@@TheWaterSwattershey brother you think the bear pistol bow you have would smoke a duck got these Muscovy ducks in the pond by me and was gunna buy one
Might sound a little crazy, but at the range for pistol crossbows I shoot without any sights, instinctive just like I do my trad recurves and longbows. Over a decade ago I was able to pick up a real basic regular crossbow at a pawn store for 20 bucks but it had no sights, but figured I'd try it for short range (especially bowfishing) without, since I'd been doing trad bowhunting a long time. With a little practice, and keeping within 20 yards, worked great. Started doing it not long after for pistol crossbows for the same purposes as here: making my own longer bolts and being able to put broadheads on them.
A little bit of a tangent here too, but for the pistol crossbows I *love* those Cold Steel Cheap Shot broadheads. Saving a ton of money and they work fine. :)
Been doing this with carbon arrows instead of bolts and instead of a actual cross bow knock I just put carbon arrow tip insert in the front and back of the diy bolt gets that thiner diameter moving pretty quick I wonder if the thinner diameter makes much of a difference other than speed which would be better for penetration and I think Id want a sharp COC 2 blade for pigs for aiding penetration awesome video by the way i love watching your videos
In my experience, the aluminum bolts that comes with those crossbows, are really precise, as they are a little heavier than the more thinner ones usually with broadheads, BUT aluminum bolts do get bent out of shape pretty easily, and so I start to experiment with other materials, and in my tests, the PVC bolts are way more resistant, when they hit a moderately hard target, they will spring back to approximately their initial shape many many times, and as they are light they are really really fast and will hit hard. Those big ones made out of big arrows are way too heavy, at a short distance and for soft target they will work thought.
Thanks, good video. Please make a video on building arrows for the Striker and Ballista. Showing how to change inserts and fletching on the Ballista stinger bolts would be great.

I'm not sure which one you're talking about. These in this video were crossbow bolts, somewhere around 8mm outside diameter. I made a red fletched arrow to deer hunt with for the Striker. It was 5.95mm and 14 inches long. Like the kit arrows.
I just use metal sling shot fishing arrows for these 80lb bows...unmodified. You can find'em cheap on Amazon. People complain about them scratching the bow rail up...and they do...but I've shot hundreds of shots with'em out of this bow and it's still hammering on! Don't try it with a Striker or Bat. I broke a string trying it.
Another great video brother! Sadly for me (not actually) ive installed a 7 bolt mag on my modified 80 pound hand crossbow. Its double bladed bolts for me or bust! XD
@williamjarvis3473 yeah at the time this video was made, I couldn't find any plastic vanes that were long enough to stableize the bolt but narrow enough to fit between the sights.
If I had to make them I would take two of those veins off of that the biggest veins off of that broadhead you're putting on there cuz it's way too heavy the tip alone is probably 125 grain
Would you try this on deer at 20 yards maybe 15 at the least? Looks like it'll do the job with those arrows you put together. Im looking to get one for 2024 season,a full size crossbow probably would work better but i like the compact size you can fit in a backpack and hop on a mountain bike through the forest.
I wouldn't try it on a deer, it would for sure work on a fox. I'd check your regs. This bow doesn't meet the minimum requirements to deer hunt where I'm at.
I checked my state regulations and saw it must have 125 lb for crossbow .I really like that reverce crossbow you shoot with, how many pounds is that one?
It's not so much that is difficult to make your own bolts because it's not. The difficulty is having the right supplies. feather fletching for example. But the bigger issue I've run into with the mini striker specifically is matching the bolt diameter of the stock bolts(micro diameter) and trying to find the right accessories for that diameter. Some list inner diameter, some list only the outer diameter so your left guessing what insert will work with what diameter bolt.... It's one big crapshoot

I've noticed that a pistol crossbow has such limited range that shooting a fletchless arrow, you get very reasonable accuracy . at the effective range you're describing, sub 15 yards, I'd be willing to bet green money you won't notice a difference in performance!ance on a shaft with zero fetch vs one with two vanes.
I'd probably have to take that bet if we were shooting broadheads. I've shot them without fletchings, with short fletching, plastic fletchings, feather fletchings and a few things in-between. There is a noticeable difference. With a perfectly tuned bow maybe but not with these little bows......there's a difference.
