  • This video is based on a dialogue from the Katha Upanishad between Nachiketa and Yama (the god of death). For his third boon, Nachiketa asked Yama to explain to him the mystery of what comes after death. Yama's reply explains the core of Hindu Philosophy or Advaita Vedanta i.e the doctrine of non-duality. It explains who we really are and how to realize our true self.
    Story :
Vājashravasa, desiring a gift from the gods, started an offering to donate all his possessions. But Nachiketa noticed that he was donating only the cows that were old, barren, blind, or lame;[5] not such as might buy the worshiper a place in heaven. Nachiketa wanting the best for his father's rite, asked: "I too am yours, to which god will you offer me?". After being pestered thus, Vājashravasa answered in a fit of anger, "I give you to Death (Yama)".
So Nachiketa went to death's home, but the god was out, and he waited three days. When Yama returned, he was sorry to see that a Brahmin guest had been waiting so long. He told Nachiketa, "You have waited in my house for three days without hospitality, therefore ask three boons of me". Nachiketa first asked for peace for his father and himself. Yama agreed. Next, Nachiketa wished to learn the sacred fire sacrifice, which also Yama elaborated. For his third boon, Nachiketa asked to learn the mystery of what comes after death.
Yama was reluctant on this question. He said that this had been a mystery even to the gods. He asked Nachiketa to ask for some other boon, and offered many material gains.
But Nachiketa replied that material things will last only till the morrow. He who has encountered Death personally, how can he desire wealth? No other boon would do. Yama was secretly pleased with this disciple, and elaborated on the nature of the true Self, which persists beyond death. The key of the realization is that this Self (within each person) is inseparable from Brahman, the supreme spirit, the vital force in the universe. Yama's explanation is a succinct explication of Hindu metaphysics, and focuses on the following points:
The sound Om! is the syllable of the supreme Brahman
The Soul, whose symbol is Om is the same as the omnipresent Brahman. Smaller than the smallest and larger than the largest, the Soul is formless and all-pervading.
The goal of the wise is to know this Soul.
The Soul is like a rider; the horses are the senses, which he guides through the maze of desires.
After death, it is the Soul that remains; the Soul is immortal.
Mere reading of the scriptures or intellectual learning cannot realize Soul.
One must discriminate the Soul from the body, which is the seat of desire.
Inability to realize Brahman results in one being enmeshed in the cycle of rebirths. Understanding the Self leads to moksha
Thus having learned the wisdom of the Brahman from Yama, Nachiketa was freed from the cycle of births.

The background of this conversation is when Vājashravasa, desiring a gift from the gods, started an offering to donate all his possession. But Nachiketa, his son, noticed that Vajashravasa was donating only the cows that were old, barren, blind, or lame;[7] not such as might buy the worshipper a place in heaven. Nachiketa, wanting the best for his father's rite, asked: "I too am yours, to which God will you offer me?". After being pestered thus, Vājashravasa answered in a fit of anger, "I give you unto Yamaraja Himself!"[8]
Despite his father's repentance at his outburst, Nachiketa regarded his father's words to have a divine meaning, and consoling him, went to Yamaraja's home. Yama was out, and so he waited for three days without any food or water. When Yama returned, he was sorry to see that a Brahmin guest had been waiting so long without food and water. To compensate for his mistake, Yama told Nachiketa, "You have waited in my house for three days without hospitality, therefore ask three boons from me".

Notice that, there is sth common in all religions that is 1 and half letter word but it can't be chanted by our mouth. However, it exist like other energy. In sanatan dharma this word is called holyname (naam). Those who knows bible may have listened a bible verse "in the begining was the word, word was with god and god was the word".it means god form at begining was word form i.e. sort of vibration. Guru nanak dev has also spoken abt it as " adhi sach jugadi sach hai bhi sach nanak hosi bhi sach....waheguru satnaam" i.e. satnaam is truth and this truth was in begining, is present now and will remain in future.when we see common in this two verse, both means that there was sth, a type of vibration in the begining. In sanatan dharma lord krishna said that he had imparted knowledge to the sun in the begining before all the creations. Now just imagine, the sun does not have bodily form like we have and lord krishna at that time might not had human form as that was the time before any creatures and human body was evolved. So there is a question how could it be possible to transfer knowledge when giver and receiver both dont have human form? So the knowledge is subtle, subtle than any other form of energy like sound wave or light wave. We can say it is more subtle than any energy that science has discovered yet. This subtle form of energy is called primordial vibration. It was in the begining and was the creator of all energies (em waves), and materialistic world where we live in.Nanak dev has further described it as " sabda hi dharti sabda hi akash sabdha hi sabda vayo prakah sakal shristi sabda ke pache nanak sabda ghata ghat aache "i.e. earth, sky, light and all creations are manifestations of sabda (word) and this sabda is also inside living beings.so we say god is inside us and is omnipresent.Hence, its all abt that holyname ( also called bhramhagyan, aatmagyan in hinduism), word in christian, sabda( or satnaam) in sikh, and may be incarnations of other religions might have described it in their own way and language. Hence our perception of incarnations and religions being different frm one another is wrong.Essence of all religions is one and that is truth. People who want to know their religion must seek for this truth.

We need to Televise this again all over India for People to realize what truly matters in this Human Life, and to walk more on the Path of Spirituality rather than walking on the Path of Mindless Pleasure.

My take aways from the video...😊
There is a difference in calling someone Beautiful and calling someone Dear
There are 2 type of pleasure,
    Please of Senses
    Pleasure of Soul
Please of senses can be achieved by taking material possessions but this pleasure is short lived.
Please of Soul can be achieved by earning Credit.
One need to build something for which s/he is accredited for.
This is how the 'Shrey' will be earned and bigger changes can be brought.
Pls feel free to correct me, if you find my understanding flawed somewhere.🙏
