I have read the book and “I need to immediately implement these thought into my life!” comes naturally over the time. Certainly one of the most needed reads in this era of modernity and social economy that has evolved around our humanity. Thank you for the work and the insights you have put into this book! warm regards from Indonesia!
Great summary. I loved the Four Thousand Weeks book. Living in my retirement years, the book has given me a clearer focus on what's important and helped me talk to my peers about these important matters.
Hi Oliver, I am reading this book right now and I like it. When I heard you talking here on the joy of missing out I got the idea how it is related to meditation. I think it might happen that when you meditate for a long time you might developt this joy of missing out, at least thats what people hope for I guess. Its like you see the reality of life and realize you will never get it all done. It feels like a deep insight and it would be cool to implement it without the need of x hours of meditation. I will try it.
I CHOSE to stop this video from playing because it was so boring and shallow. I also wholeheartedly disagree with some of his conclusions. We CAN get on top of life. Don't give up and don't let people like Oliver Burkeman's pop psychology tell you otherwise.
The thinking that you can get on top of everything is the problem itself. I don't deny that we can get better at getting things done, but what I do deny is the human delusion that we can get everything done. Oliver is saying focus on the most important things.

These insights are very realistic and liberating us from the pressure of always being as efficient as possible and on top of everything we do.
