I think Chase has his funny moments. This interview was an excellent example of Chase at his best. I also think there are FAR TOO MANY STORIES from reasonable people that show what a jerk Chase can be on occasion. He was banned FOR GOOD from SNL for a reason! That said, I think Chase was funny on his run on SNL and excellent in the movies I've seen him in.
@@danwroy I think alot of co-actors couldnt handle the fact that he was talented, funny and very good looking at the same time. Usually comedians are a bit dorky, he wasnt..he was cool.
There are moments in Vacation that are so funny I would forgive Chevy for almost anything real or imagined. That noise he makes while exiting the car just after finding out Aunt Edna is dead is one of many.
@1RonBurgundy1 I agree. I watched his movie. He is those comedic. You have to get the mood for bill movies has this weird arc-like 80% bill be this prick cool guy, then at the end, he changes to be this sweet guy. My favorite film is striped and groundhog. I loved those just due to them being comic classics. Chevy characters don't play that shit. He's just his character, Steve martin. I liked his old stuff. I am personally a fan of Eddie Murphy, David spade, Chris Farley; the thing about comedians is as they age, it's hard to be superstars even. Even if they do, it doesn't last long
Wow so great to hear him sounding happy and willing to share. There is one moment that made me laugh that shouldn’t have. He says some famous little person is dead. The non-Gilbert host says the little person is alive. I think Mr. Chase says he’s dead, then there’s a pause. I interpreted this as Mr. Chase was irritated by the co-host for interjecting some uneccesssry correction. The co host does this often in these shows. I have autism and I think, like Billy West, this co host does as well. He’s often times (in my opinion) more focused on correcting facts than reading what room. I do the exact same behavior. Anyways, what a fantastic episode.
The Three Amigos? I have to think that Gilbert knows that true story because it is infamous. Sam Kinnison was originally the bandit leader and his performance was so powerful that Chevy Chase thought that he would be upstaged by Kinnison in every one of their scenes, but Chase was also a producer on the film and he demanded that Kinnison be recast. Sam Kinnison's brother wrote about this in his book BROTHER SAM and he hates Chevy Chase for that.
@@brucesmith1544 Yeah, he was never up to play El Guapo but he played a crazy mountain man who shows up two or three times trying to kill the Amigos and he keeps getting injured each time. Unfortunately, Landis said the footage is lost.
Since this is The Amazing Colossal Podcast, and since Gilbert loves old horror/sci-fi/monster movies so much, has there been an episode where he discussed The Amazing Colossal Man & The Amazing Colossal Beast movies?
Know I’m hella late but he’s speaks on it briefly on this podcast he did call bill bert podcast I think, with Bill Burr an another comedian Bill. It’s here on UA-cam.
U can tell Chevy it's still sensitive over Johnny Carson's not being able to ad lib a fart remark. He acts like he never heard it before yet I've heard it a million times. 🤤
The notion that Cousin Eddie is hitting Clark up for money for real is funny, but that was a pretty shitty thing for Chevy to announce to the world that Randy Quaid asked to borrow money and Chevy thinks it's pathetic.
I'm amazed Chase got along well with Gilbert. Either A) he feels unthreatened by Gilbert B) he genuinely feels Gilbert's funny C) sympatico on some level with Gil seeing both have been through SNL and had unpleasant moments in their careers on SNL and outside the damned show. D) NONE of the shows either of them did are being rerun now! Lorne seems to limit repeats of SNL mostly to the last 10 unfunny years of SNL. Who knows? I had the distinct feeling he had a good time doing this show!
@@GHOSTbirdnatureLOVER Well, at any rate, it seems like Chevy got along with Gilbert. Those 2 (Chase and Gottfried) had a tendency of annoying people. I just shut them off and move on when the situation isn't funny. They can't always be funny and sometimes the less pleasant aspects of personalities come out. Chase may be an occasional jerk but I still like the first 3 Vacation films and his SNL work. There were bits Gilbert did I didn't think were funny and were mean-spirited. He tended to go off and drag things on with people he didn't like if he didn't shut them out like he did Steve Buscemi on one podcast. You could tell Frank was mortified by the way Gilbert behaved around Buscemi. There was also the incident of Gilbert just ragging on Paul Reubens constantly after "Pee-Wee Gate" in the early 1990s. Eh, I enjoyed both Pee-Wee and Gilbert on their own merits.

What? Chevy is a funny and talented guy. He's made a lot of bad choices, but in the right part, he's a legend. Vacation? Fletch? There's things that only he can do that are hilarious. And he's a great musician. He's Chevy Chase... and you're not. Deal with it.
What a wonderful human friendly side of Chevy Chase this shows that we don’t often see
Excellent. Chevy got so me good laughs even.
What a great episode. Chevy is a comedy legend.
I love this show.

Chevy definitely was annoyed by the co-host.
Another Vacaction movie. From Switzerland? I'm in. Listen to Chevy Chase talking about a co-star. He seems so humble. I adore this podcast.
