Great video. I love watching the shutter in slow-motion. My daughter and I have this particular model (the Super B) and the one that once belonged to Lady Rose Talbot is on display here at Malahide castle. Daugter's works so far, mine looks great and has a clear lens but the mechanism is gummed up, possibly with a stuck self timer. Your video is the nearest I've seen to a teardown tutorial but I'll search for a more experienced repairperson before I have a go at it.

      That's interesting, thanks.
Unfortunately i'm not a camera repair person, just beginning to tinker internally with them though many mechanical time parts are similar to watch movements i'm finding, just larger and less susceptible to dirt stopping play.
You might be able to find a service guide for the camera but if in any doubt i'd look for a camera tech who is familiar with this model of camera.
I'd like to get this one working again but it's not high on the list due to the lens not being he best and numerous other waiting projects.

I've got one of these and the hyper difficult to repair Kodak Retina Reflex 3. Brilliant video.

Hello, I have two Contaflex's, a Beta and II. I always wondered why they seem to sell for so little, I learned today that the leaf shutters are notorious for being complex and unreliable to my surprise, considering Zeiss Ikon's reputation that is. I have never checked either of mine for reliability although I must have given them the once over when I purchased them a while ago, and I was rather worried. But you have put my mind at rest with your video 😁 so, thank you. I don't relish the idea of working on a shutter mechanism, but if needs must I will have a go. I recently bought a really nice DeJur D-3 camera made in Germany for an American retailer in the 60's, I got it very cheaply as the leaf shutter was seized, luckily the front lens was removable, so I was able to treat the shutter blades very carefully with nail varnish remover which worked very well in the adsence of lighter fluid 😜😁. Cheers.

When you consider the age of these things and how they're used and stored in less than ideal conditions I think they do very well but yes mechanical leaf shutters on all cameras can and do fail either gradually or suddenly and looking at the manual it's going to be a challenge as there's a lot of disassembly to take it apart properly.

In desperation a while ago I disassembled a WERRA 1 lens , then there was a prolonged illness in the family. By the time I got back to it, I had lost my notes and couldn't remember what went where 😂😛😇. I checked both the Contaflex's and they seem fine. Cheers, keep up the good work.

@@ianwilkinson4602 Ouch! That must have been frustrating. I've done similar with watch movements. If I've disassembled a project of my own then been working on others I often have to scratch my head to remember what goes where. Thank you.

@@ianwilkinson4602 Very kind of you, thanks but it's just practice, if you can work on a camera lens and shutter you'd be surprised at what you could do.

Oh ! Sir, you’re a Master™ ! Yes. An “Aventurier’ of the lost lands of these old german vintage photographic engineering technologies. Je serai bien incapable de faire cela. Je viens d”acheter un Zeiss ikon Contaflex Super BC… Le même. Not yet received. Merci pour cette vidéo expliquant la complexité ‘illusoire’ de cette machine. Laurent, from France.

Hi Sir my seiko 5 6106c is not working for long when wore it (it stops in 2 minutes). I have opened it and find it that my watch is winding in clockwise direction But In anti clock wise directions it moves anticlockwise instead of clockwise directions. I had screwed my watch main gear clockwise it stated working for a full day. Suggest me please what might happened. Thanks

Great stuff, I've got a few old film cameras. One of them seems to bridge the gap between the 2 hobbies, watches and cameras.
It's a yashica minister 3 rangefinder with a leaf shutter (it was stuck shut 🙄 but managed to get that working)
The interesting watch related bit is just under the clockwork self timer it's branded citizen

hello! brilliant video!! i have one of these ... sort of. i think yours is a cds cell? mine is a selenium cell. mine seems to be in perfect working order except the iris for the f stop seems to be a little slow when stopped down, so f16 might be iffy, but f11 or more open looks to work just fine. maybe some day i can work up the courage to take mine apart like you have. cheers, the Rabbit. =:3

Thanks for sharing. I also have one, I recently finished shooting a roll of film, and after replacing it with a new film, both the shutter and paddle lever failed. Do you know where the problem is?

Anyone have any ideas what might caused the shutter to be stuck? Mine was working fine until this morning.

    • @spidiq8
      @spidiq8  Рік тому

Usually it's dried or migrated lubrication, accumulation of dust etc which is why stripping cleaning and lubricating is needed.

how do you remove the first element with the lens to clean it?

The front element unlocks just like a bayonet mount lens
