In Season 2 of Penny Dreadful, Vanessa Ives (Eva Green) and her allies find themselves locked in an epic battle against an unholy evil; Sir Malcolm (Timothy Dalton) falls under the spell of a bewitching temptress; Ethan's (Josh Hartnett) big secret becomes known as his past comes back to haunt him; Dr. Frankenstein's (Harry Treadaway) newest creation breaks hearts and then some; Dorian Gray (Reeve Carney) falls for an unlikely woman.

It's like they made this show especially for me. I dare say this is one of the best ever screen depictions of Frankenstein AND Dorian Gray.

This is, in my opinion, the best season of Penny Dreadful! Not only that we had a more wholesome storyline, but we got to see the Grandage Place team at its finest camaraderie. Most of all, I love how we got to see many sides of Vanessa's character - her humanity, flaws, fears, dreams, kindness and strength - making this season the peak of her glories.
Caliban dancing with Vanessa? Madame Kali in a Elizabeth Báthory reference? Brona emerging from the water? That mysterious masked man? This season will be bloody amazing and I cannot wait for the demimonde! (I love that version of The Unquiet Grave)
So glad someone else saw the Elizabeth Bathory reference though I'm not surprised due to your username. So excited to see the dark twists and turns this season. I'm also very interested in seeing Caliban/Vanessa interactions. It seems that it will even better than season 1 which seems impossible! :)

Amazing series. I haven't been blown away by a tv series in years! Every thing about this show is glorious. Too in awe for words.

I agree Cowboy1Brian. I just re-watched the entire first season on demand. It's truly the best written and acted series I've ever seen. The production values are incredible. The whole thing just comes together like no other series I can think of.

Please let them make a recording of her singing the entire song! She's brilliant at turning it into such a beautifully haunting tune. I've been watching the trailer just for the song for hours now. No other recording of the song I can enjoy. Keeping hopes up for a full recording by the time a soundtrack arrives or a special.

This all looks so awesome, making its debut two weeks sooner than last year! Great version of The Unquiet Grave being sung and a stunning collage of visual mastery. John Logan, the entire crew, and the extraordinary cast deliver on the promise of first season and then some. No sophomore slump for this show. IT IS GONNA ROCK!!!!!

So is Madam Kali possibly Countess Bathory? The bathing in blood seems to imply that. However, ancient Egyptians were also know to bath in blood. Is it possible that evil that was trying to possess Vanessa found a new host, or another Egyptian god has entered the game? Remember Madam Kali acted so terrified during the seance? In the later scene towards the end of season one she seems quite a bit more predatory.
Yes and there is also an un publicized deleted scene with Madame Kali that might further support that point though I can't say for sure since I haven't seen it.
aye, could be but the music was sorta Scottish/Irish and lots of witches are Scottish coz we burned lots of them :(, mmm such fun to guess but then they say the Scots and Irish came from the Egyptian Scota hence why we have whisky, oo oo oo

Jonathan Bonilla I think so. She's famous for bathing in blood and it actually sounds like she's singing about it, too. I think they're making her immortal the way she thought virgin blood would make her.
I'm proud to say I was one of the few it seemed who were dedicated to watching them when they were barely getting 100 views on youtube.. The show is incredible and so new to the classic horror stories... love it

This season is delivering so MUCH more than what is shown in the trailer! It is unbelievable! I say that because sometimes the trailer is so good, and the movie/series is not as good as the trailer. But this is not the case, it is full with surprises, one better than the other. Keep up keeping up guys! It's been amazing :) Greeting from Brazil.

The song she sings in this trailer is a hybrid. It uses the melody of an Irish folk song called Star of the County Down, and the lyrics from an English folk song called The Unquiet Grave.
this was my fav season of Penny Dreadful, and that year....when everything was possible!
i loved the first season but this looks even better and looks darker!! and darker!! And this season is really gonna show the monsters they are all becoming which I cant wait to see!! Cant wait for April!!

Some of the best dialogues at season one came from Caliban. It seems he will gonne get more screening in next season. What about Jekill/Hyde or Jack the Ripper appearances?

Someone on Tumblr reminded me that this song, The Unquiet Grave, has been used in Penny Dreadful before ... during the Séance scene when Peter/Vanessa sings a bit of it when talking about dying in Africa.

Can't wait for the next season. I'm so deeply in love with this show... If I'd have to chose one show over all, I'd certainly take Penny Dreadful. I've never watched anything with such passion and pleasure. This powerful visual language, haunting dialogues, every single character. Those actors. I can't even begin to rave over those actors. Eva Green makes this a masterpiece. If I was a billionaire I'd sponsor 5 new seasons. I hope this will last. I really, really do.

I find the christian mythology behind the fall of Lucifer somewhat intriguing. I love how Penny Dreadful extrapolates both the Christian mythology of Lucifer and assorted supernatural creatures. Being Muslim myself, the standard belief of my religion asserts that Satan wasn't an angel but apart of a unique race opposite humanity called Djinns. Djinns are similar to humanity in that they possess free will. However, they are naturally malicious beings, whereas humans are generally good. Djinns existed eons before humanity. Satan, or otherwise known as Iblis in islam, used to be in the company angels. Nevertheless, I would like to stress he wasn't one of them. Back then, he was pious and obediently loyal to Allah(God). When Adam was created, God told everyone including the angels and Satan to bow in respect, not worship to Adam. But Satan decided that he was better than Adam, so he didn't bow to him. Eventually, he was cast out. But that's our side of the religious spectrum, us muslims.

God... I like this show but I have to admit I really like Eva Green. I've really only ever saw her work in 300: Rise Of An Empire and she stuck with me in the back of my mind. Now I'm glad I get to see her work again, it's amazing, definantly one of my favorite actors!!! 🙂
