Guys , FYI. In his fight with Andrew Golotta who quit the fight. The video talks about the cut over his left eye. Actually after the fight it was found that Mike broke the occipital bone ( eye socket ) , fractured his cheek AND separated his shoulder in that fight. THAT'S why Golotta quit
His trainer... HIS CORNER wasn't shit!!! You got those types of vultures everywhere... thank God that Golotta had the good sense to stop it before irreparable damage occurred
@Bad1Bear812 Yeah..... I mean, fuck his trainer's.... they would leave him for dead... and get a replacement snap- finger quick....fuck them (Andrew Golotta was smart to say fuck em)
#3 Gollotta , the fighter who asked his trainer to quit mid fight, actually had multiple skull fractures and had he not quit the fight there was a real chance he would have died from additional punches to his face.
My dad was a big boxing fan... they used to show the fights on cinema screens, at arenas. ..and you'd go like it was a movie.. dad, anecdotally, went to get a beer and the fight was over in 90 seconds
i paid to see Mike Tyson and Michael Spinks fight at a remote site. Went out for a beer, and people began to leave. I asked, "Its over?"... They laughed. I should of went to the night club instead of spending a 'night out money' for 90 seconds.
Same thing with the McNeely fight...we all posted up at the bar and we got there so early we actually had a table. We all went wild when the fight started and then it was over
I remember going to the pubs to watch Tyson fights. You would spend all day getting pumped up and all the matches leading up to the main event. Then Tyson would come out and knock the guy out in 30 seconds. It got to the point where no one even wanted to see the fights anymore because you already knew who was going to win and it was going to be quick!
I was born in '78. Still remember being in school, talking to my friends after every Mike Tyson fight. He was like a supernatural monster to be afraid of - someone that would hunt you in your sleep.
The last guy Jose Ribalta was the toughest boxers Tyson ever fought. That dude had an incredible chin. He ATE every single one of Tyson’s Devastating shots and got. His 6’6 ass up every time. He REFUSED TO BE KNOCKED OUT
10:35 Golota is Polish. He was a game fighter in his day. He had two fights against a very strong boxer named Riddick Bowe. He lost both due to disqualification. Golota was a terrifying body puncher who had a habit of landing low blows, which cost him the Bowe fights. Nevertheless, he dominated Bowe, who was considered an elite fighter in his day. By his own admission, "I (Bowe) need to thank him for punching me in my balls so much. 'Cuz that Golota boy was whoopin' my ass". For Tyson to retire that kielbasa-eating monster so easily and quickly was quite remarkable.
I say the Tyson, Spinks fight "live" in Kingston Ontario Canada at the 3000 seating capacity hockey arena on a big screen!!! I think it was $15 a ticket and in 90secs it was over!!! Elation.... to well, I expected a longer fight for my $15 but still great!!!
In the mid 1990’s I worked for a company that took orders for pay-per-view fights…at the time (1995-1997ish) it cost right at $100 for a Tyson fight. Not sure which fight it was but I processed more than 300 orders just me, myself and Irene. I remember it lasted less than a minute…or maybe 90 seconds at most. As soon as the ref counted to 10 our phones fucking blew off the walls…people were soooo pissed off LOL!!!
The GOAT? Huh? Ali would have massacred Tyson. Ali beat every type of fighter. Smokin' Joe would have beaten Tyson, too. Please. He was developing skill, then had a falling out with his trainer and became a knockout specialist.
Imagine watching nearly all of these fights when they happened, especially being my age at the time! For reference, I turned 12 in 1990. Good times they were 🙂
A trip to the hospital revealed how Galota had suffered, along with the cut above his eye, a concussion, a fractured cheekbone and a herniated disc in his neck. He knew he could not take anymore hits from Tyson
Michael Spinks was considered one of the greatest light heavyweight champions of all time. Tyson not only destroyed the undefeated Spinks but retired him, too.
I remember being in boarding school in the UK listening to the Tyson-Bruno fight on the radio. Being the only non-Brit, I was the only one rooting for Tyson that fight.
Mike Tyson in the early stages of his career was fighting about every 6 weeks after he turned pro. Cus DaMato made him into the machine he was in the ring. He was a heavyweight who moved like a middleweight. His head was always moving as was his body, Tyson was on a Ball, that's what trainers call it, because he was constant movement and punches from awkward angles to his opponents. Plus his most devastating 2 punch combo was right hook to the body, followed by an uppercut to the face/chin. Oh yeah, that fight against Larry holmes was a revenge fight for Mike. His hero Muhammed Ali was beaten by Holmes in 1980. Tyson promised Ali on a phone call from Ali to Cus D'Amato after he lost, Mike promised him that he would avenge his defeat. Ali was there the night it happened and was introduced and shook hand with both fighter, and whispered to Tyson, "Remember the promise" Tyson went out and destroyed Holmes.
People hated to pay for Tyson’s pay per view fights. They were over in a matter of seconds. If you turned away from the TV, you missed the knock out. I remember these days.
Mike Tyson le côté animal,la détermination, la foudre dans les poings 👊 les adversaires sur le ring avant le combat, dans le regard de l'inquiétude !!!😁
I'm the same height as Mike Tyson! When they rang the bell, I'd be out of there! I'd be over the top rope and I would run out of the arena! I'd keep running until someone could cut my gloves off... and then keep running!!! He is super scary!
Foreman was technically before Tyson, and there is video in an interview that Foreman said he was glad that he never had to face Tyson, basically because he was scared too.
Larry Holmes was old, he had barely 14 days notice for the fight which Tyson admitted was a big disadvantage for Holmes who was making a comeback and was very rusty. Later on Lennox Lewis smashed Tyson to a pulp when Tyson got a taste of what it is to make a comeback. Rarely, is the fighter better than before, often a pale shadow of their former selves.
Watch Mike against the taller guys. He gets close as he can, even sticking his head into their chest, so that the bigger guy can't hit him with a full punch. They are constantly pushing him away with their elbows, meanwhile Mike is landing an uppercut.
1:34 no, these are not professional boxers.. these men were all the top contenders and some of them were the undefeated undisputed heavyweight champions of the world and it didn't matter. He would go through them like paper
The stats here are wrong! For example, Tyson beat Frank Bruno in the 5th round in the first fight they had (his penultimate defence before being stopped by James "Buster" Douglas), he regained the championship with Bruno defending the championship in the 3rd round, not the 5th!
Just for giggles you should google “Myles Garrett high school football” if you’re not aware he’s an American football player and the photo of him next to his teammates is ridiculous.
You should see the sparring match between Ippo and Martinez. Martinez destroyed ippo with simple left hands. Ippo was the Japanese featherweight champion at the time. Ippo is based on Tyson and Martinez is based on undefeated boxer Ricardo Lopez who only lost once to judge’s decision and that was not even a title fight or a ranked fight. Lopez was a well oiled fighting machine during opening rounds but if he deems you unworthy he unleashes on you literally destroying any hope you have. Lopez has a 21 title defense streak and he’s won them all. Tyson likely could never figure out a counter and just fall like everyone else. Speed, power, technique, even pure skill doesn’t matter in front of Lopez as he’s beaten them all.

There was no shame in Andrew quitting. His corner was the real a-holes.
Thank you for elaborating. I was clueless on why he quit and I saw that fight but never went in depth on why so thanks for that.

Look up Mike when he was 15 years old he was a big boy then! I have to say I love living in Mike’s era!

It got to the point where no one even wanted to see the fights anymore because you already knew who was going to win and it was going to be quick!
For all of Tyson's power he was a student of boxing and watching film religiously. Studied styles and was a master.

If you’re gonna do boxing you have to check out the MickeyWard v Arturo Gatti trilogy. 3 of the most brutal fights you’ll see
I don't know about Tyson being "half their size" (classes are by weight) but he was usually shorter than his opponents. 😉
In the second Tyson v Bruno fight (TKO) Tyson hit Bruno so hard that it detached Bruno's left retina in his eye. A career ender for Bruno.
Michael Spinks was considered one of the greatest light heavyweight champions of all time. Tyson not only destroyed the undefeated Spinks but retired him, too.
