This is the BEST practical review of the inside core units I’ve seen 😃👍 I think having the two smaller units will allow more flexibility. Thanks for the info and for the link.
Robert Grenader yes true they are great for that too, especially with the large size to separate clean clothes from dirty clothes. They are very Versatile. Thanks for tuning in :)
Welcome :) glad you loved it and hopefully found it useful. Highly recommend this bag and their system I’m a big fan if you fancy gifting yourself something new during these times.
Hey Glen, I do like it that it is one piece instead of two core units, the side access is also available on the new medium core unit and that’s one of the biggest improvement on this bag in comparison to the Explore bags. I do love the side access to get my camera out quick when I can’t set my bag down. Thanks for tuning in and hope you are doing well during this time.
I’m not sure why this is “better” than what you had? According to Shimoda themselves, the medium and small are the same as the large...only now you can’t remove the small for days or jobs where you don’t need the large camera storage space. I guess I’m saying that the flexibility of the two core units is better than the large unit. Just my 2 cents.
Thanks, glad you found it useful. I never tried the shoulder strap plus, also I never had an issue with the regular straps, when it comes to comfort, that made me want to switch them out. Guess it comes down to your personal preference.
Hi.. I have just picked up my shimoda action x 30 size bag.. Still deciding about the core unit... My question here is will the large DSLR core unit fit into my X30 series bag or should I go for a medium core and a small core unit to fill the upper portion as you had on ur video but specifically for my shimoda action x 30 series bag... Thanks in advance
You can fit medium mirrorless v2 in this bag perfectly, and also you can do a combination of the medium mirrorless v2 and small dslr core or 3 small dslr core units stacked. So the large dslr core unit won’t fit in the action x 30. I got this info from their website if you wish to double check, www.ShimodaDesigns.com just choose your bag and scroll down for more info about core units.
@@FadiHage Appreciate your effort. I did come across this link too ua-cam.com/video/aMGRnJxmLH4/v-deo.html .. Well this large mirrorless core unit for x 30 series but not available until October.. Guess this answers the query.. But really appreciate your reply... Cheers
@@drfayazhamza3531 oh ya that would work too, large mirrorless core unit would work on action x 30 replaces the medium mirrorless v2 core unit and small dslr core unit into one unit instead of two. It all depends on your preference having two core units medium mirrorless v2 and small dslr is more flexible for lighter days vs fully packed or the other one is more easier just having one core unit if you went with large mirrorless core unit.
@@FadiHage thanks once again...Chatting and with ur videos really have me a better picture.. But jokes apart to take this with a pinch of salt.. WHY IS IT ALL SO PRICEY.?? 😀
I can’t comment on price, but it is a quality product and worth it in my opinion. Having said that, you can use my code Hage10 on Shimoda designs website for 10 percent off and save a few bucks :)
Not much, both setups work, I preferred just having one large core unit In there. It is really a personal preference, part of it was to show the difference between the two.
@@sashinger5230 at the time made sense, your right both work and that’s the beauty of this bag you can choose the icu core units that work for you and you got a few options.
@@FadiHage Yeah, I have the X30 and the X50 but only one core unit so far, the medium mirrorless. I figured I might get a DSLR core unit for the X50, so I can put the A7 vertically in it with that more in depth, because it would be much more convenient to grab on the go. Just didn‘t know if the medium or the large. But to see your initial setting tells me I can add a small one afterwards anyway. These bags are just amazing. 👌
They are plastic Lee filters lens cap that fits over my adapter ring for Lee filter holder so I don’t have to take it off the lens, you can find them on Amazon.
Thanks for this video. I'm trying to decide if I should wait for the Large DSLR core to be back in stock, or just order the small and medium versions. I don't see much difference. However, I too have the 100-400 on my Sony a1, so I wondered if those would fit for side access in the medium DSLR V2 unit?
Thanks, there isnt much difference between a large dslr and combination of medium and small core unit, the small you can always remove if not needed it is more versatile, I sometimes keep my 100 - 400 on my Sony a7r4 and that fits in the space for side access with the core unit so you should be fine with medium core unit and have that side access, since it is covers the same space regardless of which core unit.
Nice review! Thanks for sharing!! Just wondering here... using a medium + small core unit could be good in airports when your bag is extra heavy (you could take one of them out and use it as personal item). By the way, have you ever had a problem with airlines (bag size) about the bag size as CARRY ON luggage? Cheers!
Welcome, glad you found it useful, personally never had an issue with airlines with the bag with the gear as shown in video as carry on. size wise the large core unit is same as medium and small core unit combined except you can’t remove the small core unit and remove it with that configuration, so the medium and small core unit separate is ideal. Depends of your needs really, with the sleeve that houses the core unit, it is easy to take out one and carry it separately that’s for sure.
I was thinking about getting the new explore 2 with the large mirrorless core unit, but seeing that 400mm collar ring, I’m wondering if i dont need the deeper dslr core.
If you are getting the explore 35l which is what I have it fits the large dslr core unit in this video with my setup in the bag. You can also fit the new large mirrorless in it, I would go with the large dslr core unit just to be on the safer side. Also since the depth of the core unit of large dslr is 6.3 inch vs 4.7 inch for the new large mirrorless. Hope that helps
Hey, as of right now the gallery is on hold until a later time given the situation. Last thing it was at the first painting stage, one coat of paint. Now not sure when it will be that I can finish everything and if I still can pull it off, who knows what will happen. More updates on that will be in an upcoming video probably. Hope your well and staying safe for the moment. Thanks for checking in.
Hey Kate, the core unit is designed for photo equipment which is separated from the top of the bag which expands and collapses depends on how you put inside, you can use the top part of the Shimoda bags for clothing and hiking gear, and there is lots of straps on the bag to attach to outside of bag for some hiking gear too. I believe it is about 7 litres of space in the top space, but if you have less photo gear you can a smaller core unit and have more space for clothing as well as photo gear in the photo compartment. You can choose based on your needs, you can also get the 70l bag if you need more space.
It is a lens cap for the Lee filters adapter ring that allows me to keep the adapter ring on the lens and not have to take it off everytime. Here is a link for more info: amzn.to/2ySxdJ0

Good review, not many people with the Large core Unit.
Thanks for the video and discount code! I'm also using medium and small core units, and you convinced me to get the large core for my Explore 60.
Thanks Eric, glad you found it useful and congrats on your new large core :)
Hey also make sure to get the one for the explore bags, maybe you already know but hate for you to get the wrong one and won’t fit or something.
I have the Explore 60 with the Large DLSR Core unit. The zipper pouch makes a great dirty clothes container for my duffel when on Photography trips.

Just curious. Do the dividers have Velcro on them?
It is like Velcro on the divider ends, they stick really well on the material of the core unit and dividers.
