Hello Mattby. You say you're an amateur grower but by the looks of your dowiana you have become a professional very quickly. You have done a great job with this one. Once they have become conditioned to the conditions you have provided they will become quite vigorous growers ......I keep mine more dry than wet and make sure the roots are dry before nightfall. Thanks again for your #CareCollab video and have a good Sunday, Ed.
Oh my god! Thank you so much! It means a lot to me coming from an experienced grower like you. I will definitely keep in mind to let it dry in the evening. Can't wait to hear what tips you share in your video!
Your warm set up and good care are paying off 👌 Your dowiana looks amazing, the leaves are growing so much bigger everytime and that new growth looks so vigorous. Your Cattleya rex is looking wonderful and growing fast...
Thanks a lot for watching! Both of them took a while to get used to my environment but now I feel we're getting along pretty well haha. Really proud of their progress - do you think I can expect flowers soon-ish?
Love your growing area! As well as your dowiana... its a strong young plant youve got there. Good progress! Rex are sooo simular to dowiana in both care looks and the difficulties as well. Always nice to watch your videos! Talk to you soon :-)
Thanks a lot! I'm really happy with the progress on both of them. I feel I found a good way to maintain them in my environment. Thanks for stopping by haha
@@MattbyNature The light level part in your video was interesting, these guys ( Rex and dowiana) has got the exact same difficulties and most likely the same care guides...
@@MattbyNature aha so theres really an app for measuring lux as well!! Oh dear 😅 But I discarded my good old iPhone in favour of samsung galaxy 10 now, what a dirrerence in video quality!! Well I guess Android gas got the app as well for downloading, I will check! Thank you!! 😀😀
Lovely. I am always impressed with the gorgeous lip, the markings ate amazing. Haven't gotten one yet, as I can only find them seedling size at really high prices, si I just bought other stuff. Ahem, I know I was happy a few weeks ago I hadn't bought anything yet, but I went out and bought a BC. Amethyst, a Vandachostylis Pinky 'Red' and a Saracenia purpuraea venosa.
I love the flower as well - can't wait to see mine get there. I don't quite get why these are so expensive sometimes. I literally payed 8-10€ on mine from Schwerter. HAHAHAHA! Nothing like a little shopping spree, eh?
@@MattbyNature Oooh, that's cheap, I found them for over 30 Euro. I just bought 3 plants instead😅. And yeah, love me a shopping spree hehe. I had them on my time buy list saved, but I was putting it off. Good thing, too, I got the Pinky half off now. I bought my first Neofinetia recently and it's doing well, and I like the growth habbit it has. I also like Vandas, but t don't have any, due to their growth habit, but this hybrid is small, compact and it doesn't need to grow bareroot. And Amethyst looks gorgeous, the spidery flower shape is gorgeous and, supposedly, it smells great, like the C. purpurata.
Yes! It really took me by surprise. I think it really needs a lot of light and warmth to get going. Maybe you can join for the future updates on the dowiana!
ABC... do re mi!! 🤩 you are welcome! 👍🏼 wow... you have a vigorous one! So small and maturing one growth, and already starting on another?! Nice! Must be those fabulous lights that you have, the warm feet... or it just is a Matt pleaser! Thank you, so much for taking the time out of your busy schedule to do this video!! 🥰 enjoy a well deserved Sunday 🌸
Hahaha! Honestly, I think without the lights I would never be able to grow these plants under my conditions. Pretty sure my neighbours think I have a weed farm but hey. Thanks a lot for starting the carecollabs - it's such a nurturing community! Have a nice Sunday as well!
Your plant is looking nice so far. Great video! Where in Germany do you live? The sheath is normal. The outside dries and then you can pull it off carefully.use can also use pebble trays for additional humidity. I have a one by my Begonias and they are so great!
Thanks a lot! I live in Northern Bavaria. Good to know. Usually, the sheaths turn brown but on some plants they turn black - not sure why. Yes, I was considering to add some humidity trays - so far I just mist them once or twice a day
Umm, is that the Phalaenopsis sitting behind you on the windowsill? Have you warmed up to it or you just wanted to be surrounded by plants in bloom and had to relent and put it there? 🤣 I hear horror stories about dowiana rotting its roots if they don't dry out quickly. I've got the two little ones (the one was literally a deflasked plantlet, it is finally starting to size up a bit, boy was it tiny) planted in coconut husk and they don't dry out quickly and seem to be just fine. That may be because my temperatures are sufficiently warm all the time. The larger one I recently bought is in a faster drying medium and I'm not in a hurry to repot it because I want the darn thing to bloom. Your rex is looking great! Sadly mine did not produce a sheath on the newest growth so I guess I will be waiting until next year.☹️
HAHAHAHA! This pHaLaEnOpSiS was a gift and I keep it around because the flowers smell like lily of the valley. I don't really invest any major care into it - it just grows and blooms. Don't expect to see more additions to this collection though. I feel like longer humidity might be fine not only because of the temperature but probably also because the plant would be used to it if it's been transplanted from a flask right into coconut husk. But definitely the dowiana is not a major root producer in my hands. I'm so proud of the rex! Do you think both of ours might flower next year?
@@MattbyNature Hard to say if your rex will bloom next year. My large one was bought as a blooming size division so it is a bit disappointing that it didn't bloom for me. Size wise, it is much larger than yours, but I'm not sure how large the bulbs need to be before they bloom for the first time.
@@michaelmccarthy4077 William Green (My Green Pets) told me earlier this year that mine might bloom next year if I'm lucky but most likely the year after
I look forward to seeing it bloom someday
