The simple and obvious answer is they never cared about homelessness, minorities, the difference between a 'normal' crime or a 'hate' crime (they really think we're stupid), this is all about business as usual - Power and Control. Once they have leverage over what you can say and what you can't, it's a pretty massive coup in my opinion... It won't end well.
Homelessness will not be ever sorted because it is not in the interest of politicians to actually fix something because if they did they would be out of a job, as would the people working in the dole offices and other waste departments.

Her responses were not answers. Both responses failed to deal with the lack of direct public consultation on the proposed legislation and did nothing to address the special interests of the NGOs who are pushing their own agendas via the legislation.

We live in a democracy which is defined as a system of government dictated by the will of the people. She is saying they consider many other factors when introducing legislation. They have ignored public opinion. The legislation is indefensible since they admit they have not defined hate purposely and therefore they can interpret it however they want to silence anyone they deem a nuisance. It is a direct attack on freedom of expression and therefore in violation of the Constitution.
We do not live in a democracy, we live in a republic
@@Athena621 Technically, you are right. But every republic that I know has multiple political parties and elections which dictate policies on an ongoing basis. Also, since Ireland's membership of the EU and signed up to the various treaties such as Maastrict and Lisbon, the influence of the Constitution has lessened. The EU is in charge now, unless we leave.

What also needs to be asked is this - is anti whiteism also included in this legislation. Bigotry, prejudice & hatred towards whites by non whites is hate as well. That aside, she is underwhelming.
The hate speech legislation is aimed at protecting certain categories of people in terms of race, colour, gender, sexual orientation and religion. So if you're white, heterosexual, indigenous Irish Christian watch out. It's designed to stop you having an opinion on immigrants, LGBT etc.

You are right, but you'll find that this dystopian, totalitarian piece of legislation provides zero protection for whites when they face hatred and prejudice from other groups.
