    My newest smoky/grunge palette is Sorcerous Smoke from Unearthly Cosmetics. It’s got some greens, so it’s perfect for me! I’m on a No Buy, but it was a pre-order, so I bought it before that.😅

    ND has me in a stranglehold. I am warm too but will get Xenon for Xmas. I got Nude and it is currently my favourite palette tied with Gold. Think of the palette you could build for gigs ❤ Luckily I genuinely want just every other palette ND puts out.
    I think the Danessa Myricks for sure. It has removable pans! And get it sooner rather than later 🤩

    • @TheStyleStumbler
      @TheStyleStumbler  11 місяців тому +2

      THAT is exactly it: I think of all the AMAZING possibilities for gigs, vacations, work trips... and then I just want every single one of those beautiful ND palettes. I am sure I would use a lot of those Xenon shades in custom palettes, but I think I'm going to try to get by without it. (She says as her makeup monster sobs... 😉 )
      Your vote for Danessa Myricks + sooner rather than later has been duly noted. Thanks for the feedback! ❤

    I’ll be so curious to see how this all plays out! As far as the contour goes, considering you use it for performing as well I’d get the next thing to test before your old one runs out so that you don’t feel like you “have” to use something that doesn’t work for you just because you have it.

    Have you ever tried Lisa eldridge Liquid Lurex eyeshadows? Her dark colors are great for a one and done quick/travel friendly smokey eye. Zora is a nice dark brown. That along with a sparkly topper would make a good travel friendly option. I have hooded eyes and I use them with a eye primer and they last.

      No, I haven't tried her Liquid Lurex Eyeshadows yet, although they have long been on my wishlist. Thanks for the tip, Angela! I'm glad to hear that someone else with hooded eyes has had success with them. That gives me more confidence that they might work for me.

    I'm leaning towards getting a replacement contour only or get the pallet while you have some to compare. I also think those pans can pop out as well so that might help in making a good custom travel grunge pallet instead of buying a new Huda one.
    And feel yah on the fall scents. I had the same thing happen with Tom Fords Soleil de feu. I'm super picky and would never dream of spending that much money on a scent but man, that sucker haunted me lol got a used one off Mercari and it's now my default fall/holiday scent lol

    • @TheStyleStumbler

      That's a great point, Emma. If those pans in the Groundwork palette pop out, that might be a great solution.

    🍎🍏 Advertising/marketing is all designed to push those psychological buttons to activate that Pavlovian response and get you to spend money.
    Let the makeup monster riot for a bit. Stand firm with what you already have and the monster will get tired and go back to the darkness. And I don't know if it's weird, but just from your minimal description, I have a perfect image in my head of what your makeup monster looks like.😂
    Based on your explanation of needed utility and some of the other factors you mentioned, I would give you a nod of approval if you purchased the Pretty Grunge palette. No justification is needed. There has to be some room for flexibility to you Adagio Beauty curation rules for the project to be practical.
    My lived experience, especially growing up, was seemingly always having to get by with good enough. An an adult, I've learned it's worth it to spend and get exactly what you want and what suits for the given purpose.
    You are strong. Hold your ground and don't give in to the makeup monster. If you need help fending her off, I'm here for you.
    Boozy, gooey, apple pie sounds really good. Soothing and delicious.
    What you mentioned about marketing is exactly why so many people fall to impulse buys. The desire is justified because it's a psychological response, but the over purchasing is the issue. I've found that if the hype and noise can be gotten away from, it's easier to judge if my desire for something is actually created inside myself or if it's a trick from the outside. I've gone so far as to wander around stores for a couple of hours with a potential impulse buy in my hands or cart to consider the purchase. More often than not I will put the thing back because I've convinced myself I don't really need it. I've also had things on online merchant wish lists for so long they've been automatically removed due to being discontinued. Granted, my circumstances have forced me to shift my purchasing habits and a lot of my wants have fallen away. The wants i do still have are seemingly unattainable at the moment, which leads to being smacked in the face by the FOMO monster, but c'est la vie.
    The thing I've noticed from this video and your previous one on the holiday releases is that you seem to be really cued in to what you already have in your collection because of your Adagio Beauty curation. The consideration you've given to what you have and how it can be used on place of the tempting shiny newness and being able to calmly and logically talk yourself to of the purchase is a great measure of how well you're doing with the project. I'm sure it seems at times that the curation is only paring down your collection, but it is also knowing what you have and how to most effectively use it.
    Its a version of the quality vs. quantity argument and, since strict minimalism is boring and overrated, it's better to have a few more things but truly understand them. Like Mr. Miyagi said, first learn balance. And as you gain experience with your collection, the less and less likely you'll be to fall victim to The Hype of new releases. When you do make a purchase of something new, it'll be the right thing with minimal or no buyer's remorse. And the the makeup monster will be Hobbesian (Calvin, not Thomas) companion to share in your joy and excitement.

    • @TheStyleStumbler
      @TheStyleStumbler  11 місяців тому +1

      The makeup monster is constantly rioting over one thing or another. I'm not sure it would even know how to find a dark corner if it tried. Luckily it's cute. 😂
      You're so right. Although making do with what we already have is generally a great philosophy, when we have the means, sometimes it really is worth it to go out and get exactly what we want. After several attempts trying to streamline my smokey eye travel kit, I think it might be worth it to try the new palette.
      Thanks for offering your help fending off the makeup monster! I might just take you up on that offer.
      Yes. Boozy, gooey apple pie is really soothing and delicious. Luckily that scent really lingers. I'll have to go into town and spray one of my sweaters with Angels' Share next chance I get so I can be a walking apple pie for a few days. 😂
      I DO THE SAME THING!!! I so often wander around a store holding onto an item, trying to truly weigh its value, just to put it back. And my ten-mile long wishlist (a good portion of which is also saved at various online shops) also has a good deal of obsolete, now discontinued items on it.
      Thanks so much for the feedback about the Adagio Beauty curation! It's great to get an external perspective. I think you're right: focusing so much on curating and enjoying what I have has really helped me put new items into perspective.
      And your point about having a little bit of excess, but truly understanding and using that excess is well taken. Balance is the hardest part for me. But I think I'm getting there slowly. And I look forward to having a Hobbes to my Calvin in my makeup monster. ;-)
      As always, it's lovely to hear from you Zach. Thanks for always taking the time for such thoughtful feedback!

      @TheStyleStumbler I'm glad you enjoy and can find some use in my philosophizing. As I was typing my initial comments, I felt as if I was missing something with leather elbow patches and a pipe. 🤣

      As I've said before, I enjoy your videos, and I'm always happy to provide an outside perspective. My constant hope is that I can provide some useful insights that keep your mental hamster happily running on her wheel. 😊

    What do you consider a "large" eyeshadow palette ? I think the "large eyeshadow palette bought this summer "is the PMG one (am I mistaken ?), and it's a 10 pans palette which I don't consider a large palette. It just has large packaging 😂 the I need a nude on the other is what I consider as "large".
    To be honest, I don't think the DM palette is a good option, because maybe one shade is going to work as contour but the rest are not and as eyeshadow I'm sure you already have these shades already. Which product is your fav contour cream btw ?
    Ouch, Blanche Bête is 250€ here in France... 💸

    • @TheStyleStumbler
      @TheStyleStumbler  11 місяців тому +1

      That's a good point. I think I consider any palette with 10 or more shadows a "large" eyeshadow palette. And you're right: the PMG one is the large one I bought this summer. (I also consider those Motherships large because that packaging is HEFTY 😂.) So I also consider the "I Need a Nude" palette to be a large one.
      And yet another good point: it would probably be "smarter" within the context of my curation to simply purchase an individual contour product instead of a whole palette. My current favorite is from Kevyn Aucoin.

    This was so much fun to watch as are all of your videos, but was also very helpful and timely! Hearing you calmly face down your makeup monster has helped me do the same with mine today! 🍎
    It sounds to me like the Huda Pretty Grunge would really fit a need for you for smoky eyes on the road. I do think it would make sense to get that now. I would tend to go for a single contour. It seems like it would be the most portable and more of a sure thing than the new DM Groundworks. From what I’ve seen, people either love that palette or hate it. That makes me trepidatious.

    • @TheStyleStumbler
      @TheStyleStumbler  10 місяців тому +1

      I think you're right. After trying to create an easy-to-pack smokey eye with what I already have for the past couple of weeks, I think the easiest packable solution would be the Huda palette. That will definitely get purchased before my next gig.
      I'm also a little nervous about the DM Groundwork palette. I'm going to look into individual contours for now and see what I can find.

    I may be commenting too late here but I have some qualms about the DM palette as your contour replacement. Is there a way to see and swatch it in person? I feel like I’ve fallen into that trap before of wanting something and trying to justify uses of it that are basically hopeful guesses. Oh I feel you on being in a pre-mourning period with Sultry... I recently depotted mine to force myself to stop using some of the mattes and shimmers that clearly had changed and no longer worked the same. Most of the shadows are still okay but I'm just waiting for them to turn as well, I feel like I'm watching a friend with a zombie bite 😢
    It does sound like you may have space for a replacement! Personally I got the ND Glam palette for that purpose, but I can see where the Pretty Grunge palette would be better suited to the job (plus, new shiny release haha). I'm forever annoyed that approximately a month after I finally bought the Glam, ND annouced/leaked I Need A Nude which is an even better fit for my tastes. Oh well!

    • @TheStyleStumbler
      @TheStyleStumbler  11 місяців тому

      The shiny shades from Sultry just aren't as shiny anymore... or at least not as shiny as they were in my memory. And it's getting increasingly harder to get a smooth blend on the mattes. I have a feeling you're right: I am in need of a replacement. Perhaps I'll have to view the Huda Beauty palette as Sultry's replacement.
      How frustrating that "I Need a Nude" came out just after you purchased the Glam palette!

    follow up for groundwork: are face palettes something you regularly reach for or have reached for in the past? if so maybe it could be a good replacement! if not you may just want to go single pan. the putty formula could also be a big question mark compared to a more reliable traditional cream.
    hard to resist the makeup monster when it is so cute and just enabling you to have more pretty shiny things 😵‍💫 but resist we must!

      Thanks for such a helpful question! I do use face palettes a lot, especially when traveling. Plus it looks like the pans come out of the Groundwork palette, which means I could also take select shades with me if I need to pare things down. You're right though: the putty formula is a big question mark. Maybe I'll just go single pan to cut down on the risk. Luckily I still have time to decide.
      Yes! We can resist that makeup monster!

    This was really helpful in framing some logical processes for stepping away from BF purchases. Thank you!

      I'm glad I was able to help with the BF craziness. It really is especially nuts this year!

    The grunge palette looks so good! It's not on my wishlist right now because I'm loving bright colors.

      Yeah, it's definitely not a palette for people who are enthusiastic about color. Luckily there are so many great colorful options to choose from, too!

    Also love, the Danessa Myricks is def not the same as the Patrick ta. Although I love the Patrick ta, the new ground works pallet is truly innovative. Two formulas per shade. truly innovative and like nothing else on the market.

      I agree - I was oversimplifying it when I said they were the same thing. Two formulas per shade is definitely a whole lot of added value, and I am so curious about those colors and textures.

      I was a little intimidated due to its seemingly artist nature. However, I was surprised how user friendly it is for my novice makeup abilities.@@TheStyleStumbler

    I think that Danessa Myricks palette has too small pan size to put your brush in especially bigger ones! The powder pan size is for eyeshadow brush so I would suggest you to buy separate contour product. I love your videos and they help me to restrain my makeup monster 😀

    • @TheStyleStumbler
      @TheStyleStumbler  11 місяців тому +1

      That's a great point, Nina. If the pans are too small for a big brush that could get annoying pretty quickly. And I also wonder if the powder would infiltrate those creams...
      I'm so glad these videos can help us both restrain our makeup monsters! 😊

    You are helping me so much to analyze my own wishlist. I have things that have been there for almost a year now but that fact kind of gives me peace. But you also make me add things like fragrance that i never cared about before🍏🍎🍏

      @@TheStyleStumbler every couple of weeks/month i go back to my wishlist and i delete the stuff i have forgotten about. Thanks to you i got to take off a couple of extra things that were there that i could dupe with my own stuff! But i did add the fragrances so i remember to check them out next time im in civilization (i live far away from the city or anywhere with shops besides pharmacies 😭)

      @mery_vc That‘s probably something so should do - I don‘t clean out my wishlist much. But that might be helpful! 😂
      If you get to try that fragrance at some point you‘ll have to let me know what you think. Fragrances can smell wildly different on different people.

    I think waiting 24 hours is usually a great way to avoid impulse buys. I find if I still want something months later it’s generally something I’ll enjoy in the long run

      You're so right - if the desire can survive for months, that's generally a good sign it's something that will be useful. It's great to see you here, Colin! 💛
