4 Runner SR5, stock as a rock. Would love an X-cab Hilux to match.
My '85 SR5 is at the body shop right now getting restored. The only difference between it and the one in the video is mine is a regular cab. It was owned from day one by my closest friend who recently passed away. He was proud of the fact he kept it factory original and I'm pretty much sticking to that for its restoration. This video makes me wish it was already done. Great looking truck and superb restoration.
My ‘85 has been stuck in the paint shop since September. These videos keep giving me the itch to drive her. Can’t wait!
Would love a video of the arrival of the truck at customers and your visit. That's so profession that you guys went down and talked over the resto.
That blue with the factory decals is hella sick! I also like the red with black decals. I had a regular cab 1985 Toyota! Best wheeling rig ever! I smashed the shit out of it on the Rubicon trail unfortunately! A lot of these got destroyed up here in Northern California because they use to be plentiful and wheeled amazing with little modifications.
i had one as my first car, Diesel though. It had a 2.5 inch exhaust that sounded amazing. I lifted it, built a custom tray and painted it. All on a budget in my driveway between work and uni. I sold it before it had gotten too rusty in the trouble zones. Somehow now 10 years later I own it again, except it has a turbo and a standard tray and has been repainted again. The paint is bad (weird reaction for some reason) but so much has been renewed that the only issue is the paint (like all the running gear has been replaced with lower mileage gear, common rusty foot-well has been replaced, the chassis isnt rusty thanks to dry Aussie weather, even the windows all work). The rust never got worse in the body because its been repainted twice in the last 10 years. So now Im pulling the cabin off for a 100% rust fix and then Ill repaint it again
Love the look of those models.
Amazing build would love to bring my 94 SR5 will be looking you guys up seems not to far from me in NH
Great job bringing it back
Wow! That's a beauty.
There is some talk of the HiLux coming back to America. Wow! what a piece of crap you started with. I owned the same Truck. Mine was amazing. You really did an magnificent job. Great video and thanks for sharing.
I got a 86’ no solid front shaft but strong 4x4 transfer case, 5sp Manuel Tranny. Good project truck. Bed on but about rusted. Was running when I parked it. Needs an aftermarket carb. 22re carb. Reg cab & pretty much original. Had a brush guard & headache rack made for her & mounted. $500 come & pick up in Texas, S. of Houston. Clear Blue Texas Title. I just used it as a run around town & ranch truck.
Can you send me some photos to my email? gregsrestorationsllc.com
Man Toyota needs to simply bring back these simple trucks. Manual windows, locks, AM/FM radio, and the legendary reliability that Toyota is known for. I have a 2003 Tundra which is pretty basic and it's been 100% reliable.
Man that's truck is amazing
I bought a new in 86 model had different graphics, sticker like 15,300 loaded no a/c,sunroof black, loved it traded a year later 85 gt mustang conv. Happy with both, old days hmmm
wow. yall basically disassembled the truck, cleaned and repainted and fixed everything, then reassembled it like new.
Still driving my 1985 single Cab SR5 4WD, straight axle, 5 speed, 22RE with 357000 on the odometer.... and in the same flat blue. Owned it since 1990. Bought a Tundra in 2003, but still drive the 85 more. No body work, starting to rust on bed, never had the head off, 3 timing chains. Fixed the TPS, IACV, EGR passing and it starts and idles nice, with strong pull from the start. It's so simple, straight, reliable, and functional. Restore, or drive it till it dies (it won't)? I'm learning to cope with it not being an extra cab after 29 years. Drive, drive, drive, oil change, drive, drive.
Great work gentlemen.
The styling on those 80's Toyota Trucks is still better than what they've got going on today.
Monster's Inc. AGREE!!!! They Used to Look agressive now they look feminine a lot
I think they were the best truck Toyota has ever made... before or since.
Best looking, most economical, best quality, insanely reliable, and fun to drive.
Modern Toyotas uphold their reputation for reliability, but these old beasts created it.
I beat the new V6 4.0 tacos with my nissan d21 2.4 Z24 on the freeway everyday
I guess Im kind of off topic but does anyone know of a good place to stream new series online ?
