- Fam... it’s honestly crazy how much has changed since we filmed this episode a week ago. Back then talking about my mom’s home remedies seemed like a fun and light-hearted topic. While the subject of health is more serious now, the truth is that even as most of us stay at home to #flattenthecurve, we still need to worry about our health! Even just for every-day things like the common cold or a freakin’ cold sore. But I want to be explicit that these remedies, while meaningful to Mai family and potentially helpful in mild cases of what we describe in the video, are in NO WAY intended to be used as treatments for COVID-19. VIETNAMESE GREEN BEAN DESSERT (Chè đậu xanh)
Ingredients:
• 1 cup DRIED MUNG BEANS (soaked and cooked)
• 1 cup DRIED GREEN BEANS (soaked and cooked)
• 14 oz COCONUT CREAM
• 3/4 cup ROCK SUGAR
• 3/4 cup ALOE VERA
• 2 cups WATER
• 1/2 cup SEAWEED (shredded and soaked in warm water for 20 minutes)
Combine and cook for 1 hour.

Hello Hunnay with Jeannie Mai I do steam inhalations as well . I take a bucket of hot water put in 1 tablespoon of Vick’s Vaporub in there and cover my head with towel and inhale. Don’t forget to close your eyes it will burn
Chopped onion sauteed in nonstick pan with honey for cough or congestion. Let it ferment in a bowl with lid and take spoonfuls of it throughout the day for 3 days🥰
Asian parents: go to school, be a doctor
Also asian parents: no need to ever go to the doctor I will concoct something with random ingredients so a doctor is never needed 🤣

I make fresh ginger tea for my husband every time he has some problem with his stomach, or has a cold. It’s Vietnamese remedy.

The bruise thing is actually not so far fetched because in Mexican culture they "heal" you with a raw egg and it is believed that when at the end they break the egg in cold water and if there's red or black dots that means your disease or problem "went to the egg". :) And in Slavic culture we bathe little babies in water with raw eggs for the same reason. :D

When I was 14, I got into a fight at school. They kicked my ass and left me a black eye. Next day, suspended from school I went to get my eyebrows done. The asian lady that was doing my eyebrows said to roll a boiled eye on my eye to heal it faster. It worked. 🥰 mama mai reminded me of that time 😅

The one with the lemongrass, we do the same in Cameroon. My grandma used to do that everytime we had allergies or we got a cold. Also, we drink the lemongrass with lemon, ginger and honey every morning . It smells good and is so gooood

I love the lemongrass steam hack! My mom is Thai and used to make this amazing chicken soup where she put a whole chicken in, a bunch of turmeric and lemongrass in it. It smelled and tasted amazing. She did it every time I was sick and it made me feel LOADS better.
