I met Robert and the guys from Solitude Aeturnus, back in 2006 when they came to Greece for 3 gigs. My band opened for them in 2. We had gone in a tavern to eat souvlaki and I remember how John and Robert mocked the name Candlemass, they were calling them Candlewax. Couple of years later he ended up singing for Candlewax! One of the greatest frontmen in the doom scene, and S.A. my favorite band.
Each brought their own unique flavor. Johan was the ultimate epic doom vocalist, Messiah gave the band a larger scope, the dude who sang on the Sabbath worship albums gave them part of the Sabbath sound they were going for while having charisma of his own, and Robert Lowe was their charismatic everyman singer who was wicked talented while also having a down-to-earth edge that the others lacked. Mats and the dude who sang on their fifth album are kinda generic though, despite their talent.
OH? hell no, given that it is a matter of opinion I must say that Robert Lowe has a metal voice BUT, that's where it stops, OK? when darkness fall in paradise it will be Messiah Marcolin who will ring in the final chapter of this wretched life. enough of that, now yes Robert Lowe can sing because I definitely can't but Messiah Marcolin's voice is the definition of end's time prophesy.
I don't know who was the first but this song is great. I like the official performance by Messiah more than this one, but it's not a reason for another holywar, I think.
@nikkisixxfan86 Yes, and I say thank god for that! Although this version is also pretty sweet. Why is it I like the other vocalists all better than marcolin? lol
The dude's an amazing vocalist, but he's the most different of their singers. He's actually my favorite, but I can understand why other fans would be off put by him.

It was Johan Längqvist, Messiah joined the band in 1987 ;)
i like it especially, how it is different
This is my favorite song by them, I didn't think it was possible for the EDM original to be better but this is some awesome shit.
great song
the one and nicest candlemass singer: Johan Längqvist.
none of the other candlemass singers felt it right....
Messiah Marcolin is also a great

wow thats crazy good.
Fkin great!!! \m/
Johan and Messiah were totally different, no way to mistake
i agree.He made "earth to earth, ashes to ashes" sound less awkward.
I always thought Messiah performs it in Epicus Doomicus Metallicus

Underrated comment. Very poetic, very doomish
Tell me whom is better vocalist messiah or lowe, I think lowe.
@Malikarcanum I think that riff is from the Messiah-era.
Almost better than the one on Epicus Doomicus Metallicus.
i think it's better than epicus doomicus metallicus. Robert Lowe is pretty good and the new riff is just GREAT!
It's worse, though I won't say it's bad as it's own song. It's just a bad cover of Solitude from the band who made the song, which is weird to say
I cant help but picture Gargamel from the smurfs singing this
Why has no one sung this song on THE VOICE??? :P

me too
@rag0n93 What new riff?
@nikkisixxfan86
Yes, and I say thank god for that!

This is pretty good, but I think the original is still the best.
hahaha now when yo say it... its fucking true
the official performance isn't by Messiah
seuke tunne et ise laulaks
yeah. but i like messiah marcolin AND robert lowe better than that guy.
Lowe has his moments. Not to say he is a bad vocalist but in all honesty, i do not like him in candlemass.
