    I lived there for 25 years. Migrated in the early 1990s. After my third day, I called Immigration and Citizenship. I told the lady I wanted to return my documents. She said, "Why. I told her it's too cold, boring and ugly. She beg me not return the documents. But she's willing to give me a permit to live in Jamaica without losing my status as a permanent resident. However, I had to return to Canada at least one day before the permit expired. I did that for almost three years. Until an immigration officer suggested that I should try and get the five years and apply for citizenship. That's what I did. To survive the boredom and loneliness and I joined the Jamaican Canadian Association. I'm volunteering my time, and I found a good Jamaican church family to worship and fellowship. I left Canada after 25 years for Texas.

      Wow! I love this story. Honestly, if you don't have a strong support system in Canada it can be very difficult mentally. You have to find ways to maintain your mental health. I left Atlanta to Canada 30 years ago and it was the best move I've ever made. But what I needed the most was a good mentor. I learned the hard way and this is why I'm giving back through mediums like this. Thanks for your perspective.

    Hello I enjoy your videos. I saw the video where you said you could sleep in Barbados with your door open. Please do not spread this information, because of statements like this people have been robbed and worse doing that same thing. The crime in Barbados is heavily suppressed to keep it attractive to tourist. The false sense of security makes it even more dangerous for tourist and locals because they are not aware of the crime situation. I would suggest you take the video down or put some sort of disclaimer. I was personally robbed last year on the South coast of the island. I know people in the police force on the island and they have admitted that if the media did not suppress crime, people would be afraid to leave their homes at night. Barbados is a nice place but you need to be just as careful as anywhere else. Tourist that were victim of crimes have been silenced in the past by government this is a fact. I would even go as far as to say that Barbados is more dangerous than any other caribbean country because people are completely unaware of the levels of crime Where as other Caribbean nations do not hide these statistics so people and more cautious.

      Listen taxes here in America too. My income tax at 28%, property and school tax on my house over $ 8000 a year, car and house insurance over $2200 a year. If you have kids under 6 daycare school over $11000 a year. If you have a family, health insurance over $700 a month. Please do the math. I am in Albany NY so the outskirts and things are a little "cheaper" please don't be fooled. Imagine owning a house (with mortgage) here, having pension and 401k, 2 houses in Ja (with mortgages) and land and still feel stuck in the rat race lol.... but I am very thankful I didn't waste my time, came to USA 99 and making progress.

    Let me say this migration is not for everyone. And this is my personal opinion. Don't migrate unless you have a plan or a goal. If you have a job in Jamaica, don't quit your job. In my case, I took 6 months' leave initially. This is for men in your mid-30s or in your 40s and establish think twice before you migrate. For men it can be tough. Starting over from the bottom and taking orders from younger people or if you can't find a job in time. I've seen family break up when reality kicks in. Before you come make sure you have spending money for 6 months to a year. The family members who urged to come I guarantee you your invitation will not last beyond one week. Before the complaints about food finishing, tissue done, the bad face and grumbling. Last but not least your children. Where possible let your kids complete their school in Jamaica. And then come and attend university in Canada. Unless you are willing to find the time to go into the school to advocate for your child. Coming from a third world country the perception is you are not able to perform. The want to place your kid in remedial class and trade school. To beat your depression and loniness find a church group and join the Jamaican and Canadian Association.

    @JamCan knowing that Jamaica has a shortage of teachers and nurses, why are you encouraging such professionals to migrate to Canada? Have you ever wondered why more native Canadians are not entering those professions, so that their country wouldn’t need to poach from countries like Ja, which contributes to instability in Ja.
    Do you encourage Rwandan teachers and nurses to migrate to Canada?

    • @JamCan6322
      @JamCan6322  7 днів тому

      @faithm2535 Oh buoy Faith a pick pan me. Yes, I shouldn't encourage the migration of our professionals. But is the government making the society safe for them and paying them reasonably so they can live a comfortable life? Since independence, has Jamaica made any tangible progress in investing in its human capital, discipline it's population and lower crime? El Salvador did it in 4 years. Therefore, I don't want them to leave, but everybody haffi gnam food. As it relates to Rwanda, their cost of living in lower, and food makes up 25% of its GDP. Rwanda has an 8% GDP growth rate for the past 8 years, so they need their professionals. What's Jamaica's GDP growth in th same comparative time frame?

      @@JamCan6322 notice how you conveniently ignored the most important question I asked … regarding why more native Canadians are not filling their own vacancies for teachers and nurses, so I will help … the answer is that just like Ja, Canada and the other 1st world countries are also NOT paying those professionals the wages they want or deserve. In fact, when you control for debt service obligations, the amount that each country spends on education and healthcare, as a percent of GDp, is not that different. As a percent of GDP…
      Ja combined health and education is 10.77 and debt service is 5.79.
      Canada’s combined health and edu is 16.54 and 1.8 for debt Svc (so approx 5 percent less in debt Svc than Ja)

    • @faithm2535
      @faithm2535 7 днів тому

      @@JamCan6322 I’m sure you are aware of the historical impact of debt service/loan repayment on the budget/GDP of Ja… so, if you were to reduce Ja’s debt service to the same as Canada, and allow Jamaica to allocate the difference to their health and education, the difference being invested in those sectors is not radically different.
      Unlike Canada, Jamaica doesn’t have a readily available constant supply of well trained and experienced English speaking professionals that they can poach from other poorer countries, in order to fill vacancies left by their own underpaid native workers. Imagine if all the teachers from Haiti and some parts of poor Africa spoke perfect English and would be available to come ‘gnam a food’ in Jamaica, at probably even less than Ja’s workers are being paid.
      The nature of the human animal is universal … there are no hero countries, just several who are still benefiting from the enslavement legacies that still afflict former colonies.
      El Salvador does not have the same location constraints that leaves it constantly vulnerable to being used in the political and economic proxy warfare waged by external superpowers who benefit greatly when Jamaica is dysfunctional. Rwanda’s success was made possible for price in human casualty that no other nation on earth would be willing to pay.

      @faithm2535 Hmmm! I beg to differ, th3 teaching profession is Canada is controlled by White females and the teaches pension is one of the biggest invest fund. The nursing profession is definitely poaching. However, the birth rate is 1.3 per family, and many Canadians don't see nursing as an option. However, they are well paying professions.

    • @faithm2535
      @faithm2535 6 днів тому

      @ Teaching SHOULD be the highest paying in the nation, but this world is still controlled by patriarchy, so if males wanted to control the teaching profession, they would. In the US, education is funded by combo of federal and local/property taxes, so the areas that have a wealthy tax base can afford to pay teachers well enough for them to do that work, but low tax base rural and ghetto areas have vacancies that native workers refuse work. You would know if Canada is different.

However, when you have "globalization", WTO and Neoliberalism that create a "even playing field" as it relates to goods and tariffs, how can the small nations compete with Big Agri in North America? How can they compete when they are forced to devale their currencies? So yes, the farmers need to stay in the island, but how much will they make off thir produce when the big boys are importing it and selling it at a cheaper price?
