One of my favorite things about the book series was how, in a world full of fiction that idolizes youth and kids, it was a story about the heroism of growing up, acting your age, and taking responsibility. The opposite of all the usual magical stories about the wonders of childhood; it was all about, in a way, the wisdom of adulthood. And it was this season, and specifically, this scene, that really showed me that the show had not forgotten that.
@@sebastyann123 Book and show share little except for name and conclusions. Stories usually end the same way, but the path is much different. For example in books Fen is minor character, she kinda is replacement for Poppy. Josh is major player in the book. Benedict doesn't exist in show (Or if he does i forgot him). Asmodeous and all of Julia's friends doesn't exist. Plum who is besides the Quentin main character in Magician's Land doesn't even exist in the show. For all who are wondering books are worth it. after 4x05 : "Well hello, big plot (twist) development about season 3 mess" (- Probably true reason of why Eliot is not going with Q in the boat quest - Q post-reject + post-depression key and conscious of his father imminent death, accepting to sacrifice himself passing the rest of his life with a monster - Eliot putting everyone in danger killing the monster because of a stormshit of regrets and guilt)
Loved this ep. It really showed that Eliot and Q can really just spend the rest of their lives together and be completely ok with each other. However, I would have been PISSED if I spent by whole life trying to solve this puzzle just to find out that the reason it couldn't be solved was because the most important piece was missing. And the only way I find it is by having to bury my best friend/lover.
I felt that they were saying that the beauty of life is life itself and only after going through life ( love ,lose ,friendship, marriage ect.) you would find the missing piece
then you missed the point that wasn't what solved it. it was them living a lifetime together there through happiness and hardship THAT was how they displayed the beauty of life the gold tile was simply a metaphor for them solving it thats why no ONE person had ever solved it before
I didn't take it as the beauty of life is life itself. That man at the puzzle when they first arrived had a life but he also gave up and moved on because he was impatient. He wasn't living, he was wasting time. The beauty of life is living. It's hard work and perseverance. It's trying one more time even if you've already failed thousands. And it's learning to not take what you have for granted. To love as deeply as possible and not waste time with shame or regret because it's not what society would define as "normal". It's also grief and loss because they remind us to cherish the little things, they allow us to love deeper than we've ever loved because time is finite for all of us, and wasting it is throwing away the opportunity to experience the beauty of life to the fullest.
The hardest thing to do in this life is to live it. Though the part I would be most angry about it after spending my entire life solving the puzzles I had to give up the key to someone that just arrived.

It made it even better after I watched it 2 years ago. Again the most beautiful episode. Live your best life!
