I am going to ask a few companies to send me some cheap wheel and pedals and do a test on them, maybe they will, maybe they won't but no harm in asking, it would be good for you guys to hear me test them. If you do buy a wheel try and get one with at least 900 degrees rotation, 1080 if you can, it makes a huge difference.

The racing games on vr are insane. I couldn't believe it. Only been back pc gaming after about 10 years of gaming solely on consoles and I think I picked the perfect time to come back. I never in a million years thought that I'd ever get to wear a vr headset and race around a track using a steering wheel/pedal combo and actually feel like it was real. It's turned me into a 44 year old kid. Makes me grin like never before. Also makes me nearly shit my pants when I crash. Oh the fun😃. Love your reviews by the way.
This is my first proper sim racing game with a wheel after playing racing games for years with just a pad. At first I was spinning out and understeering all over the show. Getting there slightly now, but what I love is that I can feel the progression in my driving as my lap time's get better and as I go whole races without losing control. Such a brilliant/rewarding game!
Mack: 1st thank you for all these unbiased, authentic, in-depth reviews (especially the racing game reviews). You are my divining rod when it comes to my racing game purchase decisions! I'm hoping you do a review for Forza 7 since it will be coming out for PC soon. I WAS a Forza fanboy until I played Project Cars 1. I'm curious if Turn 10 stepped up their game now that Slightly Mad Studios dropped the bombshell that is Project Cars. Though I've played racing games in VR (which I agree with you, you can't go back.) I unfortunately have to, as my VR experiences are on friends setups. I just bought the deluxe edition dirt cheap with 80% off. Looks like my patience has finally paid off. I don't own vr or steering wheel but own all the NFS and crew games on ps4 but none of them has put a smile on me face like the way project cars2 put. There is really something about this game that brings the inner child out of me when I used to play with toy cars hidden in my school bag.
For those, who notice the "bad" graphics: It's because he plays it in VR. If you play games in VR mode they downscale the graphics a lot, so you can have the 90 fps on both screens of the headset. Every game does that. Pop in LOD and depths graphics are always totally different in VR than "normal" mode. You'll noice it, but the VR effect is so good most of the times, that it doesn't bother you that much. :)
VR is brilliant for games that simulate something where you are sat down. For example driving sims or flying sims. VR falls down when it's a game where the character you play as needs to move around.
I'm glad to see VR supported on day one. I agree with Mack here. It just blew me away. I can't go back to a monitor after switching to a Rift headset for the first game.
Mack, I hope you will be reviewing PC3... The bold claims they make and the words, the words of the devs (and CEO Ian Bell) are "this is a gamechanger". Looking forward to your review of PC3 :-)
Only issue is, the game does have a bit of bugs.. i hope they fix them soon.. most of the bugs are with VR and the skip to end of session button. The VR on rift sometimes will have quick flashes.. its not game breaking but it is annoying and I believe they know about it and are fixing it. Second big one is sometimes pressing the skip to end of session if you are in the pit box, it will throw your car violently around the garage damaging it and bugging the game where a restart is needed. Also hitting skip to end will cause the lap times of the ai to change drastically even if you do it with 1'minute left, and you have the fastest time. It will put you to last place and the ai will be faster by like 5 seconds than they were. Then there is the AI, they drive on a rail and if you are in that line they will ignore you and smash right into you ONLY if you have aggression set ABOVE 45. 45 and below the ai try to avoid you. Other than that VR is amazing ive put in over 50+ hours already.... love the game just hope the bugs are patched..
Played this in VR with a steering wheel and hydrologic seating thingamajig at EGX Macketh and it was incredible........i was utter shite at it but it was incredible. I would've loved to have seen you have a go
Considering that you provided their original title with a glowing review the only conceivable reason that the devs didn't provide you a copy is because you've been branded a "wildcard", which is an industry assigned title to people who can't be expected to provide preferential treatment to a game that they have been given a free code for. Sterling has done a whole Jimquisition on this. I hear you on the VR and for racing sims, no it's not a gimmick, but for everything else I still think it very much is a gimmick. Before I pay for a headset I'm going to need Ready Player One levels of immersion across all titles. Is that a high demand on my part? Yes it is, but for $500 up front just for the headset and hardware I need before I start dishing out money for the games that's the sort of return I need before I make an investment.
Racing is awesome in VR and so is everything else. There's no hiding from this fact. Showed a mate over the weekend and he bought a Rift the same day, remodeled is spare room for VR the next. What was the last game you played where you said 'wow' 'fuck me' 'this is incredible' etc etc every 5 minutes? Get your head out the sand, your hand in your pocket and stop holding PC gaming back.
Cool, your friend *with* *money* bought the Rift and remodeled an *entire* room for VR because he could and he was in his right to do so. And the poor people like me who can't even afford to buy games day one and as such are reluctant to purchasing a VR headset are the problem with the industry and the reason why it is being held back and preventing others from playing games the way the want to. Considering that you actually went out of your way to attack the poor guy in the room I am going to assume that you are in fact a self-entitled asshole who feels money is no object and finds it so inconsiderate for people like me to express money concerns.
You didn't say you were poor, you said VR was a gimmick and that was the reason you weren't dropping $500, so don't give me your noob, fallacious argument bullshit. Facts aren't an attack, they're just facts. Lies, bullshit, butt hurt reactions, name calling and insinuation, now that's an attack.
Fair enough. I agreed that for race sims VR is not a gimmick and your response was that I had instead used a blanket statement to see that all VR is a gimmick. Then you proceeded to say that my head was in the sand and that *I* was in the way of progress. That is insinuation.
Cherry picking words and rewriting what I say. You're doing a great job! Internet for idiots 101. You said '...but for everything else I still think it very much is a gimmick.' I never said anything about a blanket statement and whether it was blanket or not had zero bearing and what i was saying... so... 'duh' and 'WTF nub?' I did say 'Get your head out the sand.' because your head is in the sand. In fact your fingers are in your ears, your head is up your arse and your arse is buried in the sand. Listening to the shit you come out with I think this is how you've lived your entire life. We have the next big thing, what TV was to radio and you just want to justify your own moronic, arbitrary and ludditish stance (which you now blame on poverty) to yourself. WOW!! This argument is far too moronic for me. See ya Billy!
Agh, If only I had VR and a wheel... I already have a joystick, space games in VR seems like a dream as well. Sadly, saving up is hard when you're renovating and the first kid is coming around :(
I play on the PC and played the first PCARS with both a wheel and a controller and never once had any problems at all, the wheel was slightly quicker but not enough to really make that much of a difference and it was fantastic fun with both. I've recently been playing PCARS 2 with both and to me at least the controller felt better in the first game, I've had more fish tail slides using the controller in this game than I ever did with the first although that may be me needing more practice with the physics/handling model. With the wheel though its just fantastic, I only wish I could try it with a Rift or Vive....
Hey Mack. I am a Sim Racer, and have to admit that part of the community are really fanboy toxic about the sims that they don't play. Hence the shit storm by some of them toward PCars2. Anyway, great review and love your enthusiasm. And you're right, when you go VR in these games, there is no going back!
Only stumbled upon your channel the other day, love it! I've watched loads of your videos and seem to agree with everything you say, I'm an old fart too though lol. Wish I'd seen this particular video a few weeks back before I bought Forza 7! :( You are now my go to reviewer :)
I hope they've fixed the motion blur problem from the first Project Cars... I really wanted to get stuck into that game, but I couldn't play for more than half an hour without getting a splitting headache. I messed with the FOV a lot, but it made no difference.
Another awesome review. I love this guy. Game makers take note of UA-camrs influence, as he alone has made me want to buy this more than any crappy advert would of done.
Mac I watched all your racing reviews. Please tellme your stance on Gran Turismo sport? I'm on console, please advise what racing sim is better for PS4?
Why do we put up with being sold Steering Wheels and Pedals for racing sims? I say we just put PS4 controllers in cars and be rid of this foolish circle and stick scam.
Mack is quite literally the first reviewer I have seen even mention the Pit Crew Set Up helper thing. Now, I expect that from IGN, but I've seen the ISRTV and Gamer Muscle reviews, and neither did. That feature alone has put PC2 back on my wishlist, it is something I hope I can learn as a skill that I can carry into other sims.
This is why I subscribe to Mack: no sugar-coated, B.S. reviews :) I like his work so much that I watched this video even though I have absolutely no intention of buying any racing games. They're just not my thing, unfortunately.
Great review Mack, same as on PCARS 1. You know to appreciate a great racing sim with tons of flexibility. Although I get your point against shitty "reviewers" and I fully agree, ACG doesn't deserve hate in my opinion (I assume you were targeting him regarding music and voice, that's just a strict reviewing format he's following). Not a fanboy by any means, but you and him are among my most trusted reviewers on UA-cam. Cheers!
You did an excellent job describing people like BlackPanthaa. Guy can't drive for shit, yet he's telling people not to buy PC2 and go for arcade games instead. All because he struggles using a controller and is not allowed to go in the opposite direction. Ridiculous.
i watched him years and years ago dude should keep his sim racing opinion to himself forsure i doubt he would know how to set up deadzones and stuff without google help :D
I still play the first game with a keyboard, and honestly although hard you get used to the control scheme, although at some point a wheel and pedals i am going to buy for that immersive gameplay.
Another great review! I can't wait to get Project Cars 2. I bought an Oculus several weeks ago, and it's transformative! Playing Project Cars 1 in VR is mind-blowing, especially on the Nordschleife! I had a 3-screen setup before that, and I could never go back to using it after VR. Now, PC2 is out and looks AMAZING! I'm pumped! I'm using a fairly basic Logitech G27 wheel and pedals and it works well, too. The VR was worth the investment far more than a better wheel and pedals. If you love racing, buy a VR kit - worth every penny.
For some (stupid) reason, I thought you'd hate this title. I have no idea why though. Maybe because the AI is shite! 😜 I bought it this morning, I was going to wait for the reviews of F7 because the Demo was ....Pretty good. But, I was looking through their respective track lists and I saw 'Historic Spa' That was enough for me. I have done way too many hours on that track with GPL and I have to say, the track is just incredible in PC2. It's the same but it just looks amazing! For sure, the AI need a ton of work (imo) but yea, the 'Sim' is pretty good right now. Cheers matey, love the reviews, keep em coming! **EDIT** The patch they released Yesterday has made a big Difference. It's still NOT Perfect of course but it's made a difference 😍
Currently playing with a controller. Its fun but I can tell a wheel and pedals will be so much better. I'll be putting funds together to get a Fanatec Wheel and Pedal Setup ASAP!
Mack, I have a CV1, I have a 1080 and I have Assetto Corsa. Very much tempted by this, especially after your review (same age group, expectations etc..)but what I want to know is, take away the night/day and weather.. How does it actually 'feel' compared to AC. I bought PC1 when it came out and loved it in the DK2, but when I bought AC, I never played it again. Are they compareable in a realistic feel?
If you have a mainstream wheel and not some obscure £1000 contraption then it will be supported well in this game and tbh the FFB is amazing. AC is a great game but I prefer this as it has way more depth to play with on the cars and tracks. It's very hard on some cars Formula A for example, I have read loads of people claiming it's got tyre bugs but it's actually about learning to feather the throttle and lengthen the gear rations to keep the back end from spinning out when you hit the throttle. Both games are very similar and both drive well so tbh it's more down to the extra content with PC2
coppermine64 ive got a cv1 1080 and i5 7500 also like you i prefer asseto corsa over pcars 1 but this game for the most part is very similar i tried the zonda r at nordshlife (laserscanned) in both sims and was staggerd at how close they felt i have a thrustmaster tx . what this has over ac is the range of content im loving both titles and highly recomend p cars 2
Even though the AI is shit in some cars on some tracks, when it works it works beautifully. The thing I like the most is that they don't take any shit. In other racing games the AI usually gives way or even slows down when you try to overtake. If you bump a car in Project Cars 2, he'll bump you back. If you try to overtake you'll have to fight for every inch. I've never had this kind of wheel to wheel racing against any AI I've raced against before.
Ohhhh booooy I am excited for this. Still trying to save up for wheel and pedals, but now I also wanna get a 144hz monitor. I will probably end up getting the monitor first since I don't have VR anyway.
VR took seconds off my lap time immediately. My vote for "best cheap wheel" is the T150. Can be had for $250 with the upgrade pedals included. I'm interested in how you compare ProjCars 2 vs 1. I liked Assetto Corsa more than PC1. Curious what they changed from 1 to 2.
Just bought this game and a thrustmaster rx racing wheel. The force feedback is really nice. But, i apparently suck at racing on pc. I can not keep the car on the road if my life depended on it. How do you guys do it? I started my career with karting hoping it would teach me how to race with a steering wheel but i cant even win the first race. This is getting more frustrating and less fun every try. If i run over a grain of sand my kart turnes around completely. Am i the only one that sucks this bad starting out? I used to play nfs back in the day with a ffb wheel and i won everything without problems but these days i cant seem to finish the track. Anyone got any tips?
Kart isn't good to start with really. Try GT3 for example. Try searching youtube how to set up the game and how to race. Most importantly be slow and smooth with your inputs, you really need to drive like in real life in this game.
Great review. Definitely convinced me to pick it up, but i'm gonna wait for a bit of a price drop because there's so much stuff coming out right now! I like that you focus on the important stuff and i totally agree that it's quite frustrating to watch some "video game journalist" who plays with a pad and have never even sat in a real high end car comment on how "unrealistic" and "inconsistent" the handling and physics are.
What wheel and pedals did you say you were using? Couldn't quite make that out. I'm a bit shocked that the typical price is $400, which honestly is way more than I'm willing to put out for one game genre.
Can confirm, just brought it... Joypad, no steering wheel, no vr... And its fucking awesome as fuck Custom races had me for 10 hours, just started campaign.... Delighted Thank you
Been waiting for a game that will justify me buying a full wheel, pedal and shift setup to go with my oculus, think this might be the one! Looks great and good review as always.
With Vr, in cockpit view, do the cars in front of you still seem to just drift/float instead of turning? This happens to me with all non open wheel cars in the first game.
Nice review. I'm just not that hardcore of a racer. Get PC2 if you want a racing sim or Assetto Corsa. Both amazing sims. If you want to just race around casually, get Forza or something. It's more my speed, but I love the fact that hard sims are being made, that can provide a really good level of fidelity.
not on topic, but we should start some kind of Mack movement of similar mindset gamers, kind of like opposition against trends publishers are pushing gaming sector. I was in development of PCARS BTW, this game is the perfect example how to do game by listening to community, independent studio created WMD crowd funding and showed EA that they can survive without greedy publishers, this story should become the example for the future of gaming. The other honorable mention is NWI, creators of Insurgency, no publishers but huge sales on Steam only with very dedicated community.
I one played PC1 in VR at the Gamescom, and fuck it you are right, this was the best gaming experience I ever had. Also the Sim Genre has a really big potential for VR i think.
Finally a review that will make me get this game! straight to the point! I like driving in quick race and experimenting with different cars on different tracks and conditions the most anyway

Yes Mac - I was just going to ask for exactly that!
You just made few people from the dev team (me included) smile :)

Where can I get a good pedal and wheel for a good price
Its 2022 and I am loving this game. I am not that keen on Project cars 3, but PC2 is right on the money for me
As a simracer and also as casual gamer, i have 2 small things. *no virtual mirror in cockpit cam *saving setup everytime is tedious. Great game!
Great review Mac, the only channel I'd trust for a racing game review
You said '...but for everything else I still think it very much is a gimmick.'
I never said anything about a blanket statement and whether it was blanket or not had zero bearing and what i was saying... so... 'duh' and 'WTF nub?'
I did say 'Get your head out the sand.' because your head is in the sand.
Nice review Mack. I'm not into racing games at all, but wow how things have come on over the years.
Hey Mack. I am a Sim Racer, and have to admit that part of the community are really fanboy toxic about the sims that they don't play. Hence the shit storm by some of them toward PCars2. Anyway, great review and love your enthusiasm. And you're right, when you go VR in these games, there is no going back!
What's the best wheel for this
Only stumbled upon your channel the other day, love it! I've watched loads of your videos and seem to agree with everything you say, I'm an old fart too though lol. Wish I'd seen this particular video a few weeks back before I bought Forza 7! :(
You are now my go to reviewer :)
I hope they've fixed the motion blur problem from the first Project Cars... I really wanted to get stuck into that game, but I couldn't play for more than half an hour without getting a splitting headache. I messed with the FOV a lot, but it made no difference.
I love simulation games, I don’t use the race line but I understand how racing works so I can play these games very well
Another awesome review. I love this guy. Game makers take note of UA-camrs influence, as he alone has made me want to buy this more than any crappy advert would of done.
Awesome video Mack! VR FTW!
Agreed about VR. It's next level gaming and everyone should save up and get it. Every time I strap it on I'm amazed at how beautiful it is.
the real question is...can i have a black bisexual woman as my racing engineer?
FCPwins What???
hahahahahaha!
Anyone have experience with steam controller though? Does the gyro motion detection feel good for wheel turning? Does force feedback work?
Whats the graphics and advanced graphics like in the options?
Mack is it better than the first?
I've got to say you positively surprised me with the intro here! outstanding review of the game. bought it whilst watching this vid!
Do they have Chevy and Dodge??
Mack is quite literally the first reviewer I have seen even mention the Pit Crew Set Up helper thing.
Now, I expect that from IGN, but I've seen the ISRTV and Gamer Muscle reviews, and neither did.
That feature alone has put PC2 back on my wishlist, it is something I hope I can learn as a skill that I can carry into other sims.
This is why I subscribe to Mack: no sugar-coated, B.S. reviews :)
I like his work so much that I watched this video even though I have absolutely no intention of buying any racing games.
Cheers!
How much do you have to spend for a good Wheel and pedals (model?) and also - How much do you have to spend on a good VR setup?
How are the keyboard controls tho
You did an excellent job describing people like BlackPanthaa. Guy can't drive for shit, yet he's telling people not to buy PC2 and go for arcade games instead. All because he struggles using a controller and is not allowed to go in the opposite direction. Ridiculous.
i watched him years and years ago
dude should keep his sim racing opinion to himself forsure
i doubt he would know how to set up deadzones and stuff without google help :D
I still play the first game with a keyboard, and honestly although hard you get used to the control scheme, although at some point a wheel and pedals i am going to buy for that immersive gameplay.
I'm so glad they added proper multi-render triple screen support this time. That's one thing that stopped me enjoying the first Project Cars.
I bought it this morning, I was going to wait for the reviews of F7 because the Demo was ....Pretty good.
Thanks Mack. Yeah I have a G27.
coppermine64 ive got a cv1 1080 and i5 7500 also like you i prefer asseto corsa over pcars 1 but this game for the most part is very similar i tried the zonda r at nordshlife (laserscanned) in both sims and was staggerd at how close they felt i have a thrustmaster tx . what this has over ac is the range of content im loving both titles and highly recomend p cars 2
Great review. What type of Wheel and Pedals are you using? GDA 300? GT 8300? I can't tell what you said @ 4:27
Even though the AI is shit in some cars on some tracks, when it works it works beautifully. The thing I like the most is that they don't take any shit. In other racing games the AI usually gives way or even slows down when you try to overtake. If you bump a car in Project Cars 2, he'll bump you back. If you try to overtake you'll have to fight for every inch. I've never had this kind of wheel to wheel racing against any AI I've raced against before.
diminished Ai shite in Forza, they drive into you on a straight as your alongside !
Is the vr for pc only?...
Ohhhh booooy I am excited for this. Still trying to save up for wheel and pedals, but now I also wanna get a 144hz monitor. I will probably end up getting the monitor first since I don't have VR anyway.
I have raced since Nascar 2 and Gran Prix Legends, Porsche Unleashed. This and Gran Turismo should be
a treat?
Just bought this today really looking forward to it!
It's 9.99 now
What wheel and pedals did you say you were using? Couldn't quite make that out. I'm a bit shocked that the typical price is $400, which honestly is way more than I'm willing to put out for one game genre.
I chose that Merc car too for first play thru . GFX are mint
Can confirm, just brought it...
Joypad, no steering wheel, no vr...
And its fucking awesome as fuck
Custom races had me for 10 hours, just started campaign.... Delighted
Thank you
Been waiting for a game that will justify me buying a full wheel, pedal and shift setup to go with my oculus, think this might be the one! Looks great and good review as always.
You are so spot on with this - you took the took the words right out of my mouth!
With Vr, in cockpit view, do the cars in front of you still seem to just drift/float instead of turning? This happens to me with all non open wheel cars in the first game.
Will you WAB Divinity Original Sin 2 Mack?
Sim races are the type of people that play the game whilst wearing driving gloves.
Looks like a nice game to me. Need to know if there is V8 Supercars before i might get it.
Mack what racing wheel and pedals did you say you used again?
Hi,
Sorry to ask, but what driving wheel did you use, i did not understand that properly in the video, thank you
Thanks for never selling out Mac. Thanks for always being honest and unbiased
Cheap steering wheel? I don't know any decent that are under 150 quid. Someone help me
Not a big issue but the draw distance in the wing mirrors is awful 😅
The outro song? something remember me cranberries or hero of war from rise against
not on topic, but we should start some kind of Mack movement of similar mindset gamers, kind of like opposition against trends publishers are pushing gaming sector.
I want your excellent channel grow brother! Keep it up!
Hey Mack are you going to do a wab on divinity original sin 2?
I one played PC1 in VR at the Gamescom, and fuck it you are right, this was the best gaming experience I ever had. Also the Sim Genre has a really big potential for VR i think.
I've never really gotten into racing sims, but this makes me want to buy a wheel/pedals.
And I have the vive, so this might be the game to play.
Finally a review that will make me get this game! straight to the point!
I like driving in quick race and experimenting with different cars on different tracks and conditions the most anyway
