Don't surrender with a gun in your hand. That's usually not a good indicator to anyone that you are surrendering. Most people who surrender lift up clear empty hands. Ever worshipped God?
Harmless manner? The deputy only has to articulate that he was in "reasonable fear of death or great bodily injury". This suspect brandished a weapon in public view at a business, failed to comply with orders to stop from a law enforcement officer then produced a handgun that a reasonable person would perceive as a deadly threat. I believe the deputy acted in self defense. The problem we have today in the decay of our society is people in the community who excuse lawlessness and criminal behavior under the guise of appearing to be a "good person" for showing compassion on the lawlessness when in reality the thought process behind such positions is backwards, emotionally based and a clear cancer to a society that desires law and order to protect the law abiding public.
