  • Original Diving MV Karwela Wreck. This is just a short clip of some recent diving down to the MV Karwela just off the coast of Gozo. We absolutely love this kind of diving! exploring the wrecks off the coast of Gozo is a constant adventure and a great place to be any time of the year. Though in this day and age you are highly unlikely to discover a lost shipwreck laden with Spanish doubloons, rusty chests full of rubies and pirate booty, wreck diving still presents one of the most exhilarating and unique experiences for divers. Wrecks often act as man-made reefs, and are home to an abundance of fish seeking shelter from predators, so an ideal place to see unusual or elusive species of marine life.
The MV Karwela is probably the most dived wreck around Gozo. More interesting than the MV Xlendi and closer to shore and larger than the MV Cominoland, she has some open passageways and swim throughs. The wreck is now fully populated with an overall coating of algae and marine invertebrates, and the sea firs along the rails are a popular feeding ground for nudibranchs. The largely calm deep water around the wreck also encourages the growth of some very large spiral tube worms (Spirographis spallanzani).
The scuttling of the ship was filmed for the Gozo Government and the video of the MV Karwela sinking has gone viral on UA-cam in recent years. Well this is what it looks like now and it really is an amazing site to dive!
