The learning a new language example hits home for me. The instrument example too. Fear, tension, anxiety and catastrophizing is like a language or story in my mind . The more I learn the new language and story of courage, safety and peace of mind the better I feel. Practice everyday, be patient and take it one day at a time. I wish everyone will find that peace of mind and peace in their hearts which creates peace in the body. State of mind and state of being creates physical conditions. Thanks Dan🙏❤
I'm a professional singer-songwriter-guitarist. I went through a 3-year depression About 15 years ago where I did not play the guitar at all. I was as good as James Taylor and Dan Fogelgerg on the guitar after close to 40 years of playing, and I lost most of it. Oh, you could tell that I used to be good by what I attempted to play, but it was a mess. Once I got through the depression I did the hard work of learning the guitar again. And now I'm even better than I was; but yes, it takes consistent practice. I keep my guitar on the wall, which is not as good as keeping it humidified in the case, but this way even if I'm waiting for my wife for 3 minutes before going out somewhere (or something like that) I can pick it up and play even for 2 or 3 minutes. Having it out, I play it way more often & consistently. Since I saw Dr Sarno in his office about 25 years ago (after reading this book Healing Back Pain) I have been successfully dealing with mind-body symptoms, and finding you was great because you are "old school". Much of what I was attempting to do for it lately didn't work for me as well as Dr Sarno's original book and realizing how much the "new" way of doing things was with a lot of focus and time each day doing visualizations and stuff like that. And I heard you once say on a video that you can't focus on this all day long or it's not going to get better. I agree. I've tried it both ways. Thank you for doing what you do and for being as generous with your time as you have been!
Only 3mins waiting for your wife 😂 made me laugh
@@1STBUCKLEY 🤣🤣🤣 best case scenario...
"Learning how to learn is life's most important skill" (Tony Buzan)
Or learning a language. I'm learning Welsh, and if I do some every day I get breakthroughs in understanding how the language works. And as a hypervigilant could-be agoraphobic, I know if I make myself go out and walk a little every day, I begin to lose the fear of doing it. Consistency is definitely the key!
I have a degree in music education and teach 15 or 20 students per week at my house. I tell them “10 minutes a day is better than one hour the day before your lesson” multiple times during the lesson. I feel like a broken record. Unfortunately, most of them don’t listen. 😉 Probably kind of like the people you try to coach on your channel!😂 As I’ve learned new instruments I know it’s absolutely true.
Anxiety hangover day 2 . Somehow I got out, I knew I had to go outside. Consistency so necessary. Panic attack when I got stuck at a red light, I actually contemplated edging my way over the crossroads ! Told myself I'd not be any safer over the other side of the road. Crazy eh. An hour at a time but not beating myself up. I'm just fatigued. My body know what to do.
I've just started on this journey and every day I enjoy these videos. There is always something I learn or need to know. I thought it was going to be very easy but I've realized it's a mindset but I'm determined to keep going. Thank you so much..I feel my life has been saved ❤
You are correct Dan! I'm a saxophone player and it definitely requires consistency. Building that muscle memory through consistency is vital. On a side note playing the saxophone is an integral part of my PDP recovery.
Same as learning to be a pilot. Many students do a 1 hour lesson once a week. By the time the next week comes around they’ve forgotten 75% of the previous week’s lesson. Better to be persistent and train often. 2 or 3 one hour lessons a week yields major results.
I’m taking the same approach with TMS. Putting in the work many times a day. It’s not a quick process but I do see the results. I’m better today than I was a month ago. A month from now I’ll be far better than I am today.
I used to to tai chi in a group many times a week, I loved it, we did swords and stuff as well. It started to get too focused on competitions, I didn’t want to participate so I stopped all classes and everything… For me it was about feeling good not “looking” good … i will find a way to start again 👍
💜
Constant dripping wears away the stone or as my Prof. always said, .... constant dripping wears away even the hardest cerebral cortex, meant from hearing, to really understanding, to knowing to wisdom....... Thanks Dan! ❤💫❤
So true ! Agree 💯... 👏👏
I used to be a vocalist - my voice was my instrument. Being on stage singing was just the "end result" - the chery on the cake... To get there took lots of regular practice, consistency, commitment and belief.... It wasn't just about singing but a whole way of being and embodying everything that went along with that..
For me the mental mindset was just as important and focused as all the behind the scenes practice / vocal coaching / fitness regime (for stamina and breathing) and health practices etc we did ...
I did it before - so now I can do it again with all I'm experiencing on my journey at this stage of my life...
Thank you for the reminder Dan.... ❤
Great analogy, Ellie! ❤

I love this! Its so true! I played the flute when I was younger, then in high school I probably did only practice one a week..I never got any better. If anything I messed up during performances and would sometimes pretend I was playing lol
I homeschool my three kids, and this is the policy I take with math. We only do around 30 minutes a day (sometimes less), but we do it year round. My kids are all A math students and we don't get many tears. 😊
I play guitar and flute, and yes, practicing consistently is key. The only thing I would add is that consistency is most important when you are learning the skill initially. Once you know how to do that skill well, it's kind of like riding a bicycle. It comes back pretty easily if you don't do it for awhile. Case in point, I was asked to play and sing at a friend's wedding at the beginning of May. I hadn't picked up my guitar for a few years, but as soon as I got it out, tuned it up, and practiced the songs a few times, I was back in the saddle again.
u r ze best Dan..hope i'll do better with unlearning pain than learning guitar 😂..50 odd years of practice and my partner keeps on telling me to rather try piano😅 thx for being here for us Dan!!!
Looking forward to the Lake view
I totally relate to this, Dan. I play button concertina for dancers, and if I know what we'll be practicing, I can practice at home. Frequently, they throw in dances on practice nights that they haven't done for a while, and even though I know the music, I have to do a quick revision before playing for the dance.
Im a musician and teach music and an artist though I don't teach that, to me, music listening or making it is a way to transcend the mind and its busy work. It has taken my lifetime to understand my own motivations and then share them. I try to give that information to others and help them understand that it is in the making of it, not for a goal but in an of itself is what matters, the magic is in that, then it all comes together, not as a parlour trick to impress others, or to gain the approval of others, but to connect to our soul or higher self that is beyond our busy conditioned mind. We can present things for others from our own state of mind and then what they take away is their own journey that only they are on, slow and steady persistence, not to win as such but to grow in our wisdom. You help many to this understanding.
Mind Body requires consistency. Thanks Dan. 🥰
Yesss learning to not be anxious
Practising daily both TMS and playing the clarinet.
I’m a drummer too but I also tinker with guitar. I’ll hear a song and decide to learn it. Even a complex song. I can play it great. Then I don’t play it again for a few months and try again and it’s a disaster 😂
So your analogy is spot on for me. Same with TMS. Has to be a lifestyle of acceptance mindset.
Your clips are great, I managed to fix all these thoughts during the day when I am conscious, but what if when you sleep your u consciousness takes over and you can’t be present to label the thought , and you feel anxious then?
Thanks Dan soo much
This is such a great metaphor! It goes further too though--consistency is a balance when you're learning something new. Like, yes, a little every day is best. But sometimes you need a day off, and if you're trying to practice all day every day, you'll get exhausted and/or burn out. For me as with so many, mindset is the most important thing. But maintaining a new mindset consistently can be hard work at times. Occaisionally I feel like I need a little vacation from the work. Just a day or a couple of days, before I come back strong. As long as those breaks are far outweighed by the consistency the rest of the time, it feels really important not to force it at those times. Don't know if that's just me though, I've always been someone who does best when I go really hard at things, but take lots of breaks and rests too.
You are correct. All day - every day is too much, nor do I recommend that. We can definitely try too hard.
I have not played in four years - due to not knowing what Illness I had. - now I have other priorities such as the gym finding a job and getting.out of the house.
Wow Dan… this one really resonated with me because I could see how I have been doing that for years where I’m consistent for some time and then I let it go, then I get frustrated and the cycle begins again because I had some sensations. This could definitely be key for me right now. Thank you so much and as always..you are an amazing coach. 🙏🏼☺️💜
Thanks Marly. You've got this.
I'm not a musician, but I found when I was learning to drive one lesson a week was no use. I needed to drive every day to make improvement.
I’m not a musician but I find the same to be true of my yoga practice. 15 min a day creates strength and flexibility vs 2 hours once a week. Huge difference with consistency. 😊
Thank you!!!
Yes❤ I'm learning a new score sheet bc the current one has the wrong music on it. Lol..love your vids Dan ty❤❤🎉🎉
Learning to play in instrument is much harder than maintaining the skill. I guess that I probably practiced about an hour a day every day to learn to play piano. I didn’t play for three years because I didn’t have a piano, I finally got a piano, I sat down, and I was still able to play. But it took literally decades of practicing an hour per day to develop it.
If you’re not in pain now, is there something daily I should be doing to prevent it from coming back?
Hi Dan a lot of your old messages focus more on emotional journaling etc do you not recommend that type of work anymore? I’d rather not go through my emotional pain with a fine tooth comb….. can I still recover from the brain generated pain in my body?
I’ll ask something stupid, I have pollen allergies and when I focus on positive, don’t think about it, talk to my body that it’s normal, it’s just pollen… and I feel like it helps me…
Am I crazy?
It's the same with singing. Like the old saying: "Practice makes perfect"
Dan, can you give any examples of 'safe' mesages? Or is just using the phrase 'I am safe' enough?
No, that is not enough. And, it's not about some catch phrase. Two videos that will help:

Can this work for TMJ and estutian tube problems blocked ears
Hello, I would like to ask you or anyone else, how you go about doing a physical job when you can barely move? What have people done? Not sure what to do because I'm going from 3-5 hours work to 8 hours, which is good but I am exhausted now and I know to tell myself it's ok, it's safe, etc but I don't know how to cope with all the pain and fatigue when I can barely walk. Does most end up on disability or what do people do for work in this instance? thanks
does anyone have an answer please?
Burning sensations are like learning a new drum fill for me, lol
Please answer my friend
Is avascular necrosis a tms
In this, there is necrosis of hip joint
Iam in pain
Thank You. 👏
Yes, I played guitar. Haven't touched it in years, tried plucking a ukulele in a shop and I sounded like I didn't know what I was doing. Now I get what's required for all of this!
