  • As voice recognition, AI tools, and computers in general get faster and more powerful, there is an opportunity for individuals to have more control over these tools... Or less. The opportunities for use and misuse are both very tempting, and the consequences will be severe.

Knew a couple expecting a baby. They frequented online retailers and did see some deals start bring offered for baby things, but nothing about cribs or bassinets. Until they visited a big box store to shop for one in person. They lingered in the baby dept, discussing in general terms the pros/cons of a crib, saying only things like "this is nice, the other is bigger" etc.... decided against buying one at that time but came home that very night and ALL their online retailer deals and promos were about cribs, including the one they were considering in the store. That's microphones, behavior, and geo location all working in tandem.

1974, I was in the Navy. My navy buddies and I sit around talking. Total taxation of Americans, considering every tax paid at any level of government, is around 15%. Switzerland, on the other hand, total tax is 35%. We all pound our chest and promise armed revolution if our taxes were as bad as Switzerland's. Then we talk about reports of a future bank money card. All of our money will be applied to a bank card and we will buy with that card, in a cash less society. We pound our chest and swear we'd never comply with something that would allow either the bank or the government to track every purchase we make.
2024, our total tax rate is about 50%. We'd literally be wealthy if the government in the US would get the tax rate back down to what Switzerland had in 1974, back to 35%. And that bank card? Well, my time is too valuable to stand in line behind 2 other people to get to a teller, or to drive to the actual bank. Of course no one is any longer paying me for my time since I'm retired. But still, I need my bank card so I don't have to stand in line.
    We have been assimilated.

I'd use a cassette recorder for taking down information related to the kinds of things you want offline, a paper and pen to flesh it out, and I wish you luck with that. There's no such thing as a free lunch. If you want something, maybe privacy, you have to work for it. That being said, as you look for information, you leave footprints that point you out. Humans have always been way behind in defense and remarkably skilled at offense, look at how we would dial into networks before we had authentication protocols, how we had bullets for much longer than Kevlar, and we had pox filled blankets long before Maxine, with a "v" instead of a "M".
I try to keep everything unplugged and keep my active phones in designated areas of my house. My offline devices and media storage are separated by distance and physical EM signal blocking. If I need to talk about something that I suspect goes against the grain, I make sure the person I'm with doesn't have their phone and we can go to the safe[r] area of my home. I don't have any particular threatening conversations, but still, I like to not stand out if I can

We are getting straight forward AI backdoor that will read everything on our devices over here now.🇸🇪 EU. Several of the political parties over here(🇸🇪) ran their latest campaigns with a No! for the so called "Chat Control" as a promise but after elections nearly all of them turned their coats and snuck through a Yes vote on the chat control law, during the height of summer when ppl had stopped paying attention, all exhausted by the political hullabaloo of the prior weeks.
So I was wondering what PC's will be called going forward with the Private aspect being openly gone with the wind. All ostensibly to combat the ravening hordes of Pedophiles running amok because obviously such persons wont just adapt. Also there will obviously be no chance at all for this to be abused or have dire affects for the future of the world. Freedom takes another, possibly lethal, blow.

Luckily there is a huge gap between archaic hardware that is running fine, reliable, and too expensive to replace and the latest chipsets that can support AI, are vulnerable to environmental conditions, and are interconnected to the point of exploiting human security lapses in air gapped systems. It’s just a matter of time before the old systems get replaced and we lose autonomy over basic human needs.

It's the iFly device--for the simple reason that it is easier to secure. With the Android phone and offline keyboard, there are still many vectors to your information being compromised. Additionally, you are exposed to any future changes in TOS or privacy policy that would invalidate previously true assumptions about that complicated system works and the data it shares. Even assuming malicious intentions behind the iFly device, you can operate it offline, choose to extract only data via a SD card, or only connect it to a hardened or air-gapped system.

So I've been reading thru the comments section, and honestly, at least in this case, I would go with the Chinese tech. Here's my reasoning. The data they get is probably not going to be very useful, at least not in the grand scheme of things. But the data that our own phones, apps, Google etc collects, more and more poses a threat not just to my privacy, but to my physical and monetary safety. We're living in a world where it says in your hiring agreement that anything with work apps on it can be considered company property and could be subject to searches at any time. That goes for your clocking in/out system, ADP etc.
Here's the thing, it doesn’t matter if you don’t think anything your googling or posting is suspicious, if it doesn’t agree with what they want, your livelihood is at risk. So many companies won't give your resume a second glance if you dont have any kind of social media presence, and at least for some jobs, they won't even accept your application unless you agree to record your responses to their questions, literally voice record yourself.
So yes, even though our government has raised us to believe 'China and Russia bad', we're all being controlled by our governments. Its just a matter of branding. Thank you for coming to my TED Talk. Apparently I really needed to get that out.

_The Road Not Taken_ by Robert Frost:
Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
    To where it bent in the undergrowth;
Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
    Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,
And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.
I shall be telling this with a sigh
    Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I-
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

Ackshually, in the real world, power is a product of conflict-theory, and in conflict-theory whoever is willing to maximize their power via violating things like morality/honesty/ethics will almost always win except for bad luck. It's not moral to be a silly boy-scout who plays by the rules and loses to the rule-breaking adversary, when there's no referee to stop the rule-breaking. Just how 'moral' is it to turn over the world to the darker competitor as you die in the process?? *Mature* morality recognizes the dictates of conflict-theory and embraces amorality howevermuch is necessary to defeat the adversary who has a lesser morality. Then you use the dominance that the victory gives you to impose a greater morality onto the world. Anything else is just the naivetee of a loser. In order to be that kind of loser you'd need to have a faith in something divine that's somehow going to make things right, despite real-world losses. And in the real world even the most devout Christian needs to admit that there's zero ACTUAL EVIDENCE that such a divine power exists, let alone that we can rely on that divine power to intervene to make things right. If you want to be tortured and murdered by the NWO like Christ, go ahead, but don't try to drag the rest of us down with you. We want to fight the fight by whatever means are necessary for the more moral team to win in the real world. We can't afford to have the morality of children. That's exactly what the creepy power elite of the world want, as they take over, because we are that gullible. (They aren't Christians, by the way. They're another group that we're not allowed to talk about. Christ did, and got killed for it. They got Christ killed, and now here we are with them ruling the world from behind the scenes, preying upon the child-like 'morality' of western Europeans. They realize there IS a 'middle ground', which is why they win and we continue to lose, like sheep to the slaughter.)

If it's connected to the network or its operating within distance of a device that is (difficult to not be the case these days), there's drastically reduced privacy. So much so as to essentially assume there is no privacy.
If it isn't connected to the network, it can indirectly become connected by, again, operating within distance of a device that is.
If it isn't connected to a/the network and isn't being used within operational distance of a device that is connected, the singular device itself is probably inert beyond its functions.
The issue then becomes the things that are connected to the network: you, the user.
If the device allows for changes in ways of thinking, that thinking follows patterns. Those patterns become increasingly predictable with increasing resolutions of refined accuracy the more they're used.
The network can then influence behaviors that curb alter or negate the benefits the disconnected devices provide.
To quote RAtM's lyrics: 'we don't need the key, we'll break in'
A direct approach becomes reduced so indirect approaches are used. To not use is to reduce competitiveness, subsequently to lose ground, and to find ways in otherwise..
..if the purpose & function is.. ..to find a way in.
Privacy is dead.. or so far along in its dying as to be functionally dead.
The issue then doesn't become whether or not it exists (or, as is increasingly the case, doesn't), but to whom has access to where privacy is assumed, how those assumptions are abused or/and violated.. or just incorrect.. and whats being done with it once breached and by whom it's being done.
The founder of Buc-ees son has recently been charged ..again.. for violating his house guests' privacy ..again.. by having hidden cameras & mics installed in bathrooms & bedrooms of his personal residence.
Subsequently observations made during those being used. Another movie that could be quoted here is '90's movie 'Sliver'
Even there, a cellphone used in a private bathroom or bedroom utilizing apps while connected to a network also breeches that.. especially where they are used to gather information for marketing purposes .. as given permission to via agreed upon terms.
All of this says nothing about law enforcement installing & utilizing warranted surveillance means for their investigations.
Keeping a phone in the kitchen and watch charging as well reduces what's in the bedrooms and bathrooms but where bedrooms and bathrooms have smart tv's and web connected toothbrushes with sensor laden toilets monitoring excrement to connect with health apps largely takes it there again.
Reminds me of that scene in John Lithgow's '80's movie The Manhattan Project where one of the investigators was noting behavior change potentials due to the number of cavities his dental records showed he'd had in the past year.. and what books he'd been seen looking at at the library let alone checking out. ..all in those characters' attempts to reign in potentially dangerous activities.
Catch-22 but by & large, the capabilities available to investigators is only going to increase as competitive necessity necessitates advancements in desired human serving technologies.
If kurzweil is correct that 98%+ of human thought is pattern recognition and we're increasingly developing advancing tools capable of refining the refinements in those patterns, then even without very much input directly, more & more will be a foregone conclusion.
