i can't watch this song without first watching "Heartland" from the same DVD where they are walking around Elvis' house and Larry sits on Elvis' Harley. i like Larry's comments and as soon as he stops talking, while Larry is standing in the Elvis garden looking at the spot where Elvis is buried, the programmed sequencer arpeggios (the intro to Bad) start up, then they cut to the Edge on-stage and the song starts
EVERYTHING is right with this version. Guitar rocks, bass is powerful, Larry's drumming is bloody epic. Just the best ever version. I never tire of this version.
Totally agree...a few bands live, when they add those little nuances...are just sublime. U2 is one. This performance will forever be a masterpiece. Saw them live in Sun Devil Stadium, Tempe AZ 1987 (the Rattle and Hum performance) and it will be forever a highlight of my life.
In fact is from a real world where a former friend of Bono, of 21 years old boy died of an heroine OD. But as a song is just perfect. Still freezes my blood everytime i listen to it
not only is this the best U2 song, this is the best "version" of it (from the film Rattle & Hum) i listen to this in my car every single day and watch the dvd once a week in 5.1 dolby digital i heard that Adam never plays this song the same way twice. even if you go watch the "rare" version of this song from the 2nd night, he adds in some of the bass notes from the studio version. i think it sounds better this way. this is perfection from all 4 members. i even got my sister into it and she usually hates live versions of anything
@@johneisenheim184 The version of "I still haven't found" on this album (film) is also mindblowing. That woman that sings with him is amazing. This is without doubt my favourite album of theirs
R Thrall I always felt the rattle and hum version sounded better than the wide awake in America version. Bono’s voice sounded more powerful and the repeated “no no not fade-away” part was powerful in 1987.
I remember Listening to the Rattle And Hum Cassette tape with a Limited number of Songs and This Version of the song Was actually one of them. But I guess it was only for that cassette Tape

I’m not a huge U2 fan... I like and respect their talent for sure don’t get me wrong, but this is one of the best performances of any song ever. Excellence captured.
Disagree. He messes up the cadence of the song, as well as sings in the wrong notes and incorrect tones. Half the time he's trying to replicate the studio version, then he's speeding or abbreviating the words.
The perfect version of „Bad“ is on the Live from Paris 1987 - Album!!! And bono says that the studio version wasn‘t done - not ready for people to hear it and that this song just live comes alive :)
I say this without hyperbole: I believe "Bad" - is one of the most powerful, moving, and beautiful works of art.... ever created (Including all of Music, Film, Literature, Poetry, Paintings, and any other artistic medium). I may be biased, because this is my favorite song of all time; But, I think it's only my favorite song, because I realized how incredible it is. This song literally changed AND saved my life, when I was going through the worst times of my life. It infuriates me when I hear people mocking U2, and trivializing their music, and their contribution to the 'Pantheon' of great songs and albums. Especially because people from my generation/age group (I'm 26), are the ones who LOVE to bash u2. This generation gets off- by criticizing, and being cynical towards any artist that tries to convey emotion and passion, in their art. NO person, that is honest with themselves, can truly say that songs like: Bad, Pride, One, Sunday Bloody Sunday, Still haven't found, and ALL of Joshua Tree... are not great songs. War, Unforgettable Fire, Joshua Tree, & Achtung Baby - are ALL Masterpieces. Any person that doesn't think U2 is one the greatest of all time, needs to listen to Bad. **Btw - Eddie Vedder LOVES Bad, and even said that it is "the greatest song ever written about addiction".
Bono often ad-libs different songs in the middle, but I've always thought the Stones Ruby Tuesday/Sympathy has best matched the innocence/darkness "If I could, you know I would" theme of the song.
I went to see U2 this past year for my 14th birthday. It was one of the greatest nights of my life, they are definitely the greatest live band ever. When they played this song it brought me to tears because I was so excited and where the streets have no name is just an amazing song in general. I’m graduating from 8th grade this year and for one of my requirements, I have to play a solo on my cello and I am playing a solo on my guitar for extra credit. I decided to play where the streets have no name on my cello and Sunday Bloody Sunday on my guitar. My parents have been playing their music my entire life. U2 is my favorite band ever. Simply a masterpiece...
Yeah, like for me I'm two months coming out of an emotionally abusive relationship. Sounds random, but so many of these lyrics - the desperation for them to love you freely, so far you are willing to loss yourself - just like all of it. The isolation, the revelations, being wide awake and not sleeping, literally and figurateively. Just really cool how it can apply to literally anything
Probably my millionth time watching this performance since the age of 7 and now I am turning 40 in December. I still love this album as much as I always have.
La mejor versión de BAd de U2. Es un verdadero poema da la banda. Un sentimiento de espiritual . Es una canción que conecta de manera espiritual y mental con la banda. Algo único en la vida de cualquier ser humano. Comparte este sentimiento¡
This is how I want to remember Bono!! His voice is incomparable 💕👌 If I have to go to a concert this days I'll picture them in my mind exactly as this album Rattle and Hum. The best
Imagine playing live like this and knowing deep down that you are the best band in the world right at this moment. And they were just warming up with decades to go! Amazing music, Thank you my Irish cousins.
@@kamalasheiress4035 To me they are the musical equivalent of a prime Michael Jordan right at this moment. I remember watching Rattle and Hum in my teens and this blew me away … over 20 years later, still one of the best captured performances ever!! Truly Majestic !! ❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥
I still remember the first time ever watching rattle and hum and this song coming on. No piece of music I have heard before or since has ever captured me and ripped me straight to front and centre and held me captivated quite like it. It’s one of the most amazing pieces of modern music ever created and while so dark and emotional has the ability to lift u up and leave u with such a sense of euphoria. And yet other versions of this song whether live or studio loose something. This single performance takes a great song and lifts it to much greater heights. It’s like it was written and never reached where it was meant to be. Something missing and unable to put your finger on it until u hear this performance, the emotion and energy plunged into it puts it in context for the first and only time.
After receiving a prestigious music award, Bono was asked to say something to the fans. He looked at The Edge and said "Edge, what do you think?" His reply was EPIC "We're STILL in our High School Band!" Crowd went nuts after hearing it!
I love the edited version of this on The Best of 1980-1990 VHS. They took out the Stones medley and that makes it the most perfect version, imo. Bono was at the height of his vocal powers on The Joshua Tree tour/Rattle & Hum/Lovetown.
At this time no one new that this band would be as big as they are. I saw them last year at US Bank in Minneapolis and that concert was sold out. People who love their older stuff call them sell outs. I truly believe if they would have not evolved their music they would have died out with the other 80 bands
