I'm from Gaza and still there, I lost half of my family members, my house, my university, my friends, and my dreams. Hind was a 6 year old girl who was murdered by the IDF very sad story heartbreaking. The college students in Columbia university took over a dorm and renamed it Hind's Hall.
Not knowing about the worst crime on humanity and ignoring it is just horrific.
It's time we educate ourselves , there's a lot we could do .
My seventh grandfather was displaced from his land in 1948 (Nakba) and came to Gaza. To this day, we are still displacing from one place to another. I wonder when this nightmare will truly end!!
Hind Rajab (Arabic: هند رجب; 2017/2018 - 29 January 2024) was a six-year-old Palestinian girl in the Gaza Strip, whose killing along with six family members and two paramedics coming for her rescue by Israeli forces during the Israel-Hamas war received widespread coverage. Hind and her relatives were killed on 29 January while fleeing their neighborhood in Gaza City after the Israeli military issued evacuation orders for the area. Their bodies were finally recovered 12 days later.
Forensic Architecture mapped a total of 335 bullet holes in the Kia Sedan they were killed.
Over 15,000 children have been slaughtered in Gaza in the last 9 months. 21,000 are missing under the rubble. You don't have to be political to know this is wrong. And if you're a rapper, a poet, an artist... it's your birthright to reflect the world as you see it.

And as infrastructure has been destroyed it has been getting harder to record deaths, so that is likely an underestimate.

I do activism and I think there is a misunderstanding of what activism looks like. You covering the song is a form of activism. Sharing your learning journey is activism. This song was created after Macklemore came out and made a similar statement you did in that he didn't know what was going on. He went silent a bit as he educated himself and then came out with this. People can only do what they can do. What are you supposed to do? You can talk about.
very much this‼️‼️ I didn't know much about palestine before October, but there are so many people sharing news about what's happening on the ground, spreading this song and talking about can be activism, whether on a small or large platform, it's never to late to learn more, even just sharing a link or a story can do much more than you think!
Agree, I'm physically unable to get to protests and so I am on social media wherever I can be to try and spread the word, learn and educate people. I'm in Australia and hate what our government are doing

Macklemore was moved to make this because the US fund a huge amount of defence for Israel. Whether rightly or wrongly, US taxpayers' money is being spent on bombs that are killing civilians in Gaza, and the protests were really focused on pushing back against their government's role in the war. As you say, we can't always change everything, but that was what they were trying to influence.
So many innocent people dying on both sides. It's awful. It's never the powerful people fuelling the war who suffer most.
Hind was brave and beautiful and won't be forgotten. She deserved to live, as do all the children caught up in their countries' wars.
Two of the names you mentioned (Tom McDonald and Jordan Peterson) probably are opposite to Macklemore. At least on this particular issue. I'm not one to say "stop listening to the other side..." by all means, hear out those supporting Israel/zionism. But just give those supporting Palestinians a similar listening.
You do that, and I'm confident the pro-palestine side will win over your heart and mind.
Going into the world of politics, I was never the most ardent Israel supporter, but I was mildly on their side starting out listening to mostly CNN, some MSNBC, some Fox News and some radio. All 3 of those TV networks are largely pro-Israel. But once I broke out of that cycle, and started listening to other independent news and politics channels on UA-cam from various perspectives, it didn't take long for me to start sympathizing with the Palestinians.

To reuse what others are not using anymore and make it look fly for cheap. Unbranded and bought with 20$ max. Conscious Consumerism in a system that is fully gripped down. And then you have other songs that push activism. Activating your desires to better where you are.

PS. Please check out about Hind Rajab. The 6 yo girl whom been murdered by Zio occupation army along with her family. She is the last one whom lived in her family car before got killed too. There's the recorded of her last phone with Red Crescent worker, we can hear the shooting and her scream. Few days after that she was found along with her death family in the wrecked car with her body riddled with bullets. Its horrific. 2 Ambulances that been sent to help her also got bombed, killed the drivers. Colombia University use her name to renamed the Hall in their university and Macklemore use Hind Hall as the tittle of the song to support the students movement.
We don't need people to do... we just need them to speak up for what is right.

Thank you Anthony for reacting to this song. but i would like to highlight some of the lines Macklemore has said at the end of the song "what if you were in Gaza! what if those were your kids!!" that make you realize that we're all connected to this cause and should support Palestine by getting educated and not letting the media block the real content and spread the word about the genocide, because we're all responsible in front of those who die if we kept silenced.

One thing EVERYONE can do is boycott companies that are directly funding and supporting the occupation. Check the BDS movement to see what are the targets to focus on. Another thing that is free is raising awareness, sharing, educating and putting pressure on politicians.

The little one witnessed way too many wars as a teen, and when he moved to the US to spread his message, he was traumatized by the fact that his family was experiencing a genocide in Gaza ..

The real struggle of being human- trying to figure out how to feel ok about forcing yourself to ignore the suffering of others to hold onto whatever comfort and peace you have for yourself and your family. You cant even be aware of all of it, theres so much, on so many levels, in so many places. Thinking about it is painful and depressing, it distorts your ability to behave normally in society. But to actively make the choice to say "me and my family being comfortable means more to me than other people being able to even live, its tough.
I didnt know much about the middle east or what was going on in Palestine until I saw this song and decided to take the dive, put the extra weight in my bag of useless sadness and learn about the conflict. In a nuttshell, it appears to be some generational trauma ish- the jews endured the holocaust and then figured they would holocaust someone else. But really it was just Britain getting the jews out and using their religion as a way to smooth it out. Its all about money and power now with religion being the scapegoat, classic shitshow. Its horrific and I cant believe our country lets isreal run us this way. Its quite insane when you look into it... 😔
If you want a deeper understanding, works and interviews by Avi Shlaim and/or Ilan Pappé are good starting points. Both are historians. One is Jewish from Israel and shares what he learned as he dug into the history of the country. You don't have to stop there or hold their opinions, but it was definitely eye opening views for me.
Like you said, you can have your opinion on Macklemore and his music but even to speak about this and shedding some sort of light to the truth is the right thing to do.
