    Great Education! Great Video! Thank you.

    That is tedious Justin. You have to be so deliberate and gentle. That tip on that tool, I don’t know this so I guess I’ll read the description. This is all new to me. You have to develop a mindset doing this. It would take me awhile to learn this, so I think a practice piece or pieces may be in order here. Good video Justin!👍🏻

    Do you have a video showing how you removed the (underfilled) chip in the first place?
    How do you know when it's time to lift it up if you can't tap it to make sure it's reflowed?

    I agree everything you say. I have destroyed 30 already broken motherboards to learn this. Zero pressure is a must. Besides any dissolving liquids doesn't work for me, ho hot air is the best and safest solution.

    Justin, do the world a favor. Write a book or make some sort of moicrosoldering learning DVDs. Your videos are great. They are unique and they address real world problems. But i wish there was some sort of structure in it like - this is chapter one and we are going to study the electrical system in the iphones - Vcc main!- where does it begin? What components are on this line etc. im sure many beginners like me hear a lot of this word but have no clue what it is and how to use it to our advantage.
    If you ever make any sort of paid educational materials, ill be the first to buy.

    Why do you underfill ?

  • @jayseeee
    @jayseeee 6 років тому

    Hi Justin, after having removed the underfill and replaced the component: do you fix the component with new "glue"? The was a reason that this underfill was there. Probably to make the comonent more resistant to vibrations? In case of a yes: what material are you using to fix the component?

    • @TheArtofRepair
      @TheArtofRepair  6 років тому

      No, generally I dont because I want to keep repair-ability, BUT if I did, I would probably just do a quick UV coating on the corners to keep it stable.

    what temp are you using for the underfill removal please. thanks for your vids

      This really depends on the type used on the board you have, I recommend starting around 140C and working up 10c at a time till it comes off super easy, being sure to watch out around the 180C mark since solderings going to start melting soon after. I appreciate the view and comment, hope to see you in the comments again in the future!

      Watch Episode 14 | ua-cam.com/users/edit?o=U&video_id=lHPa1hOty4k It gives an overview on how to determine the correct temperature.

    is there any solution to fix broken pads? coz when i tried to remove the nand ic from my ipad air mb i did it wrong way and i pulled all pads from the board!!

    • @TheArtofRepair
      @TheArtofRepair  7 років тому +1

      It just depends on the pads pulled, if you can run jumpers from the next component in the line back to the pad, you will be fine. But as there becomes more jumpers, it can become more difficult based on the next traces location. The real issue here that needs to be addressed is the fact that pads were pulled. I would suggest trying to practice a bit more before doing nand for clients based on your initial issue.

      @electronicwarp813 7 років тому +1

      Yeah, I agree.. I also get super uncomfortable, when I see the super heaters just scratching the boards like it's a frozen windshield during winter...
      Anyways.. It is correct that you can do jumpers / wires and use solder mask / UV light etc to repair traces.. But that is mainly for DC, under 100 KHz boost converter lines etc.
      You will get issues if you do that on the 8bit / JESD204B lines (100 MHz) for PCIE / 32 / 64 bit NAND.. The traces is differential (PCIE), and length matched.
      Also a lot of PCB design rules for high speed busses, can also have signal, gnd, signal, gnd, etc.. to shield the signal, and keep a high signal integrity.
      All this shit is done, to avoid noise, cross-talk, jitter, skew and in some situations EMI.
      So yeah.. go ahead.. use 0,02mm copper wire randomly, because you saw some indian lifehacker on youtube fixing his phone with wire from a old CRT flyback transformer, his moms hair dryer, and a flea circus..

    Hey , any suggestions on 5s red screen problem?

    • @TheArtofRepair
      @TheArtofRepair  8 років тому

      What all have you done up to this point to diagnose the issue? Whats the device history? Do you have the proper tools to possibly move forward on a board repair?

      The phone was brought for battery replacement, but after 4 days the got it back saying it didn't turn on... but i think it took a hit because when i opened it up the flex of the battery was cut.. I replaced with new one.. boots till apple logo then screen turns red.. they said it could be proximity sensor flex with camera but already tried ... i have heat gun, soldering iron, microscope.. can I have your email adress?

    • @TheArtofRepair
      @TheArtofRepair  8 років тому

      Try and work backward from the prox itself. Im a little concerned that the flex was cut on the battery. Are you sure it wasn't accidentally damaged during install or prior to install? I can help you with this, but I cannot do a full diagnosis on this for you. Thats part of the learning process. I would suggest making a reddit account and making a post about the issue in /r/mobilerepair. This way the entire community can come together and try to help you. my username is /u/thephonegod on reddit

    Couldn't you just use acetone? It dissolves adhesive.

      Acetone will not eat through most of these types of compounds unfortunately. :(

    You scrapped alot of the insulation layer doing this, you should have pre-heated the NAND right before trying this, really softens the glue and makes it easier to be separated from the insulation layer.

      You can get an inspection scope for like 150ish used. or like 200 new. If you need help finding one, just let me know. =)
