This is the greatest improv comedy Ive ever seen. Its almost unexplainable how batshit everything he says is and yet it all makes sense in the context of the charachter.
@@liquid7315 No, that material was pre-written, re-written, proofread twice over & re-written again, acted out in rehearsals over & over before being filmed, and then they did 7 or 8 takes to get the best shots. I think the always sunny thanksgiving dinner is on the same level. It’s just so great when you get a table of talented improvisers working off each other.
I'm from southeastern NC and, like a few others, the moment I heard Joey begin speaking, I knew he was the real deal. You can't fake that accent no matter how hard you try. In fact, I had this strange feeling that I actually knew him, though in reality I just know a lot of people like him. The accent, the cadence, the drama with which he was telling the story all seemed so very familiar to me. After a little bit of time online chasing down cast names for this episode, here's what I think is the scoop: His name is Joey Brinkley and he is, indeed, from southeastern NC. From either Sampson County or Duplin County (and which are, indeed, counties adjacent to my home county. No wonder I recognized that accent right off!). It appears that he is just a regular guy who managed to get a gig as a background extra and, while hanging around the set between scenes and talking to the writers, impressed them so much with his funny tales that they decided to write him into the script. Pretty cool. And yes, as a duck hunter as well, I can agree that the story Joey tells is pretty accurate, though I've never been in weather quite THAT cold. Something tells me Joey's story is from his own experience.
If I remember correctly from listening to the commentary Joey and Jody Hill have a mutual friend (From NC obviously) Once Jody met him he was determined to get him on the show.
I have no idea how the producers/directors/whoever could so consistently cut out the funniest parts of a show but these guys somehow managed to do it countless times.

"I looked down on my hands.. I had them old cotton jersey gloves on" "Oh oh, I dont like where this story is going" ...When Ashley's originally the one saying he should say the story again. The entire dinner party scene with all outtakes is comedy gold
I always ask how the hell will Ferrell can stay in character in these hilarious situations, there isn't a comedic actor that can make you break character like him, will Ferrell holds a record when it comes to this profession
You should see Righteous Gemstones if you believe that lol. BJs bath scene and the naked fight alone are insane but no one got cancelled and that came out 2023
"Part of it. Still in. And then I looked around and said 'Man, I have got to have some wiping paper. I need some striking paper." "Mhm. Did you have any with you?" "Didn't have none." "Had none?" "NONE!"
I love that the dinner scene was, like, 25% of the episode before they cut it down. I have a feeling that Ferrell, being an executive producer, made sure the crew spent entire days on his scenes, just to see how much insane/awesome stuff they could come up with.
"Oh, woah! I need one more. MAMMII ! (slaps mammii's butt as she walks away) I want some that Rump Roast later on." That whole dinner scene was hilarious.
“Stevie here... this little angel-faced mongoloid” LOL Will Ferrell cracks me up

"I'm all full of Fanta tonight" had me rolling
Ashley hoped up on owange soda 😂

He had to do his paperwork. That's what we call wiping your ass Round Here.
The dinner scene has to be one of the most underrated of all time 😂😂
yo facts lmfaoooooooooooooo
the fact the fat guy talked about shitting in the swamp in the dinner scene is the he mow funny scene i e ever seen
The whole episode is by far, my favorite of the whole series..
The way he regaled us with that tale, it blew my mind.
Striking paper?
It should have been Schaeffer in Django Unchained
😂😂😂😂😂😂
Your mouth and mind is made of pure, solid, gold.
Bro that would be the greatest thing ever
Ah hesll yeah for sure
Never thought about that, for real!!!!😂
Will ferrell is made of stone. He almost never breaks character and can ablib anything
Him and Danny McBride lmao the whole set really.
I can feel it in my plummmsss
AD LIB, not ablib (AD, not AB! And it’s 2 words, not a compound word. ABLIB?! Like he uses his ABS when delivering lines? 😂

microwaveMYsoda The Schaeffer Show

This should play on a constant loop at the smithsonian.

You sir are a genius. If only. God bless you and your family.
ricopaulson1 thanks
A family can be any number of anything. That is the beauty of the term, family. 🤣🤣🤣
It's like Colonel Sanders and Ric Flair had a kid!

Yeah that accent is authentic as it gets
If I remember correctly from listening to the commentary Joey and Jody Hill have a mutual friend (From NC obviously) Once Jody met him he was determined to get him on the show.
The accent sounds just like London cockney in brief flashes.
Brian Faircloth Damn right! He's definitely an ENC local. I'm from Craven County myself, and you're right....that accent can NOT be faked.
Can't believe they didn't leave all that into the episode version! Priceless

Everyone drinking wine while Ashley Shafer is drinking a fanta 🤣🤣🤣
And Joey drinking the ‘Dew
Ashley's already heard the story, but still egging him on the whole time.
"Mammy's family has been in my family for years...just so you know" LOL!!

It’s now 2024, and this show, Will Ferrel, and Danny McBride, would be cancelled on the strength of the dinner scene alone. Well done.
